This FAKE "humane society" employs Gestapo Raids on Private shelters/rescues in order to put them 'out of business'. These PRIVATE shelters/rescues do the important work that LHS WILL NOT DO. The PRIVATE shelters/rescues care for animals that LHS WILL NOT CARE FOR. The PRIVATE shelters/rescues are run completely by UNPAID VOLUNTEERS, while LHS personnel are well PAID for the paltry work that they do. NO ONE, including organizations like @ASPCA should donate 1 CENT to this criminal and corrupt organization, until and unless they STOP the continuous HARASSMENT of Private Shelters/Rescues. I have seen their RAIDS, where they confiscate animals from shelters, and take them from a 'home like' environment & stick them in some small CAGE. Many don't even get that ... they are EUTHANIZED! In all my years as a caring Animal Loving Person, I've never come across an organization which is as CORRUPT and CRIMINAL (in the way in which they attack people who are trying their level best to HELP animals) as Lake Humane Society. PLEASE .. DO NOT CONTRIBUTE to them UNLESS and UNTIL they STOP Attacking small private shelters/rescues. They SHOULD be extending whatever help they can to these small shelters, NOT harassing them with Gestapo Police Raids!

My healthy, beloved year old Border Collie, named Chase was illegally seized when I reported the man behind me, John Ricker of constantly screaming profanities at his own dog and my Chase. Even after I bought no-bark collars for my 2 dogs Mr. Ricker's verbal abuse continued. The last straw came when he began throwing stones at Chase.

I called The Lake Humane Society and Leanne Pike told me it was "No big deal!"
Next, I called the Mentor Police Dept. And asked them to merely ask this disturbed man to leave Chase alone.

The next day I came home from shopping only to find Leanne Pike and Officer Jeff Greco parked behind her! I was in shock to say the least. They said they needed to talk to me inside (I had left Chase Andy other dog inside for their own safety).

I was always taught to comply with a police officer's request but now I wish I hadn't. Leanne Pike came in along with Officer Greco and immediately started waving a p as paper in my face, stating that I had to sign the surrender papers from The Lake Humane Society or else her and Officer Greco were going "to take Chase anyway".

When I asked them why I has to sign the surrender papers ( not court-ordered papers ) I received no response only Leanne Pike threatening me again stating "that they were going to take Chase anyway!)

Out of fear of being bogusly arrested for not complying with Officer Greco, I signed the papers under duress and against my will.

I have now found out from several attorneys that my rights were severely violated. First of all, because I signed under threats and duress that makes the surrender papers null and void. Secondly, Officer Greco broke the law when he and Leanne Pike seized Chase without a warrant signed by a judge!!!

After visiting Chase several times, Lee Nester took me outside of the building and threatened to "call the cops" on Mr if I continued to visit Chase. I had no choice but to leave because I have another beloved dog at home to take care of.

Chase was illegally seized in mid-August of last year, 2016. I was told by several lawyers that even though Chase's and my own civil rights were severely violsted, I would have little hope of regaining custody of Chase since The Lake Humane Society was such an old institution in town.

I renained quiet about the whole incident until late December of 2016 when Leanne Pike drove over my lawn leaving tire tracks and deposited Chase's valid rabies tag and ID tag on my mailbox which is attached to my house. That was just too cruel and too much!

I posted the details of these terrible, illegal incidents on my next door neighbor app. Unfortunately, I was told by several neighbors that I was tarnishing the reputation of the neighborhood. Also, "that they stick to themselves and like it that way!" I truly hope nothing illegal and wrong is ever done to them. The neighborhood is full of people who have dogs and cats as pets and are "part of their family".

So, I was truly shocked and disappointed in the negative reactions of most of my neihhbors. The lack of empathy and coldness towards what was done to me and my beloved dog, Chase was truly shocking and still is...I guess it is unfortunately a "sign of the times". People just don't care and don't want to be bothered unless it happens to them!

Yesterday, I went to retrieve my empty trash can. Laying next to it, folded sloppily was Chase's blanket from his time at The Laker Humane Society. I posted about this incident on next door and received very negative insulting comments. I told them that they did not have to read my posts, that they had the option of "muting" my posts. However, it is my constitutional right to post about any illegal activities and/or harrassment!!!

The Lake Humane Society is a good institution; however, it is run by persons such as Leanne Pike and Lee Nesler who act illegally, could care less about the animals and have no business running an animal shelter. Patricia Nowak

I adopted a 3 month old kitten and it died three weeks later of suspected FIP now I'm worried about my other cat that's 2 and they where rude to me saying my cat gave her this . If you adopted from anywhere make sure you get a complete blood work done at your vet before you introduced them to your other cat .

This once proud establishment has fallen into decay over the past few years as it seem all but a few of it's employees really care about what they're doing. Information is scarce and it seems the employees in the back don't know what happens to the animals once they go up front and vice verse. They don't spend enough one on one time with the animals or the people and the whole system seems like it could do with some reconstruction
