The food used to be better years ago. I ordered sweet&sour pork and I used to get green pepers & onions on it with rice this time I just got the meat & rice. Not very good.

I went based on the 5 reviews posted. To call it low-grade dogfood would be harsh, but close to the truth. Not to sound pretentious, I have been to China, and frequent S.F.'s Chinatown frequently. In their defense, I did not try the most popular item, the Garlic Chicken. Thank God the rice is palatable, ( Not great, barely passable ) or I might have starved. My wife is of the same opinion, we threw away most of the food. Very disappointed. Sorry to China Gate, the people were very pleasant and friendly, they got two stars based on the service, which was stellar. The food was inedible.

WORLDS BEST HOT AND SOUR SOUP POT STICKERS AND CHOW MEIN. Their Hot and Sour Soup is absolutely authentic. A bit stronger and much more flavorful than most establishments ""American"" version of a Chinese soup. This is an awesome to go neighborhood Chinese joint. Good prices and quick service. Also the kitchen is open and you can watch your food as it is being prepared. Try it for lunch sit-down or dinner/anytime to-go!
I had heard good things about this place for quite awhile including write-ups in local papers. The dish everyone said to try was 'Davids Special', so thats what I ordered. The asian lady who took my order couldnt have been nicer, big smiles and she was pretty. My favorable impression died when I got my take out container out and looked at "Davids Special', it was brown greasy noodles that had the texture of rubber mixed in with old looking vegetables and chicken that tasted foul (no pun intended). This food was barely edible! And I'm not a fussy eater; when food is less than stellar I can usually muster through it but this was BAD! It was like old bits and pieces thrown together. Won't be going back to China Gater EVER even though I live a short distance away.

Great food and customer service good. I work in the area, and order to go for lunch once a week. Fried prawns are very delicious, along with the pork chow mein and pork friend rice. The combination plates offer a variety of favorites for reasonable prices.

Suprisingly to some there are quite a few Chinese restaurants in town and this is the best. My favorite is the General's Chicken, the Garlic Chicken is also very good. They are closed Sundays and they can be very busy for lunch. A little off the beaten track but well worth the trip
