Transmission Masters

I have a 1997 Jaguar that is almost like family I have had it so long. When the transmission went out and the dealer quoted $7000 for a re-manufactured replacement, I thought it might be the end of the road. A friend had used Transmission Masters for his Silverado truck and was satisfied, but that is a long way from a Jaguar. With fear and trepidation, I called and let them provide the free tow to their shop to diagnose the problem. Without pulling the transmission and taking it apart, no one can tell you exactly what is wrong and exactly how much it will cost to fix. They expected it to cost between $2500 and $3000 to repair. I told them that I was not willing to spend more than $3500. They assured me it would cost less than that or they would pay the overage. Three days later, they call me and tell me my car is ready and the bill is $2800 and change. Now, four months later, I have not had the first problem and the car shifts like new -- smooth when leisurely riding, and aggressive when I need it. Thanks guys.

I have never done a review on the net but...this has to be shared. It is not like other car services as it is typically a one time thing, so who really knows? After extensive shopping by phone and internet we found most shops did not work on VWs or offered nothing besides expensive replacement of the entire unit. Jasper had nothing and the dealer was over $5000 for a reman unit. What? They were the most relaxed and confident on the phone so...I gambled on their "free tow & free analysis".Then the estimate we were given was actually on the lower end once they got it disassembled. How often does that really happen? They showed us the gearsets that blew apart and all the other parts that were replaced. We got a 3 year warranty which was better than the other places we did not go to AND they saved us thousands. It took us a couple of weeks to get our money together and they even accomodated that with no extra fees! When we picked up our car I saw a Range Rover, BMW and a Subaru among other cars in their shop so they are import guys, no doubt. But, it was the article on the wall that really got my attention.....They were featured in, of all things, Transmission Digest magazine as having a better way to do things. I could not agree more. I do not know what else they could have done for us in our time of need and anxiety. WOW! Thanks Tom.
