Visiting veteran restaurant owners from East Coast / Hong Kong ate here and were absolutely delighte
Don't let the tacky pink awning at the entrance or the unassuming location in Stadium Village fool you. Or the disgustingly grimy, well-used laminated menus (just wash your hands after ordering). Hong Kong Noodles has marvelous, authentic, Cantonese-style Chinese dishes crafted from quality ingredients and dished out in generous portions. We're originally from Hong Kong, have been in the Chinese restaurant business for 30 years, and eaten all over from NYC, Frisco, DC, HK, mainland China. Three of us came, saw, and ate for $40 total. The sauteed spinach with garlic was fresh, juicy, and tender with the right amount of garlicky heat...and enough on the plate for probably 4 people. The seafood with chive stalks and bean sprouts was overflowing with yummy fish, large shrimp, creamy scallops and tender squid, balanced by the fresh crispness of the vegetables...enough for 3 people on one plate. The roast duck in our wonton soup was sinfully rich and meaty with the right amount of sweetness and salt. The beef brisket and tendons in our wonton soup were equally delicious and cooked to perfection with beefy goodness. The wonton soup THIN noodles were tasty with good bite. However, the thicker FUN noodles seemed a little dry and texture was off. Also, the pork/shrimp wontons in our soup seemed on the medium-rare side, so we considered asking to have them cooked a little longer...but were enjoying our main dishes so much we forgot about eating them.
The dishes we ate here were delicious and skillfully made with and fresh, quality ingredients (exception would be the thick fun noodles). We ate here because a relative of ours was graduating from the University of Minnesota, but we ended up pleasantly surprised and a few pounds heavier. We will eat again at this place before we fly back to the East Coast.
