I haven't been riding for even a year, and yet I already help work parties and volunteer some days! The instructors are great! They are stern, but that is because they want you to succeed in this sport! I have learned Western and English riding here. We also practice barrel racing and bareback. There is a man in the barn who helps saddle and bridle the horses. He is such a great help! Without him and my instructors, I would never come this far in equestrian and equine education!

People saying that lorri is a mean instructor and the horses are poor, let me just tell you that it is all untrue. lorri wants you to learn how to ride not just give you the opportunity. I have ridden here on and off and realize that i would never want to switch riding places because lorri wants the absolute best for you and your practice. I am now an intermediate rider and when you get to this level there is no way to ever want to stop. Nova has the biggest arena EVER and lets us ride quality show horses in our lessons. If there is ever a dangerous horse in the barn she will not assign it to you unless she really thinks you can handle a little challenge. At nova you learn how to train, discipline, and love horses. Nova always has lots of new things going on like horse shows and other fun events. Maybe if you end up working there you'll get your own horse. Sometimes when you work extra hard she lets you ride free! cant ask for anything better than that now can ya!

Not worth it!! I recently bought a groupon for a package of 5 lessons for $165, which is a fair price. However, I only used three of the lessons because i did not like nova. Whenever i walked into the office to check in, they looked at me like "umm who are you..." I found that very rude. Also, even though i told them i was an intermediate rider, they still treated me like one of the 6 year olds in the lessons. The older man who helped me saddle up the horse (mike i think his name was?) was very short with me and seemed like he really didnt want to be there. It is really not worth it to go to nova. They are just out for your money and only care about showing horses, not riding for fun or enjoyment. Sure they have a nice building, but this barn is clearly aimed towards a market of snobs.

I have rode here for awhile and would honestly say its ok. I wouldn't call it bad but the owner Lori, does have a few mood swings and never did like me that much. I have also come up with the idea of thinking maybe she judges unfairly by how much you spend on lessons not skills.

Overall
great barn

ive ridden at nova for going on 6 months abd have just leased my first horse. for such a large scale barn the horses are given incredible care and no horse is left in its stall for over a day. she keeps old, unusable horses (like crikette, who is almost 41) and pays for their care out of her own pocket! yes she is concerned about making money! show me one business owner who isnt concerned with making money! that is the point of starting a business. no one puts in the thousands of dollars and hours lorri has with the stable and doesnt want to make a profit. she charges reasonable prices for lessons, shows, and camps. the horse business is very expensive, you know. her barn rules are posted in the aisle, so no one can complain about them not being clear. and i find the staff incredibly trustworthy. i have left my spurs, grooming kits, halters and lead ropes all over the place and they have always been returned to me. if any thing, its the other riders who arent trustworthy. they steal the crops and whips, and often times at their last lessons they like to take saddles and bridles from the private tack room! its not the staff thats dihonest. i love this place and would leave it if you paid me a million bucks

half truths

Who seriously leaves a lap top laying around in a public place and is stunned when it's gone? You weren't in the home of the barn owner were you? Would one leave their lap top unattended at mcdonalds, laundry mat, grocery store or restaurant? I'm thinking not. It amazes me that people are so careless with valuables then blame others when it goes missing.

On lorri....everyone has short comings. Yes, sometimes lorri can be harsh.....and so what. She is gearing our children towards excellence. For sure, in the past 4 years, I have watched every young rider achieve excellence. ask any coach of any competition if sometimes being harsh is part of training.....their answer will be yes. If they deny...they are liars. Add in factors such as the risk of being on top of a 1,200 lb. Animal.....please people get a clue.

Lorri is a tough teacher, sometimes disorganized but has anyone of these negative people on this site ever walk a step in her shoes? I read comments that she only cares about money-----shame on her for wanting to pay bills and make a profit. How evil.....come on...its a business. She should want to make money. Any business venture does. I also know that lorri has taken care of plenty of abandoned horses....at her own cost....gee, what a terrible person. She donates shelter, food and love to horses and wants to make a profit. That horrible business woman. How dare she...????? To all you nay sayers get a clue.

My husband and I have taken lessons with Lori, and have observed many or her pewee, beginner and intermediate classes. I admire her ability to work with such skill and her love of children. I have taught my children to ride many years ago and know of the patients it takes to work with a young child and a horse, I love going just to watch her teach these classes. She is not only a teacher but a mentor. Yes she has scolded me, my husband and our daughter on occasion but for a reason and has been 100% correct each time. Had she not someone could have been injured. Learning to handle a 1200 to 2000 pound animal safely is not something to be taken lightly or with sweet syrupy instruction, even football coaches know you do not coach in such a manner. God Bless you Lorie your a true angle for all you do with the children and for your community.

Bad news

I would not even give it one star but I have to. This is a very unstable, unhealthy and dangerous place for children and adults. Deceptive business practices and

hang on to your valuables around here. They would take the shirt off your back if they could.

Owner Beware

After several years of giving Lorri, the owner of Nova, the benefit of the doubt for her angry, agressive behavior I have decided to leave. Her stable rules change depending on her mood and how well she likes you. Lorri will tell you that something like "what time to be at a show" then change the "time" and agreeement because it din't suit her that day. And still charge full price. Alos no guidelines for class goals or help with show attire. Everything rule and guideline is unclear, nothing is written down for us to use as a guide.

Another thing is that there are no enforced safety precations such as helmets or vests. The websites says helmets are required but no one makes sure that one is wore. Lorri does not own any helmets to let us use.

Dishonest Staff

I've been taking my daughter riding at Nova for 2 years. She had been enjoying lessons until a recent problem. I had left my laptop behind at Nova last time while helping fix Lorri's truck for a show. The laptop was turned into the office, but disappeared from there.

After spending thousands of dollars at Nova, they won't return laptop or even phone calls. I wouldn't leave my child there for camp or lessons after this major trust violation. Who wants their kid instructed by thieves and liars?

A Nova Rider

Nova Quarter Horses is very fun to ride at!! Beautful well-behaived horses (they are bomb proof) and barn. The second review where it gives Nova a 1star rating is krap! Sometimes the lessons are very packed with nose to tail lessons but if you look at their lesson scheduel the whole thing is packed with lessons, and she can t work her horses that much! If you child is younger your probably not going to learn much because Lorri wants them to learn the basics of steer stop go, walk and trot. thats not a bad thing because after the progress they will learn more things and have soooooooo much fun! The barn just needs a few minor things:painting, new floors, new tack, and barn doors but that might not be things she needs to do! Also Lorri sometimes gets new horses from shows for FREE and they are great horses! I would recomend this barn to anyone who loves horses!!!!

From a Nova Rider

In the beginner lessons, I agree that the arena can be too packed and just going in lines, but at this point they are teaching students to sit and about their posture. Most of Nova's lesson horses are virtually bomb-proof, especially those used in beginner lessons, so the danger of one horse freaking out and causing problems is very low. Remember, Joe is a Nova lesson horse, and he worked part time as a police horse for a short time. In advanced and intermediate lessons, students are expected to control their horses, reprimand their mounts for misbehavior, and figure out how to work their mounts. I do agree that the owner (Lorri) has the goal of working as much money out every student as she can, but in order to do this, she has to train them to work well and understand their horses, because the most money can be received by getting each student to a showing and owning level. If students have bad experiences with safety, they'll stop coming, so they want students to be safe. My problem happens to be with Lorri, but not with her goal of getting money (IN ORDER TO KEEP THE HORSES HEALTHY), rather with her personality. Though she is often polite and kind, she can sometimes be impossible and rude, taking down your confidence with her anger. However, it is possible to avoid Lorri, as I attempt to do, and others have no issue with her, so it may just be me.

Look Out!

This is a dangerous place to take your children for riding lessons. There are too many horses in one lesson, (they are nose to tail while the child rides which can be very dangerous) they do not teach their srudents how to ride only to hang on, and they only care about the money.
