Capella is a good solution for those who cannot get to another university or college, either due to family commitments (my issue) or because of being in the boonies.
The University is somewhat challenging, especially if you are not a self-motivated learner. If you are self-motivated and organized, you will fit right in. There is a tremendous amount of reading and writing required - much more so than in a brick-and-mortar college! As an online university, I think they do this deliberately. After all, you have to learn everything on your own in an online environment.
My only criticism of the school is that there is never enough involvement from the professor! Students teach each other, in effect, and some of what they teach each other may be incorrect. It would be nice if the instructor would intercede and correct things, but too often, they do not. I gather from friends taking classes at other online schools, that this is endemic among them.
Capella does do a much better job than other online schools to warn you about licensing issues. They very clearly say that they cannot guarantee that their classes or degrees will get you licensed, and that it is YOUR responsibility to check your state laws to see what you need to do. This is SO true! Do NOT assume that the training you get will be what your state wants!
