Overall

WOW, I don't really know how to sum up my experience today. I believe in giving the whole story so this may be a bit long, but I believe it is only fair (if you want to skip ahead where things get ugly, read the 2nd to last paragraph). Altug the owner was very nice when I first brought in my jacket for a sleeve tailoring. His price seemed fair for two sleeves, and I left feeling like a just met a very warm and generous person. I have 8 weddings to go to this year alone, so this seemed like a great thing at the time.

When I showed up next time to pick up my jacket, one sleeve was about 1/2-1 inch longer than the other--no problem, I'll just have him alter it a bit and come back once more. He seemed very happy to do this and again, I left feeling like I had just found the nicest tailor in my area.

However, when I came back for the third time, I noticed that the pin he had placed for the second altering was still in the jacket, signaling to me he hadn't actually worked on it, but either forgot or hoped that I would assume he did the job and not notice the lack of difference in length as I had before. I did again notice a difference though, and he was very happy to--in his mind maybe a third time--fix the jacket up. I mentioned this to my gf when I got home how he may not have worked on it, but it still didn't bother me, because he still had such a warm nature about him.

Unfortunately, when I went in the last time, it was a much different situation than the previous ones. The pictures attached show the variance in work done by him. I'll admit that the first sleeve is great! However the one that needed to be re-done is sloppy at best (loose, uneven hems, bad ties, etc), showing little effort and either a lack of care or a rushed job. Not only this, when I showed it to him, he IMMEDIATELY GOT HEATED AND STARTED TO INSULT ME! "That is the best my machine can do", which is a lie, as I then asked how the other sleeve was so good, "you are just too picky, I don't know what you want me to do?!". We have exchanged nothing but pleasantries up to this point, so I was stunned by what I was hearing: "women are not as picky as you!" - mind you a woman was in the store at the time, "you are a child, I can't believe someone could be as rude as you have been", after several insults like this I told him off, he responded by insulting my family, how I was raised, and equating my maturity to that of a child. This is all because he was too proud to admit that his work was not good.

The poor girl who had to witness this was even called on by him to judge his work on the jacket--I showed it to her, although I'll admit I feel bad for complying with Altug's wish to put her in this unfortunate position, as she was dropping something off as well and would be at his mercy thereafter--and she admitted the work was "sloppy". She did say it under her breath, I'm sure terrified of this man who I can only describe as Bi-polar in nature, given his range of extremely nice, to impatient, aggressive and insulting. I'll make sure to tell the dozen or so people I know in the city who will be attending weddings this year and who are probably going to be using a tailor at some point, to steer clear of this man and his volatile behavior towards clients.

This is the guy to go to

I went to Altug based on the recommendations people had given on this website. It was well worth the visit. I brought him a linen jacket that needed the sleeves shorten to actual 3/4 length on me and also taken in around the sides. He performed magic and also said if there were additional alterations necessary to bring it back. He has the eye - sees what needs to be done even though you might not notice it. Fabulous and talented.
