Founded in 1989 as IRIS Medical Instruments, IRIDEX Corporation is developing, manufacturing and marketing medical laser systems. The company produces semiconductor-based laser systems, which are used to treat eye diseases in ophthalmology and skin afflictions in dermatology. The ophthalmic products include the IRIS Medical OcuLight GL/GLx green, OcuLight SL/SLx infrared, IQ 810 infrared laser photocoagulators and a selection of laser delivery devices. The dermatology products are used by dermatologists, plastic surgeons and cosmetic physicians to perform a variety of cosmetic procedures, including the treatment of vascular, pigmented, and cutaneous lesions, as well as perform laser facial treatments, treat skin diseases and remove unwanted hair. The company s products are sold in the United States through a direct sales force and internationally through a network of independent distributors into more than 100 countries. IRIS Corporation maintains its headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.
