On low setting the AC blew me away. It was a real problem because we needed the air conditioning but the air blew so strongly it was uncomfortable and blew my hair around, and I kept trying to dodge it, and had to stand in the corner of the room to escape it. The room was so tiny the wind reached almost everywhere. The shower and sink were so small. There was barely any room to sit anything down. You couldn’t avoid the shower spray. You take a step and you’ve met the end of the shower. The bathroom door didn’t lock. No continental breakfast, no complimentary meal at the restaurant. No phone to call the office. No filter for the coffee machine. Microwave showed the wrong time. There was no outlet in the bathroom, which was inconvenient. The entire room was wood paneling, which was a little much, but not awful. They had white wicker furniture which was okay. The cable I’m used to because most places have it. It just would have been nice to have a guide of the channels so we didn’t have to surf through everything. The view was really awful. One window as overlooking the brick building, the courtyard rooms of Owen’s Motel beside us. The other was facing the run-down parking lot. The size of the room we really couldn’t get past. You take about 5 steps and you’ve just met your new perimeter. Rooms got progressively worse after the ocean view. Courtyard room we checked smelled so bad we declined it. It was really musty and just really strong and awful. We stayed in the rooms across the street from the office. The sheets were clean and I slept good though, so no complaints about the beds. There were no tissues. No chain lock on the door. It could have used some added security with that. It was an okay room, if a little outdated and way too small. It was just a nice walk to the beach though and a really close drive or walk to Jeanette’s peer, which was the good part if you’re looking to not spend too much time in the hotel room and you want to be out on the beach or the peer. I’d like to check the size and everything of their ocean front rooms, which are the nicest-looking on their brochure. I wouldn’t stay in the other rooms again unless I just had to—like we did this time because everywhere else was full or too expensive because of weekend, summer, oceanfront prices. The lady working there—short blonde hair and blue eyes—was really friendly and helpful finding us a place. She didn’t have more than one night at Owen’s Motel so called around for over 20 minutes at hotels even in neighboring towns so we had a place to stay. That was so nice of her to do that and go the extra mile for us and we really appreciated that.

loved my stay the rooms are large , very clean, the maids are very nice , the lady at the desk very helpful, and they have 3 pools and hot tub. if you want to see the ocean from your room you need to be on 2nd, or 3rd floor and it is a walk up. but there is a nice deck for coffee that sits on top of the dunes with a wonderful view. and all very kid friendly. We had 2 rooms w\\ 10 in out party age 50+ to 3 and it was the best time .and it's close to anything you need. we'll be back. thank you blue heron motel for a great stay.
This is our favorite place to stay when we go to the Outer Banks, We have tried others ....but as long as it is managed by Kerri Good we will keep returning. We had the best experience ever at the Colonial Inn. We were there the first week of May 2011. Great management, they treat you as family and a very relaxing atmosphere. Staff very friendly and accomadating. Love that popcorn and Kerri and family, could not ask for more. Dog friendly....Captain Banx had a great time and was very spoiled. Susan and Rick Stevens
