My mother has shopped at this Kroger for over 30 years. She knew where everything was located and most of the employees well. Now that the renovation is complete of the Hwy 70 store, she does not like to shop there at all. The store is too massive now. The layout is more difficult to maneuver. And even though the idea of carrying more brands and more exclusive brands sounds good in theory .. the store now has less shelf space per brand. When 15 of an item used to be in the shelf, now there is maybe 5 of an item so the store tends to stay out of stock on key items. This location had a high population of elderly shoppers. The size and layout of the store is overwhelming for them now. The parking lot redo is ridiculous! Parking is more scarce than ever now. She doesn't recognize most of the employees now. My mother however and some of her friends are going to shop elsewhere. She is closer to a Publix and the renovation has pushed her toward shopping there. I myself have been in the Hwy 70 location a couple of times since the reno and I too feel overwhelmed! I do not like the new store at all. The last time I went in, I was attacked on the head by a bird. Very different atmosphere than when it seemed like a neighborhood grocery. Now it seems like a big, cold warehouse almost. Not impressed. The only saving grace was the employees were friendly and tried to be helpful but even they didn't know where things were.
This newly remodeled Kroger has a wonderful variety of foods and non-edibles. I particularly like the organic foods located between the bakery and bread section, and it is nice to be able to buy some natural foods in bulk. The staff is consistently helpful and friendly. The store's layout is not particularly customer friendly. It takes me twice as long to shop now because of the relocation of items and the inconvenience of having to circle around the massive produce, cheese, deli, and bakery areas. I also find it in poor taste to have to walk through the adult beverage aisle to get to the loaves of bread. I also think of how difficult it is for people in a hurry to transverse from one end of the store to the other for bread and milk, but I know that is part of the game consumers must play in supermarkets. The availability of parking seems to have improved, but it can be very dangerous trying to enter or exit from both Old Hickory Blvd. and Highway 70. I give this Kroger a 3-star rating due to overall inconvenience.
This is a middle of the road Kroger that is great mainly for it's convenience and proximity to everything else in the Bellevue area. The positives are cleanliness, the fact that it's one of the Kroger stores that sells Christie cookies, and that it now has Clicklist. They also have a friendly staff in the specialized sections like deli, bakery, and meat. On the other end, the chocolate chip Christie cookies are often out of stock (not their fault, but still irritating) and sale items also go out of stock quickly. The store layout is a little off as well; it's a bit disconcerting compared to most other Krogers. The parking lot is a nightmare and sometimes I won't go just because it's a bit stressful to just park. All in all, some positives and some negatives. Just your run of the mill busy neighborhood Kroger.
