I have been seeing Dr. Hooft and his fellow associates since his clinic opened about 10 years ago. Everyone is always friendly and courteous and I'm always able to get right in. You never need an appointment, regardless of what you are being seen for. Whether it's an illness, injury or just routine lab work, they always get you in right away. Even though I have moved farther away and also changed jobs (I used to work across the street from the clinic), I'll take my time and drive through 3 towns to see Dr. Hooft rather than go to a clinic that is closer to me.

Dr Hooft has treated me so well, with concern for my needs also since 2006. For me his the complete family physician and licensed medical doctor which are becoming scarce. I have no complaints and neither does my family from our history with Dr Hooft.

Been a patient there since 2006

My husband and I have been going to the clinic since it opened. We have been amazed at Dr Hooft and his staff not only being efficient but extremely kind. We have gone there for everything from stomach flu to back pain. We were diagnosed correctly and referred to specialists when needed . I have read some of the critical reviews and cannot confirm any of those comments. Dr. Hooft is a fine dr and has gotten our family through so much. When we had times of no insurance we were charged a fair amount and the medical staff either gave us samples or found the cheapest generic. We have been to the emergency room and they do so many unnecessary tests. Dr Hooft is more practical and orders tests when indicated. We appreciate this clinic so

Much and have sent countless co workers, friends and family there. We have always been thanked for referring them there and they have reported the same great service.

Thank you!

No one ever likes to feel sick. And so when we do we need things to go smooth and easy and that is exactly my experience at Idaho Minor Emergency and Family Practice. Friendly and helpful staff and a clean and beautiful environment. Oh, and no appointment needed!

One of the finest doctors there is!

I've read the 1 star reviews and a theme runs through all of those reviews - chronic pain, cry-babies, and those trying to get more narcotics from anyone who will give it to them! Well new readers please understand that NO upstanding doctor would DARE in this day and age, prescribe NARCOTICS to ANY patient they've only seen for the FIRST TIME! That's a quick way to lose your license to practice medicine! If these people would LISTEN to Dr. Hoofts instead of stomping your feet when he surmises that in front of him is a person in chronic pain who refuses to listen and ALREADY seems to know just what Dr. Hoofts can do for them, . . . write them yet another script for NARCOTICS! Well I'm sorry to tell them, THIS fine, intelligent, capable doctor is NEVER going to fall for that!

I have had surgery from Dr. Hoofts and my wife and I trust him completely! He has correctly diagnosed every ailment, injury and complaint that we have ever taken to him. We couldn't be more pleased by the kindness and most importantly his vast knowledge of the human body and we HEARTILY recommend this SUPERB doctor!

Least amount if service for most amount of money

We will never come back to Idaho minor emergency. Poor service, miss diagnosed my wife, didn't even do a blood draw w/labs. Waist of time and money. Thanks for helping us decide whether to come there again or not (we've been there twice).

After the way Dr. Hooft treated me I wouldn't even give one star!!

I was referred to Dr. Hooft for severe chronic pain. The staff and nurses were very friendly and thorough. I got right into a room with no waiting time on a Friday afternoon. I waited for Dr. Hooft for about 5 min. He greeted me when he came in, shook my hand, asked me if he had seen me before, I said no. He read what the nurse had wrote. When I said that I was there for pain he looked up my prescription records and accusingly asked me why it was that it had been a while since I had been prescribed pain meds but yet I was still taking them? Got up said he WOULD NOT help me and asked me to leave his office NOW!!!! I cried all the way home. I'm just sick over the way that man has treated me. I would rather not take narcotics and have tried everything else from massage, chiropractic care, herbs, non narcotic pain meds, hypnosis, been seen by my family doc several times and acupuncture trying to get through this pain. Unfortunately nothing helps. I see an orthopedic specialist next week after waiting a month and a half to get in and my family has asked me to get some some prescription pain meds because they are hurting and tired of seeing me cry all day everyday in pain. I have been trying to do without them, gone several days without or days where I've taken one or two. I went because my family asked me to. And after I got my referral for Dr. Hooft I did some research on him and found a very disturbing article about him on Redorbit dot com which made him out to seem as though he was a very selfish man an put himself before his family. I decided not to judge and went anyway, only for him to judge me within 3 minutes or less and kick me out of his office and treat me as though I was dirt.

I would not refer my worst enemy to this man.

Save your time and money

Just got home from a visit to IME and was very dissapointed with the experience. Front office help was nice other than the fact that they are not part of my insurance network- The Dr. (Only one dr on staff) has a rude and "I will just give you an antibiotic that might help" attitude. He didn't care and didn't even see me for more than 5 minutes- just sat there and read everything the nurse had written. It was a total waste of time an money. I will not go back and hope too find a better place next knee! Don't waste your time!

Dr. Hooft and his staff are amazing. If you have a minor emergency, this is the place to go! They are very kind, caring and take the time to insure proper care to all their patients. They are very good with children too! Our family has been going to this clinic for years now and never once have we been disappointed in the care we've received. I appreciate all they do! Thankful too they are open late and on holidays! Thank you Dr. Hooft for always taking good care of my family! ~

Dr. Hooft is an instinctive doctor. In the many years he has been my physician, he has been unerringly accurate in his diagnoses, treatment, referrals and medications. He seems to have a sixth sense about his patients and responds accordingly. Several members of my family are also his patients and feel the same way as I. It is clear that Dr. Hooft is a doctor of vocation - not for any other reason. I have complete trust and confidence in his care, and I have been under the care of some of the best doctors in the world in Los Angeles, the UK, San Francisco and New York. Idaho is very lucky to have such a physician.

This last Sunday I've spend two hours of my life waiting to be seen (I was bleeding/minor cut/but it's was a minor emergency) by a doctor in this place. When the doctor came, I expressed to the doctor my dissatisfaction (no bad words, no yelling) with the wait time. He didn't care about that. His only say was, "I see people by the order." Obviously, he should revisit the name "Minor emergency" in the title of the office because "triage" would be necessary. He was annoyed with my comments and suggestion to have second provider there since he stated they were "extremely" busy. He was not professional: after stitching my cut, he left the room without saying a word. I expected more style from an educated person.

I have no problems with other staff who did their duties and even checked on me while I was waiting (I needed frequent change of dressing since my wound kept bleeding through). I believe the person who calls the shot was not up to it.

I will never go back there.

Dr. Hooft is one of Boise's best GP's despite the negative comments written. He has

an exceptional medical knowledge for family practice plus years of experience. He has

diagnosed illnesses for my family that the "status specialists" missed by a mile. Don't

count out this doctor or his PA, Katie. She's better than most Boise MDs.

Prior to finding this clinic I...

Prior to finding this clinic I was a patient at Primary Health for 10 years. I didn't realize how bad it was at primary health until finding Dr. Hooft at Idaho Minor Emergency.

I read the other comments, and can't understand why these individuals had such a bad experience. I have been going to Idaho Minor Emergency for the past 4 years and think they are one of the very best walk-in clinics in the valley. They've always been polite since my first visit. They listen to what I say and I get to play a role in my treatment, where at Primary Health there was a high turnover of staff and I felt more like a number.

One of the many things I appreciate about Dr. Hooft is his thoroughness and consideration for the patient. When I went to Primary Health they would prescribe extremely small doses of medications, and would not provide refills. In addition, they would keep visits extremely brief, and the Doctors seemed green.

Dr. Hooft is a seasoned professional. He owns the clinic so he cares a lot how people are treated. Recently I had an infection, and Dr. Hooft gave me a refill on my Z-Pak, so if the infection didnt go away, I could continue to treat the problem without another visit. At Primary Health they would never give anything above the minimum.

I will admit that I like Dr. Hooft much better than my wife. She thinks he is great too, but she wants a lot more details and information, where I'm content knowing there is a plan for my treatment, and if questions arise I can call and someone will call me back the same day.

I've referred a lot of my friends here and overall their experiences have been positive too.

Really?

I went to this clinic twice. The first time I received no help but was promised the doctor would review my notes and get back to me. A month later, I called the office and the staff told me that it was on his desk for review and I needed to return for follow-up. I returned to see the NP who spent five minutes reviewing notes and then referred me to another doctor. I spent $180 for a referral. WOW. If you need help then I suggest you find another place.

For the love of money

I was a patient here seeing the doctor for depression and anxiety, and while the doctor was a nice enough guy, he seemed like he didn't really understand what was going on with me, and didn't seem to want to know the underlying reason for my problems. I was juggled between a few medications which didn't seem to work, and only after my 5th or so visit did I get the whole picture. It's all about money.

Whether it's the HMO's telling the doctors to not spend more than 15 minutes with each patient, or just a general lack of enthusiasm overall this building was a place I dreaded going back to more and more.

I would like to make it plain as well that the all the receptionists I had to deal with, especially one, were very cold or uninterested. When your job is to greet people who are sick, heck when your job is to greet and deal with people before they are allowed to even glimpse the doctor, a certain level of transaction interaction skills are needed. Sadly none of these receptionists seem to possess this quality.

When I called in for prescription refills they were always delayed by hours or days, as if they couldn't care; even when I called to get a referral faxed to a therapist for my increasingly severe depression, I had to call back 3 times to get it sent over.

I would also like to point out that visits that pertaining to a new issue are charged at full rate, and followups are half price, the receptionists will fight you tooth and nail to get you to pay the full rate (which happened with me all 4/5 visits for depression), especially if you have questions to the doctor not related to the current issue he has 15 minutes for.

BEWARE of this establishment, I guess it's decent enough if you have a one time visit minor emergency, but by and large this is a dock in the box, and I would recommend any random one of those over this.

Overall
very cold and not caring doctor

I recently was a patient. The nursing, receptionist, and PA were all very nice and helpful. However, the bad review is mainly for the doctor. I went into the clinic with chest pains, high blood pressure, having nitroglycerin take the chest pain away, and other signs of heart problems. He came in the room and never introduce himself. He hardly even looked up from the computer. He dismissed my concerns as being lazy, not motivated, having reflux and being overweight. He suggested I join a gym and lose weight. The way he was so cold and uncaring floored me. It was a 30 minute session of how can I make her cry more, which did nothing for me to lower my blood pressure. I am also in the healthcare field and I am no idiot. I do realize I need to lose weight, however it does not excuse the fact that I needed some assistance that day. I hope that if some else is treating this way as well that they will find a second opion. I went to a cardiologist the next day and I do have heart problems. I am glad that I did not just take his advice and join a gym and instead got a second opinion. I will soon be loosing weight to lower my risk factors for heart attack and stroke.
