That's not how Dim Sum is.

    Provided by

It was a good restaurant before but now it is going downhill. Why? I just want to talk about their Dim Sum. We were sitting upstair which is OK, but then we waited and waited for the Dim Sum to be served, guess what, they bought us chinese brocolli, salt & pepper Sea Bass, Beef Chow Fun instead. Oh come on, I wasn't go there for that. Should we just order couple white rice and finished the brocolli and fish instead of Dim Sum. We asked the waitress for Shrimp Dumpling and Siu Mai, she said it will take another 15 mintues. Not good for restaurant which is supposed to server Dim Sum in the morning. I have noticed that many Dim Sum restaurant in bay area have the same problem. However, Fook Yuen really ticked me off. I won't go further with the quality of the food. There are couple better restaurants on either side on the same street.

    I know my dim sum

    Provided by

Fook Yuen is by far the best dim sum place in the Bay Area that I know of. If you want impeccable service, go to Tommy Toy's. Otherwise you best grin and bear chinese restaurant service in general. The reason you go to Fook Yuen is for the dim sum. Look around you on Sunday where the wait can be one and half hour long with full of Chinese people? No one waits that long for mediocre service. It is worth the wait for those little morsels of delightful, fresh and tasty dim sum that wakes up your palate.

    Horrible service and food

    Provided by

we had a horrible experience with service 2 years ago. the waiter took down the order, repeated it to us AND got it wrong. They also refused to give us our money back for that dish. So, 2 years later, figured maybe they'd improve. Went there today, no one was available to seat us. We finally got a table when the place was still empty, and no one even bothered to come over to bring us tea. We had to ask TWO different waiters to get it. The food is not even that good. Compared with other dimsum places like Koi Palace and King's Bistro in Daly City, this place is a complete DUMP. Don't even bother coming here. Unless you want to pay for expensive food that SUCKS with horrible service.

    Some folks just don't understand

    Provided by

For all of you who complain about the service at dim sum restaurants, realize one thing: it's all about the FOOD! Dim sum restaurants are notorious for bad service and Fook Yuen is no exception. Their food is the best in the Bay Area. The sea food is fresh and yummy. Try the crispy noodles and the spinach dumplings. Close your eyes, inhale and imagine you are in Hong Kong. It's not much of a stretch. Don't complain if your order doesn't show up right away. Just relax and enjoy a delicious lunch.

    The Absolute Worst Service

    Provided by

Fook Yuen's food is ok, but whatever quality is in their food is offset by their horrible service. They're imposing (example: when we didn't order any soup to start our meal, the waitress actually got the manager to ask us ""Are you sure you don't want soup?""). They brought us our check when we were only halfway done eating, and it was only 8:45pm and no one else was waiting for a table. If you want a pleasant experience, do not go to Fook Yuen.

    LOUSY SERVICE AND DECEITFUL STAFF

    Provided by

I went there for dim sum with ONE OTHER friend a week ago. While we were eating our dim sum, they laid a plate of baby suckling pig on the table and said suckling pigs are a part of dim sum menu. The portion seemed extremely generous but just too greasy. Later, they charged us $15 for that suckling pig which turned out to be a full entree, NOT on dim sum menu. We were quite upset that they gave us an entree knowing only too well that we had come for dim sum. When I nevertheless handed him my credit card to charge the bill, they had charged my card a GRATUITY (15%) withOUT our permission or asking us. AND THERE WERE ONLY TWO OF US!!!!! It's jut overrated and it's not worth your trip if you don't speak Chinese.

Best Chinese Restaurant in the Bay Area

    Provided by

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. Great food-- dinner and Dim Sum. Service is marginal-- but no different from other Chinese retaurants around town. Would recommend going early for Dim Sum as things do fill up quickly on the weekends.

    Great food, lousy service

    Provided by

I've been here many times over the years and it's been the same horrific service -- good thing their dim sum is so fresh and tasty that it negates the rudeness of the staff. Try anything resembling a dumpling (especially w/scallops) and you won't be disappointed. More adventurous palates will also enjoy the tripe, baby octopus, goose feet, and other specialties. Be sure to double check the addition on the bill, I've had more than one experience with bad math on their part.
