Harvey Smith Construction, Inc. has been recognized as on of the premier custom builders in the greater Baton Rouge area for more than four decades. Harvey Smith Jr., a World War II veteran, began his career in construction in the 1950s by taking on remodeling jobs on a part-time basis while working at a local plant. By 1968, what had begun as part-time endeavor had grown into a flourishing small company, and Harvey left the plant to devote his full attention to the construction business. Daughter Carol and son Tim began their careers in the construction business working alongside their father, and then pursued their own ventures. Carol first worked on her own as a general contractor, and then gained valuable management experience working for Home Depot. Tim took advantage of training he received during his tour of duty in the U.S. Marine Corp, and worked in the computer industry. In the early nineties, as Harvey Smith, Jr. planned for the future of the company, he persuaded Carol and Tim to return to work with him. In 1994, they formed the current residential and commercial construction company as three equal partners. After a 10 year partnership, Harvey Smith, Jr. retired in 2004 at the age of 80. Today, Carol and Tim continue the tradition of excellence started more than 40 years ago.
