I had a wonderful experience having the dreaded colonoscopy at the surgery center. It was a breeze. This facility is top notch. The staff is friendly, proficient, and very personable. I would highly recommend it.

It is a FDA approved prescription topical medication that makes eyelashes thicker, longer, and darker. Bimatoprost is the drug name, and Latisse is the same formulation as Lumigan which is Allergan's eyedrops for glaucoma. Latisse however isn't used as eyedrops, it is topically applied to the upper eyelashes each night.
Laser Eye Surgery
Yes. You should especially tell your physician if you are being seen regarding eye pressure problems (such as glaucoma) or if you are having eye surgery. And also ask your eye physician if you have recent eye trauma. Latisse may lower your eye pressure.

Femoral Hernias – Like the inguinal hernia, femoral hernias also appear in the groin area. These are common in women, but can also appear in men. These are usually the result of a pregnancy, or childbirth. A weakness in the lower groin allows the intestinal sac to drop into the femoral canal. Early repair is strongly advised for this type of hernia, as severe complications such as incarceration and strangulation are common.

We moved to New Jersey, where my father commuted to Columbia University Medical School in NYC doing a fellowship in obstetrical ultrasound. My two brothers and I had a great time, because the States was so different, and everything seemed so much bigger and so much more abundant. People were so friendly too!
Chemotherapy
Acupuncture has been described to be an entire system of medicine. Books have been written about how to take care of every malady. In my humble experience, acupuncture does better with certain problems than others. The ailments with reasonably good responses are: back pain, neck pain, headache, pain from arthritis, myofascial pain, pain after surgery, post operative nausea, chemotherapy nausea, pregnancy related nausea, nerve compression related pain, gynecological pain, fertility issues, allergies, asthma, anxiety, stress, smoking addiction, and fine facial wrinkles (cosmetic acupuncture).

I was a Brown University Medical School Anatomy teaching assistant in 1995 when I was a second year medical student. Not a big deal, it was something I did to earn some extra money to help with medical school tuition. I was lucky enough to be selected to help out the next year's medical school anatomy class. I think there was about 6 teaching assistants from the previous class that stayed on to teach. I had even obtained an optional certificate to teach at Brown University. I think this made me more "marketable" when finding teaching assistant jobs (I also was a teaching assistant for a neuro-psychology lab - I ran one lab station and graded papers). With the anatomy assistant teaching of medical students, I walked around and helped with cadaver dissections and gave demonstrations of particular parts of the body. I had finished my anatomy class in 1994. But the teaching experience helped me continue my respect for anatomical knowledge in general surgery and acupuncture.

In performing reconstructions of body parts, we first have to learn the “normal” and what “normal” looks like so that we may reconstruct the area that is missing, has been traumatized, or mutilated where the original form is no longer available or visible. For instance, in my previous article which described some of the procedures that I participated in as a medical student at Brown University, reconstruction requires careful attention to the fine details of the normal so that the appropriate form, function, and esthetics may be restored. This same close attention to detail is applied toward our cosmetic surgery training. Cosmetic surgery is essentially reconstructive surgery that has been taken a step further, with the goal of enhancing a body part to be as close as possible to ideal.

Breast Reconstruction
I went on to watch more fascinating surgeries and the transformations that took place. The emotional healing that took place with the completion of breast reconstruction for a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer. The confidence that she exuded walking through the plastic surgeon’s office six weeks after all the surgeries were completed and the smile on her face that lighted the room. She was a completely different person than the one that I met on her first visit after the cancer surgery (mastectomy). I had not observed such diversity in any other specialties, and I thought, wow, I’d like to be able to be the one offering these services to people to help improve the quality of their lives.

Dermabrasion
Microdermabrasion (sometimes called microderm) is a gentler form of dermabrasion. Both of these procedures rub away the outer layers of the skin and later allow the skin to renew itself. They both involve "sanding" of the skin to a smoother finish, but at different depths. We will be focusing the discussion of this article on microdermabrasion which is offered in our office.

I have a range of professional skincare products for purchase to ensure that the results achieved in the treatment room are maintained at home with a proper daily skincare regimen. Microdermabrasions are performed with a crystal free diamond tip machine. It is equipped with multiple heads in order to treat the face and body, 2 ultrasound wands, an ultrasonic skin scraper for deep cleaning, and a hepa filter. For acne prone skin, I sometimes use a high frequency machine to shrink lesions and kill P Acne bacteria.
Chemical Peels
Results from peels and lasers come from similar mechanisms of skin resurfacing. There are many arguments regarding which is better because they both treat similar aspects of aging skin. The blue coloring of the Blue Peel helps the practitioner gauge the depth and consistency of the peel. Lasers have dials that increase/decrease the strength of the energy. At Surgical Artistry, we currently only have a vein laser. Thus our experience is greater with chemical peels for facial skin resurfacing. There are also so many different lasers and there are also so many different chemical peels. The comparison is difficult. There's also differences in pricing - yet another consideration. Lasers (and other energy based devices such as RF) usually cost more than chemical peels due to the cost of the equipment and maintenance.

Microdermabrasion
It's the gentle abrading away of the outer skin surface. Some microdermabrasion units use crystals and some are without. The one we use at our office is without crystals. It removes the top layer of skin and dead skin cells. Thus, it promotes the production of new cells from the dermis. It cleans out your pores and helps to prevent future breakouts of acne if used on a regular basis. Microderm is usually performed on the face and upper chest areas but any part of the body with skin can use microdermabrasion as well.

Physical Therapy
The top procedure that works for my patients using acupuncture is muscle related pain anywhere in the body - such as the back, neck, or even the bottom of the foot. The procedure involved in treating some of these muscle pains involves trigger point deactivation with the "Ah-Shi" technique of acupuncture which can be considered a small surgical procedure that uses the needle to gently break up the fibrous connective tissues. Patients are sometimes sore in the recovery phase of this procedure which usually lasts less than 24 hours - very similar to muscle soreness after an intense workout. After getting this procedure, patients report that even their massage, physical therapy, stretching and chiropractic sessions seem to work even better. As electricity is one of the languages of the human body, there is also a technique which applies a gentle electrical current directly into the tense muscle which can help them relax.
