- The primary care physicians at Franciscan Physician Network provide personal care for their patients and coordinate other medical care as needed. Your primary care doctor can treat a wide variety of medical conditions and works with you to promote health and wellness through: * Diagnosing and treating common health problems. * Referring and coordinating your medical care with specialists when needed. * Promoting a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention. * Managing your medications. Choosing a primary care physician is an important step toward making sure that you stay on the road to good health. As principal health providers, primary care physicians: * Are board-certified in one or more of the following areas: internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics * Provide preventive care services and promote health and wellness Manage multiple or complex medical conditions * Have access and referral to specialists * Recognize and treat common medical ailments and acute illness An important part of your health care experience at Franciscan St. Francis Health includes building a relationship with your personal physician. The Franciscan Physician Network has more than 45 providers in our primary care departments, including: * Family practice. Family medicine physicians see patients of all ages, from birth to seniors. Family physicians diagnose and treat medical illnesses, provide preventive care such as annual checkups and health risk assessments, and provide guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In addition, they manage chronic conditions and can refer to specialists or coordinate hospital care as needed. * Internal medicine. Internists focus on the prevention and treatment of diseases in adults 18 years of age and older. Internists partner with patients throughout their adult lives to promote health and wellness, provide preventive care services and suggest lifestyle changes that may help to prevent disease. Internists have the skill set necessary to effectively manage medical problems including multiple or complex diseases. * Pediatrics. These physicians see newborns, children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Pediatricians are committed to the physical, mental and social health and well-being of your child. Pediatricians can offer guidance to help prevent illness and injury, monitor development, assist parents in the establishment of healthy lifestyle habits, provide timely care of acute illness, and help manage complex childhood conditions.
