In 2013 I worked at My Father Cigars and the company was celebrating its 10th anniversary. This party was to be held at the company's warehouse, which had no air-conditioning, had a ramp, was big but was simply a warehouse, not a party space. We had about 250 guests, from VIPs, important clients, family, friends, etc and everything needed to be impeccable and exquisite. I emailed, called, and met with a few planners but they didn't really understand the concept, they didn't understand that people needed to be able to smoke cigar (the reason it was being held at the warehouse), and that although we had a healthy budget, we needed someone to help us manage it and put the money where it was best. From the moment Grisel and Pupi walked in, myself and my bosses at the time, knew we had found our match. From the first meeting to every meeting after that, there was full attention to every single detail, with maps to show where everything would be. They listened to everything we needed, wanted, and surpassed all those requests. They piped and draped the place, air conditioned the space, leveled the ramp, and transformed the place to the point that guests who had been there before where asking what part of the building they were in. Their staff, valet, dj, etc were amazing. Their food was delicious, the coffee station was the perfect compliment to the cigars, and the famous palm tree was an absolute hit. Thank you so much to this company, Grisel & Pupi, and their staff for an unforgettable and perfect celebration. I highly recommend them to take care of any of your events!
I'm living in the Ukraine now and flew to Miami for Ultra Music Festival. This year it's two weekends long and it's been crazy can't wait until Friday, I know I'm going to be hung over probably when I catch my flight back on Tuesday, but i'll have plenty of time to sleep it off. Im staying at the the Marriott not to far from Ultra and ended up going into Silvio's bar and gril. It was chill in their and the owner wasn't a jerk like some of the other places who treat Ultra goers like we're just drugged up and assume we're not going to tip well. To keep on topic though, this place is very friendly to people attending Ultra, and they don't change the menu prices to try an take advantage. The food was good, and I was surprised how quick the food came cause the place was pretty packed. The chicken wings were my favorite, and they cook the burgers how you ask, which is a must for me. I've gone in a few more times for food and drinks during the week. The workers are friendly which is important because I've felt uncomfortable going to other places, (I dress a little crazy, but it's Ultra, an if you know what it's about then you know what I mean). Overall one of my favorite place to eat since I've been in town, especially in the immediate area downtown, haven't traveled out to far went to a few places in Mary Brickell Village, i think it's called, but it's kind of uptight on that side.
I recently went to eat at this cute little asian restaurant that specialized in three oriental cuisines. Hidden behind Don Fernando's, a Cuban version of "Long John Silver", it was especially hard to find but luck had it that I spotted this small neighborhood jewel. When you walk in there's nothing fancy about it but you can feel the comfort of home. They also have the traditional seating on the floor right to the side of the door. The asian decor and beautiful orchids gives the restaurant a traditional/vintage ambiance. With only about 10 tables and a sushi bar I felt very cozy. The menu is more like a book with so many choices for Chinese, Thai, and Japanese foods. We ordered the fried rice which tasted better than any other chinese restaurant I've ever been to, and trust me I've been to a lot. The thai curry was delicious! And the sushi was by far the best I've had. Shibui, Bonsai, Akashi, Sushi Samba, Sushi Rock, Sushi Maki, Moon, Ruson, all cannot even be compared in freshness and in flavor! Kam Wah is in a league of it's own. I kinda feel a little guilty for exposing this exceptional gem but I felt the need to share my wonderful experience. Check it out... you'll love it!!!!
