    Great Customer Service

I want to commend the fabulous customer service I received from Charlie at Eastern Refinishing. Not only were the details of the tub, sink and tile explained to me fully, it was worth the phone call just for the entertainment. Charlie was very funny, thoughtful, meticulous, polite and honest about every step of the process. A rare and refeshing experience with contractors. It was such a better way to go than ripping our bathroom completely apart. The technician that did the work was Levi, and has worked with Charlie for many years. A very nice man as well. If there was a customer service award bathroom refinishing, I would vote for Eastern Refinishing. My new bathroom is gorgeous- great selection for colours as well.

    Very Nice

My experience with Eastern Refinishing was a very pleasant one. From the first phone call to inquire about fixing my bathroom up, to the end result, was easy and efficient. The refinishing team of Bob & Dave were polite and professional. The new finish is beyond my expectations, and it saved us a ton of money. "Why replace it, when we can make it look like new". That is what I was told by Danielle, and it is true. She was very helpful. I love it, and so does my husband. I highly recommend them.

    Shiny, Bright, and New!

Eastern Refinishing transformed our old ugly bathtub, sink and bathroom tiles into a shiny, bright and fresh new room in our art school. I could hardly believe it was the same place. Charlie was so helpful on the phone, and knew exactly how much it was going to cost. It was way cheaper than the bathroom renovation we were considering, and will give us at least 10 more years! Tom and Bill did the work, and were efficient, tidy and very professional- I could tell they had refinished a lot of bathtubs! I would recommend them to anyone. The best part was, once I made the decision, it was done within a week, and only took one day.

Eastern Refinishing glazed my bathroom and it has been peeling ever since!

One year ago I called Eastern Refinishing in order to glaze my bathroom. I paid $1,100.00 which included a 5 year written guarantee.

Only one month after the initial job the peeling started. They did come back then to redo the initial spots that were peeling. The peeling has since spread around the room: first the bathtub, then walls. I spoke to a “Charlie” at Eastern Refinishing this week and it wasn’t a pleasant conversation. He said they would charge $150 in order to provide repair.

If you would like any additional information including pictures in order to make your decision, please e-mail me rgcastilho@gmail.com, My hope is to have this company provide the service and quality to me that they advertized and also to alert other consumers of my problem.

    Business Response from charles

I remember Mr. castilo, Mr. Castilo has a 5 year warrantee...not guarantee. Mr. Castilo wanted assurances that there would be no charge to repair the "chips" in his bathtub even before we were allowed to actually see the damage. We showed up to repair his damaged tub and were refused entry into the building. We had allready parked and paid for parking along with the tolls to get there. Mr castilo gave us 0 notice that we would not be admitted into the building unless we filled out 15 pages of paperwork and provided a policy from our insurance company specifically for them. Our insurance company is in california and they don't open until 11:00 a.m. our time so getting this to him was impossible that day. We explained that there would be a charge for wasting the day of 2 of our men and he was told he would have to pay our fees for parking . Mr. Castilo laughed and said "that is your problem". I then explained that we would need to be paid in advance if he wanted us to come back. At this point Mr. Castilo got abusive and threatened us with his "boyfriends" and I ended the conversation.

Charlie is nuts....but in a good way!

I just had my whole bathroom redone by Eastern Refinishing and I can't believe my eyes. It came out just like "Charlie" said it would. The guys were on time (actually early) and were very professional and charlie was the most honest and funny guy you could ask for. He told me what it would cost and what the results would be. I couldn't believe my eyes. Thanks again to Bob, Tom and of course Charlie for making this project easy and enjoyable. These guys are real pros.

    Nasty Man!!

I had my bathtub refinished and was astonished at how beautiful it was!

I had a problem with water getting under some of the paint and then was down to the old paint at one point. I spoke with the sub contractor about fixing it and he was a sweetheart and came back to finish it. I also had a problem with color the second time which was partly my fault__ I trusted my sub contractor so much that I left him and I wasnt there to agree with the color. When I called Charlie, the owner,t Eastern Refinishing he was NASTY,NASTY, YELLING AT ME AND TELLING ME I STOLE FROM HIS BUSINESS BECAUSE I CALLED THE SUB CONTRACTOR TO FINISH THE JOB. IT WAS QUICKER FOR ME TO DO THAT THAT CALL NASTY, NASTY CHARLIE!! He accused me of stealing from him and his company.!!

I had a contract that was paid in full!!!

There was no talking to him__he told me it was too bad that he wasnt going to make the contractor come back.

I have never heard a business man talk to a paying customer that way, let alone someone who would REVIEW HIS WORK! HE EVEN HUNG UP ON ME!!

    Business Response from Charlie

I remember this lady well. She called me up and explained that she and the tech had "made a deal" under the table to do several more bathtubs for her. She was quite proud that she had "cut the company out" and was dealing directly with the tech. This alone got the tech fired for theft. She didn't seem to care that she had robbed the company and cost the tech his job. People like this I have no patience for. When you steal...no matter who from you are a thief...plain and simple. She wanted us to send the tech back out to fix the bathtub that he did "on the side". This burned my britches. I do not and will never tolerate thieves...specially when they brag about doing it...to the owner. Some people are just too stupid to be out on their own. Charlie

    AWFUL Experience

I recently just purchased my first home and wasn't in love with the yellow bath tile and tub that I have, so I called Michelle who couldn't be nicer and set up an appointment.

Due to financial contraints I decided to not go through with the refinishing, with everything going on I forgot to call. On the day of my appointment I receieved a call from Charlie stating his "guys" were in my home and that I was to call him.

I realize I made an appointment and forgot to cancel but his employees entered my house without me being present, the painter was there so the gained entrance that way.

I called Charlie and told him I no longer wanted the service, horrendous things were said. He wished for me that my bathroom was ruined & said he was going to have the guys pour the acid wash on the floor.

About 3 hours after that experience, while at work I see I have a message . Charlie left a message that he was going to manufacter a website, with my picture about the person I am, so when anyone looks me up they'll see that.

Guys a real peach! I know I'm in the wrong I should have remembered to cancel. But with all thats going on & no confirmation call, it slipped my mind. But entering my house without me present, threats and scare tactics, it's just not right.

    I was amazed!

I purchased a very old condo (two years ago) and have been steadily restoring it. The one area I did not have the funds for was the walk- in shower which had ugly brown tile from the 60's. The price of replacing was prohibitive so I thought I would just have to live with it. I ran across an ad for Eastern Refinishing and gave them a call.

Spoke to Kelly (very nice) and Charlie (a real character) and had an appointment within three days.

Got a call from Dave Birmingham the night before the appointment to confirm. Dave arrived early, was pleasant, and completed the job in about three hours. He asked me to take a look and I was absolutely amazed. My dingy dated shower looked like new! I took my first shower in it today and for the first time didn't feel dirty leaving it. Unlike most contractors Dave actually cleaned up and throughly explained the maintenance procedures.

    Highly recommend this company.

    Excellent Work

We recently had our fiberglas tub-shower unit in the Northshore Boston, MA area refinished by Eastern Refinishing.

Manny, our technician, did a great job: prompt, pleasant, and professional. The taping, finishing, and clean up were

    terrific. We are very pleased.

30 yr old one piece fiberglass tub

Discolored and stained, no matter how hard you scrub it still looks crusty. You have 3 choices ....leave it as is or

Destroy your bathroom and rip out the old and replace it with a new one, and then rebuild your bathroom again or...

Call Eastern Refinishing. The entire process took about 5 hrs.

Ellis came in ( was very professional and courteous ) and did his thing.

Explained the warranty and taking proper care of the tub.

Made sure that the customer was 100% satified. When he left the tub was absolutely beautiful ! No mess.

My bathroom that I just repainted and replaced all the fixtures now looks perfect because I have a brand new tub.

    Very Nice experience

I just had my bathtub and all my wall tile refinished and it looks beautiful. Bob Dorr was the rep and he should be highly recommended for his efforts. It took him most of the day but when he was finished it looked like a whole new bathroom. I should have done this years ago. Bob was right on time and actually cleaned up before he left. Highly recommended.

    poor warranty poor company

this company is in business just to get their cut off any job they can sell...they dont have any problems fixed that occurs and actually get away due to the fact their in canada...they dont pay taxes nor do 1099s...they fault their affiliates or the customers for any wrongs never themselves..they use people to do their work they sell and this company has lots of BAD reports at bbb and have been ran out of several states as well as fined lots of money due their fraudulent ways...i suggest anyone interested in having work done look elsewhere.

    Business Response from Charles

This "review" is from our old friend Chris Risner of Coastal Refinishing. He is upset because we took him off our list of affilliates for poor workmanship and unsatisfactory customer service. We are sorry he has brought the public into an internal issue. He says he is "Bipolar" whatever that means. We have an "A" rating with the BBB. Charles Gayler President Eastern Refinishing Inc.

    Extremely poor work and service

I work for a general contractor and we used Eastern for a client for whom we are doing a complete remodel. A bathroom had an expensive tub/shower unit in perfect condition that would have required a fair amount of work to redo and they just wanted a different color. They found this company via an internet search. They were sold the job over the phone and we were asked to coordinate with the "local office" and were given a name and phone number. We were dubious of the process, but Eastern Refinishing assured us it was a long-lasting finish, especially in the application (a guest bath). We then contacted the "local office" and arranged a time for the "painter" to come do the unit. He came with his wife on April 25, 2009, and sprayed the unit. Just as he was finishing, he hit the front of the still-wet unit with a plastic bag, badly smearing the wet "paint." He asked for payment in full, and he was given the check, noting on the invoice the damage and indicating he would return in about a week to redo the front of the tub. They sealed the bathroom and it wasn't opened until a week later when the client and I inspected it. It was a mess - missed areas, runs, etc. It took almost 3 weeks to get someone back. The original painter didn't return - he sent his wife. She said she could not fix it all and that we would have to reschedule with her husband. After another 3 weeks, we finally got them to return and attempt to fix the mess. He made it worse. There are multiple runs, severe "orange peeling," etc. We contacted the "home office" asking them to either refund the client's money or send someone who could do the job right. We were stunned when the owners said that they didn't care about the problems amd this person didn't work for them and that any issues we had we needed to handle with him. They have further informed us that it is their opinion that we cannot pursue them because they are now in Canada. It is now 2 months after the work was first scheduled and it will take another company coming in and completely stripping/sanding the mess off and starting over or completely ripping the bathroom apart and installing a new tub unit. We would suggest that a Google search will lead potential customers to some interesting information. Yellow Pages policies do not allow us to post the links, but a visit to the Ohio Attorney General's website, the consumer protection division, and searching for PIF # 10002062 or "Eastern Refinishing" will produce the actual filings by that agency. A search of the Ohio Secretary of State's records for this corporation will produce more information. Also, to quote the St. Louis Daily Record & St. Louis Countian on Jun 3, 2005, "The Better Business Bureau urges consumers in need of bathtub or tile reglazing to use caution when dealing with Eastern Refinishing" also noting that: " The firm has an unsatisfactory record with this bureau for failure to respond to customer complaints. This firm has an unsatisfactory record with three other BBBs as well. On Feb. 26, 2002, on a court complaint filed by the Ohio Attorney General, an Ohio court ordered (the owner personally) and Eastern Refinishing to refund $10,506.95 to consumers, and the firm was permanently barred from engaging in acts in violation of Ohio law. The court also ordered the defendants to pay $100,000 to the state if they don't comply with the terms of the order." Again, a Google search will produce the full article. We also found via the Internet Archive that the company's website previously claimed that they were founded in 1989 rather than the 1971 claimed in the Yellow Pages. The bottom line is that we would agree with the Better Business Bureau and urge folks to use caution if they are considering dealing with this company.

    100%con and rip off

This company is just that a company who answers the phones to sell jobs at a high percent yet takes no fault nor does anything about repairs needing..all they do is get rid off the (AFFILIATE) blame them and so on..they tell you all the great work and big jobs their affiliates do yet the big jobs such as the cruise ship the spirit where 300 tile floors were done ALL popped up or looked like trash and the main contractor nearly lost his job...but did charlie or his company lose anything? 100% NO because charlie takes his off the top. This company has had affiliates ran out of several states and eastern isnt evev allowed to practice in a few states. Charlie is one terrific salesman but that is all...once anything goes wrong he blames his workers..who by the way do not go to a school nor get trained. I worked for this company over 2 years wiring thousands of dollars of which taxes arent paid nor refunds given and as soon as one of my jobs went a little off he faulted me posted bad reviews and sent awful email to the guy who the job was done for about me...this company knows words and how to sell to get your money which is their ONLY goal..dont be duped...look at all the better business bureaus complaints on them and also watch how fast a bad review is removed from their site so it wont harm them. Well...all i can tell you is to look for a better company and if you dont dont get upset when they tell you go screw yourself as many have been told. Soon i myself will have a site full of negative facts on them and will do all i can to see that they are out of business or somewhere near it cause they are a dishonest bunch and care only for the money. Business Response from Charlie

This so called review comes from Chris risner, the affilliate we had in New Orleans. Yes we fired him, he did a bad job for a customer that was substandard went backto fix it 3 times and the customer stated that they still were not happy. Chris decided to ignore this customer until he called into here to complain because we put he and chris together. When Chris found out he called here and that he was a customer we put him in touch with that is when he decided to go out to the job site again. He was going to just ignore this customer. The customer sent us pictures via email and the job had very large runs. Chris was refusing to go back saying the customer was crazy. Chris sent us an email saying that he was going to have all kinds of people send in bad reviews, just one of the ways the internet gets abused and can spread ugly untruths. We have had a total of 8 complaints from his customers in the last 2 years. We care about our customers and the work they are left to enjoy, we use top of the line products (which Chris refused to change to saying they were to hard to work with). We have many happy customers, employees and affiliates, some have been with us for 10 years or more. We will be sending this review to the abuse center for thier review and hoope it will come down soon. Getting the reviews off this site is not something we do ourselves it is reviewed and judged by yellowpages.com not us. We hope you will understand that this is just ranting of a disgruntled employee. The folowing is a pasted copy of his email From: "coastalresurfacing@att.net" <coastalresurfacing@att.net>View contact detailsTo: "charlie" <tubwizard@yahoo.ca>hope u like your new review...lots of others are ready to post em 2..soon there will be a site just for you and your company and all the wrongs you do your so called affiliates and customers.

WARNING! This company is a complete ripoff

See pictures of the job here:

I work for a GC on the MS Gulf Coast and we used this company to redo a tub unit on a remodel job. This was a purely "color-change" job - the tub was in perfect condition, just a dated color. The first trip, on April 25th, 2009, resulted in Chris, the tech, hitting the just-sprayed surface with a grocery bag. He acknowledged it and stated that he would return in about a week to redo the unit. The bathroom was sealed by his wife/helper, and no one moved the plastic sheeting over the door for 6 days. When the client and I inspected the work, not only was the area where Chris had hit the surface with the bag in obvious need of a redo, but there were several areas of missed coverage and lots of particles in the finish. When he finally arranged to come over, he called at the last minute and said he wasn't coming, but was sending his wife and a helper. They attempted to fix the mess, but made it worse - runs, drips, puddles, etc. and even acknowledged they missed some spots that would need a third trip. When we attempted to schedule this, we were unable to reach them for days, and when my boss finally reached Chris, he hung up, without saying a word, as soon as he heard our company name. My boss then contacted the "home office" and got all sorts of excuses - they are not anywhere as large as their somewhat amateurish website would try to make it seem. They have refused to fix the mess they made and the tub will need another contractor to come in, completely resand, redo, etc. or a complete removal and replacement.

We could not find any physical address (or even a mailing address) for them on the website. Furthermore, a look the dates of the reviews is pretty suspicious. My boss had our people do some basic research on this company and the results are not comforting: they have apparently been in and out of business in several states, including Florida (long-lapsed incorporation, and the people involved, the Gaylers, etc., having multiple companies, all also lapsed). There are no business licenses (or active corporations) for them in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana or Michigan. There are a number of BBBs that have VERY negative files on them, for example:

    Business Response from Charles

I don't know where to begin with this person. Apparently this guy called us a few months ago and asked for a bathtub quote. His phone # was given to a former affiliate by the name of Chris Risner. We received nothing in compensation for this and didn't expect to and cannot understand why we are even involved. The next thing I know we are being attacked by this person like we were terrorists. Apparently, Chris Risner did refinish this persons 1 piece tub and enclosure and from the two pictures that were emailed to us it did look like it had a run in the surface. I listened to both of their stories and concluded 2 things. 1. The work was substandard. 2. These 2 had a large personality clash. I guess being threatened with everything from the FBI to Homeland Security does tend to heat up any conversation. As far as This attack on "Eastern Refinishing" I will answer him in order of statements. A. I have no idea who this person/company is but I would be willing to bet we have been in business MUCH longer than they have. (Since 1973). B. Our Incorporated address is listed at the B.B.B. as 917 Bruce rd. 9, Wiarton, Ontario Canada and has been since 2000 when we moved here. Before that we lived in Florida (Too hot) and Ohio (Moved when we found our 152 acres). We have no address in Lambertville, Mi. As far as it being a "modest" house we have no idea as we have never been there. As far as "Law Enforcement" is concerned Neither Tracey nor myself have EVER been in trouble with law enforcement. I have never been arrested; or questioned for ANY repeat ANY crime in my life (I am very proud of that little fact)!and it is just this type of insinuation that turns a mole hill into a mountain. We have dropped Chris Risner from our list of affiliates after getting no reasonable response for this persons complaint however I think both parties are at fault. Mr. Risner might need a refresher course in bathtub refinishing and proper customer care however this person should not be allowed to threaten ANYONE with his type of threats which are simply LIES and BULLYING and could get THEM in trouble with the FBI. This person simply went off the rails with his threats; and all we did was pass along his phone #. In summation I would like to re-state that we neither sold this job nor received a dime for it and cannot for the life of us understand how we became the bad guys. Coastal Refinishing sold the job; did the job and got paid for the job. If a job is done by Eastern Refinishing the check is made to Eastern Refinishing. Period! Eastern Refinishing received nothing but this bad review. This review is blantantly unfair to our company and we believe we are being attacked because we simply connected these two companies. I fully expect this to be taken down quickly as we did nothing wrong. Charlie

    AWESOME!!!

Last year, I had my very ugly harvest gold bathtub refinished by Eastern Refinishing Company. It is now white, and it looks like a brand new bathtub!!! It makes a world of difference!!! I can't believe it's the same 30+ year old tub!!! I am now having them come back to refinish the towel racks, soap holder, toothbrush holder, and toilet paper holder. I can't wait! My cousin had recommended Easterm Refinishing Company to me, and I am so happy she did. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is considering refinishing work. The service, price, and quality of their work is excellent.
