United Iron Works, Inc.

This is the story in a nutshell of the worst experience with a contractor. United Iron Works installed a driveway gate in my house. Usual time that this would take is approximately 6 weeks - took them 5 months.



1) sales person was attentive and eager to close the sale. First deposit was put in and work started.

2) Received a call from the city informing me that that they had asked the contractor to fix the foundations as they were not up to code (had 3 ft. holes in my driveway for 7 weeks).

3) After chasing the sales person for weeks after weeks for progress and showing up at their office (!!!) the work continued.

4) After finally 5 months work was completed - I honestly just wanted to not have to deal with this company again and paid them the retainer.

6) After 2 months, and the sensor broke and it took them 2 weeks to send somebody. This technician said that the company overcharges and that I did not need to pay him what the company told me to. I gave him $50 for him and he was happy.

7) The sensor is again broken and after calling this company for a whole week I finally get the owner on the phone.

8) The conversation with Maria the owner is what motivated me to write a review and advise everybody to stay away from dealing with United Iron Works. She has no hesitation in telling me that I was exaggerating, that a week was not a long time and they were too busy to worry about maintenance when they had sales to close. She explained to me that it was not her responsibility of her company's turnover and that I should look for a technician on my own. She then went on to explain to me that past customers were not a priority of her business model as she was a manufacturer and did not have staff to offer proper maintenance service!

9) Stay away or make sure that you don't pay them the retainer!

So I had to do some railings for insurance purposes or if not i was told my policy would get cancelled. I looked around for some contractors that could possibly help me out but in the end I was recommended by my friend to try out United since he had used them before in the past. I gave them a call, explained my situation and set up an appointment. They came by measured the steps where my railings needed to go and in a day or so had the proposal in my email. I signed off since the price was good for the railings and also since I was in a hurry, I wanted to make sure they had enough time to do everything. At that time I was very skeptical since I have heard of other companies not following through, however two weeks later they came by, and in less than an hour installed the railings. I then proceeded to show the insurance to keep my policy active. During this entire time United was very professional, helpful, and diligent in their work. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone in need of some metal work. Thank You!

United Iron Works did a tremendous job on my driveway entry gate. Not only did they make the gate, but they did the entire job start to finish, turnkey (and the best price for top notch quality). I had two walls, four columns and a beautiful metal gate that in my opinion is better than any gate I have seen on Palm Beach and Jupiter Island.
