I had to wait 3 weeks for special molding and trim to arrive. The first tech had 30 years of experience but, I received another installer on their second visit.
The car was a red 1985 300zx 5 speed that I have owned for 20 years. This car has also been garaged and in very good shape .
The original Nissan windshield cracked on the passenger side and had to be replaced. I watched the entire installation in my drive-way.
After the original windshield was removed the tech found a 2 inch area with minor rust. This area was still solid and could have been fixed easily with some minor sanding and a rust sealant. In fact he should have primed all of the windshield frame.
The Safelite tech applied a black liquid to this small area of rust and reluctantly installed their new Windshield, molding and chrome trim. He preferred me to take the 300zx drive it illegally" with no front glass and a storm only minutes away to a body shop 10 miles away.
After the installation he stated " that the new windshield will have no warranty and most likely will crack in a few days"
The cost was $682.00 and I am totally afraid to drive it out of my garage with this scary windshield issue. My 64 year old wife and I loved this car.
I would have taken the Z-Car to a local body - glass shop and never called Safelite.
