On February 5, my daughter ordered a king cake from Gambino’s ($55) to be delivered to Baltimore for her sister’s 40th surprise birthday party. The cake ended up being the big surprise and a very disappointing one. Tracking the package indicated that it had been left on the front doorstep, but we found the cake several hours later by the garage door, left upside down in bad weather. It was crushed, the purple sugar had spilled out of its container and turned black, and there was no green sugar in the box. It was not a cake we could serve to our guests at this very elegant New Orleans – themed dinner party.
Upon contacting Gambino’s and talking to three representatives, their decision was to stick to their no refund policy because the cake had not been returned. Who would have thought that it was going to be necessary to return the damaged cake? In spite of my sending photos of the cake, Gambino’s refused to issue a refund and begrudgingly offered instead (after two phone calls and two e-mails) a $20 credit towards a future order. THERE WILL BE NO FUTURE ORDERS.
What is most disturbing about this experience is that I never once received any word of apology from Gambino’s, only repeated admonishment for my failure to comply with their policy, which is not posted on their website, by the way. According to their way of thinking, I was the one at fault!
So, would I recommend Gambino’s? Absolutely Not! A good bakery that knows so little about customer service is not worth dealing with. There are plenty of good bakeries in New Orleans and I would be willing to bet, they treat their customers right.
Disappointed in the dobache cake. Each time we shell out money on this cake we are disapointed with the stale dry taste. For less than 1/2 the cost I can go to Rouse's or Robert's and get a fresher cake. Please improve his cake to what it used to be from your bakery.

I ordered a cake for mother's day - the box contained no cake - just sugar and filling.. We called and left a message on Saturday since corporate was closed. Left phone number for a call back - no phone call back so called again on monday - lady said manager would have to call back -- never got a call. E-mailed a form in - no response. 2 weeks later got the manager finally - he called me a liar and said unless I have pictures to prove what I say he cannot do anything. How can I take a photo on something that isn't there? Never ever again will I subject myself to this place. I'm done!

In my earlier years visiting Gambino's on veterans I loved the place. Reciently I have been in twice with the same results, hardly no items in the case and the employees (2 or 3 ladies) are not friendly, they huddle together in the back and you can stand at the counter for a while before comming out, they make you feel like the're doing you a favor waiting on you. There were no King Cakes on the table out front and I asked for one. They said they had none till the next day when they would get some from the warehouse? I saw several stacks of King Cakes in the back , what's up with this??? I will never enter a Gambino bakery again. I hope the owner sees this post and does something about this.

I was very disappointed with the Gambino cakes and service. I planned a special ""Mardi Gras"" theme wedding shower for my daughter. I ordered the cakes 2 weeks in advance and asked them to send them to arrive 2 days before the event. They sent the cakes immediately, which meant that I had to freeze them.
I ordered a King Cake and a Doberge Cake. The King Cake was 1/2 the size of a King Cake that we had received in the past from another bakery. The frosting and colored sugar was sent separately so I had to decorate myself.
One side of the Doberge cake was squished and was very very small.
Both cakes tasted delicious but for $127 + shipping I will not order from them again.

I just picked up a cake I ordered from Gambino's for a baby shower. When I ordered it, I was initially told that they do not make any sort of baby shower themed cakes, just traditional cakes with the icing roses. This was fine, except I had to purchase baby shower type trinkets to put on the cake. When I placed my order, I specified that it as for a baby shower and that it needs to be in a light blue. The woman who took my order said ""so you want it in baby blue?"" I once again said yes, a very light blue. Wel I picked up my order and the cake was more like an ocean/teal kind of blue, not light baby blue. I didn't argue with the ladies there since it was not their fault, although they were quite rude and ignored me for a while until I started tapping my keys on the counter. I left and called the main line, and the rudest woman answered who told me, ""well I don't know what you want me to do about it."" I asked to speak to the manager Randy who kept telling me this was what I ordered, and if I wanted something lighter, I would have had to bring in a swatch of a particular color. I was then told I could bring it back and they would redo it, but it would not be ready until the late afternoon the next day, and I needed this cake for the morning. Just like the rude woman, he said ""well I don't know what you want me to do about it."" They would not refund my money or attempt to get me a new cake for the morning. I most definitely do not recommend them for anything. I would not have been as angry if they would have just apologized, but their rude attitude was enough. I will definitely not go back there and will tell everyone else I know to do the same.

Went in on Friday, July 14th. Three caucasion ladies stood at the counter and said nothing. STRIKE ONE.. Conversated among themselves. I came in for cheesecake and a chocolate cake for my girls. My young daughter wanted something on the table that is set up as soon as you walk in the door. I looked up to ask what are the flavors because it wasn't specified. I actually had to ask two or three times to get an answer. STRIKE TWO.. that return remark from one of the ladies was so not appealing that I actually wanted to walk out then, but my little daughter wanted this cup of butter melts. STRIKE THREE... I went over to the counter and they all at once walked into the back and disappeared. I looked at the good looking pieces of cake and sweets. The service made me want nothing anymore. I stood there for a while and no one came to the front. My daughter wanted this but the waiting was nosense when I was the only customer. There was no How can I help you, no Hello, No nothing... I put the cup of melts on the counter and said no thanks to myself as I was walking out my daughter. She going over to the table again but I told her no.. A lady came out with a pink smock shirt and looked straight passed me just as they all did when I first waked in. I looked back at her and said ""you really don't want to make any sales do you?"" You know this lady had this look came over her face and the lines in her face squinched up and said ""WHAT"" loud. I said ""you really don't want to make any sales, especially when you ignore your guest"" and I walked out with my daughter... This is not the first time this has hapened to me. And this has actually happened to many whom are not welcomed in this particular Bakery. I know this for a fact because, I have had a bad experience in this Gambino's many times before. And have heard from many others of there experience. I don't know why I keep going back. I actually thought after Hurricane Katrina it would be a little better. No change at all.
