Monterey Park can be said to be the new China Town. No longer do you have to travel to downtown to get good Chinese food. Here in Monterey Park a person can try authentic Chinese food without the hassle of getting stuck in downtown traffic. There are many places to choose from and it depends in what you are looking for. If you like the traditional hot carts coming around your table, then there are plenty of other restaurants in the city you can go to. But if you want to be served and have your Dim sum brought to you hot and fresh then I highly recommend Elite. The Hargaw is awesome and so are the many other dishes such as the Lotus leafs, Sumai and the Macau egg tart. I have lived in the city for 2yrs ever since I got married and have tried many of the great places here and one cannot get better service nor better dim sum then Elite. I look forward to every weekend walking down to Elite and sharing Dim sum with friends and family. Some come as far as Rowland Heights. I do recommend you come early around 9am because by 10 the line starts. The seating is nice and so are the people. You say you don’t know what to order, the menus have pictures and the menu is in English and Chinese. You can even ask the staff in black coats for help. Do what I do look over your shoulder and order what looks good. You can’t go wrong. See you there on Saturdays; I’m the guy with Zyzzx cap
Descent Chinese food restaurant in the area. Expect some wait time because this place is always packed and they only let you seat in when all people of your group show up. About the food: Mongolian Beef- It was the first dish that was served. The taste was great but a bit too flavorful as first dish... I could not taste the Pan Fried Bao after this. I would recommend to eat this toward middle or the end, and eat it with rice. XLB (Soup dumplings)- it's average, the flavor was good and there's some soup inside the dumplings; but it did not give me the "wow" impression. The staffs did not provide us spoons for this dish. Beef Wrap- Good, I liked how they put cucumber inside the roll, gave it a refreshing taste in contrast to the beef. Salt Pepper Fried Pork Chop- I'm not a big fan of this dish, but I tried it. The texture of the pork was very tender. According to my friends to loves fried pork chop, they rated this dish a solid A. Pan Fried Bao- the presentation looked so good and the sesame of top added crispness to the texture; but unfortunately the dish was a bit lack of tastes (especially we ate it after the Mongolian Beef). I expected there would be some soup inside the bun, but it did not happened. The business has 3 locations in Monterey Park and there were all close by each other. Parking lot and free street parking available.
Elite Restaurant is your typical Chinese restaurant that serves Dim Sum during lunch and traditional family style Chinese cuisine in the evenings. The dim sum here is really good but it is a bit on the pricier end. There aren't any carts, but instead you order from a menu. The benefit is your food never comes out cold and is always freshly cooked. Definitely makes for better quality food. In the evenings they some really good family style dishes. The current promotion is the buy 1 get 1 free lobster which is an awesome deal. Although the lobster is small at 1-1.5 lbs, you essentially get 2-3 lbs for about $10. The thing to know is, you can only have it cooked the traditional green onion and ginger style, otherwise they'll charge you a sur charge for the other style. Still all in all, a very good restaurant in Monterey Park.
