Vaccination
Your companion is now among that group of older pets who can benefit from a health monitoring program that addresses age-related changes. The biological clock moves much faster for pets than it does for people. Instead of taking 18 years to reach physical maturity as people do, pets mature when they are slightly more than one year old. Each year of a pet’s life is equivalent to 5-7 human years, and 10-15% of its total life span. While certain conditions such as vision and hearing loss cannot be prevented, timely wellness examinations, routine vaccinations, dental check-ups, proper diet, and regular exercise can add significant years to your pet’s life. Detecting problems early prolongs the quality of life as well as minimizing the costs of expensive treatments for a condition that could have been prevented.

Our animal clinic is always on the lookout for harmful organisms, including intestinal parasites. Companion animals are susceptible to infection with several intestinal parasites by exposure to the environment, with the most common being hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, coccidia, and giardia. Consequently, your pet will be screened for these by examining the feces, with the results obtained within minutes. Dogs and cats are also commonly infected with tapeworms, either through the ingestion of fleas or less commonly the ingestion of certain rodents.

We provide surgery for basic as well as advanced procedures. Our patients have IV fluids administered during anesthesia, heart, respirations, and blood pressure are monitored using the latest equipment, and appropriate pain control is given.

Prevention of infectious diseases with vaccinations given every 4 weeks, beginning at 6 to 8 weeks of age and ending at 16 to 17 weeks of age. We also highly recommend that all kittens should be feline leukemia virus tested upon first arrival, and retested 6 months later.Keep in mind that one set of vaccinations is NEVER sufficient to stimulate a kitten’s immune system to allow protection against these diseases. When kittens are born, they receive antibodies through their mother’s colostrum (initial milk supply) which will protect them for the first several weeks of life. This immunity begins to decrease at about 4 weeks of age and is usually gone by 7 weeks of age, but these antibodies unfortunately interfere with the kitten’s immune system’s ability to respond to a vaccine adequately. Once the immune system can respond, it needs to be exposed to the same vaccine multiple times to develop enough protective antibodies. Therefore, kittens are at most risk of developing illness from an exposure to an infectious disease between 5 and 16 weeks of age. More detailed information on vaccinations.

X-Ray
Dental Radiology
Maintaining your dog and cat’s oral health is one of the most important aspects of their healthcare. When your pet is admitted to the hospital for a dental cleaning, your veterinarian will do a pre-anesthetic evaluation. The veterinary technician will then place an IV catheter, and start an IV drip to keep your pet well hydrated and allow us to have access to any medications that might be needed during the procedure. After anesthesia is administered and a breathing tube is placed for gas anesthesia, a complete oral examination follows, examining each individual tooth for mobility, fractures, and periodontal disease. Dental x-rays can be performed as needed, to evaluate the teeth for any disease not visible during an oral exam. Our technicians then give the teeth a thorough ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, followed by a fluoride treatment.
Microchipping
Microchips are a permanent form of identification. A small chip the size of a grain of rice is implanted under your pet’s skin in the same manner as giving an injection. The chip contains information about you and your pet and can be read using a special scanner.
