General Info

Established in 1982, Luther Unit is a part of the Correctional Institutions Division. The unit maintains a work force of more than 330 employees. Luther Unit has a capacity to house up to 1,100 offenders. The unit offers medical, dental and mental health care services, as well as features an over 10-bed infirmary. Luther Unit offers substance abuse, adult and special education programs. It is spread over an area of nearly 7,000 acres. The unit offers various career and technology programs in the areas of welding, landscape design, construction and maintenance. The Correctional Institutions Division is governed by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice.
