Established in 1973, the Tennessee Housing Development Agency offers housing rehabilitation solutions and assists with the construction of new homes. The agency is a political subdivision of the state of Tennessee. It is responsible for administering various housing programs for low-income households. The Tennessee Housing Development Agency offers affordable mortgage funds to assist with the construction of housing units for low- and moderate-income families. The agency administers the Emergency Shelter Grant Program to increase the number of emergency shelters and transitional housing facilities for homeless individuals and families. Its Emergency Repair Program for the Elderly offers grants to renovate houses for senior citizens. In addition, the Tennessee Housing Development Agency provides down payment assistance programs for first-time homebuyers.
