THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT, BEING LOCATED ONE DOOR WEST OF McDonald's aka/"MICKEY D'S". YOU ARE REALLY TALKING ABOUT BOTH ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM. THE BLUEMOND INN WAS ACTUALLY A LONG TIME DREAM FULFILLED BY OWNER JIMMY BALISTRERI. HE HAS BEEN AROUND THE BLOCK A FEW TIMES, STARTING MAKING PIZZA, AND EVENTUALLY STARTING & OWNING BALISTRERI'S PIZZA IN WAUWATOSA. (68th & Wells) HE HAD LONG BEEN AN ADMIRER OF THE LOCATION AND RESTAURANT. SO AFTER SPENDING HIS TIME "IN THE TRENCHES" HE BOUGHT, REMODELED & OPENED IT AS BALISTRERI'S BLUEMOUND INN. AGAIN PUSHING THE ENVELOPE OF "BOTH ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM". FROM PIZZA IN TOSA TO FINE DINING ON BLUEMOUND ROAD. I HAVE EATEN, AND ADDED POUNDS TO MY WAISTLINE, AT THE BLUEMOUND INN. THE FOOD IS TRULY UNIQUE AND EXCEPTIONAL. YOU REALLY CAN'T GO WRONG WITH ANY OF THE MENU SELECTIONS. I ESPECIALLY LIKE THAT THEY SERVE UNTIL 1:00 AM. BEING A NIGHT OWL THIS FITS THE BILL. DON'T EXPECT THE BEST COOKING TO STOP BECAUSE OF THE LATE NIGHT SERVING HOURS. JIMMY IS VERY FUSSY ABOUT FOOD QUALITY & CONSISTANCY. I COULD RECOMMEND AN ENTREE OR APPETIZER, BUT WHY? YOUR TASTE BUDS ARE UNIQUE AND YOURS. AS AN INDIVIDUAL, AND WE ALL ARE DIFFERENT, SO VARY OUR TASTES. I ONLY SAY THAT IF THE UNRECOGNIZED CRITIC RECOMMENDS IT, IT MUST BE AT LEAST WORTH A TRY. WHAT DO THE ITALIAN COOKING SHOW LADIES SAY? ABUNDAZA! BY THE WAY THE DRESS CODE I THINK IS ANYTHING BUT YOUR "BIRTHDAY SUIT". THE ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION PAID TO DETAIL. NOT UPSCALE, BUT NOT CASUAL. A TIE AROUND YOUR NECK, OR A TIGHT BELT RESTRICTS ENJOYABLE DINING. I DON'T RATE INFERIOR RESTAURANT'S, LIFE'S TOO SHORT TO WASTE TIME AT THE COMPUTER KEYBOARD REPORTING BAD. IF YOU SEE A WRITEUP FROM "JOHHNY69" YOU'LL KNOW IT'S ABOUT A GREAT DINING EXPERIENCE I WANT TO SHARE WITH OTHERS.
I love the menu style, the entrees and what the Greek restaurants have to offer. When I go out to eat..I look for the basics ..good customer service, a clean atmosphere and appearance of the waitress and the quatity of the food. The only two Greek resturants that I have been to have been El Greco and Athens. Comparing the two, Athens is much cleaner, the hosts and hostesses greet me with a smile everytime I walk through the door. In addition, the manager,Chris, who's baby is just gorgeous and the owner, I think is his name Dennis, takes the time to come to our table and ask how things are going, the food is better and presented nicer...and the waitresses are sweet, nice and appear sharp. However, at El Greco..I can't believe they're still open. I've seen a waitress drop a toast on ground one late evening and just brush it off and put it back on the plate, then serve it. I've seen a waitress eat something...lick her fingers after she was done...and continue organize a bread basket out the microwave..with the fingers she just licked. I mean..COME ON, EL GRECO MGT...where is the supervison of your staff. I guess I could expect that. I always see people at the bar, that I assume are the owners (cause they look Greek)smoking, talking on the phone as loud as can be in Greek. I believe he is the son or someone, but he's watching that t.v. like he's at home. What's the deal? This is your resturant. You should be more involved with the people that help you get your fancy plants, and clothes and luxuries in life. Your staff is rude and not inviting, your food is flavorless and I just can't imagine how you store, or handle your food if your waitresses have so much access to what I eat. Shame on you El Greco...maybe you should take some pointers from Athens... and be the better Greek restaurant in the area. Deuces!
I discovered this place recently and have eaten here with my friends four times. It's always pretty busy when we go, so the service is occasionally understandably slow. Despite that, all the servers have been friendly and helpful, and I've never had a bad experience. Our server tonight was Karen, who was friendly and good to us (thanks, Karen!) Now for the food: the broasted chicken is crispy outside and moist inside, the fried cod is perfect (the chicken–cod combo is a terrifice deal), the beef and barley soup is fantastic, likewise the beef vegetable soup, the stuffed sole was so-so (good flavor, but too soft and textureless for my taste), Reuben good but corned beef not as lean as I like (but I'm VERY picky about my corned beef). The desserts are delish, and most are big enough to share. I have to single out the apple streudel, which is made on the premises. This is a proper streudel made with a stretched dough (not papery filo), not over-sweetened. The best apple streudel I've had that wasn't made by my grandma. Plentiful delicious food and modest prices. I would recommend Meyer's to anyone.
