Walk in the footsteps of the King of Rock 'n' Roll at Elvis Presley's beloved home, Graceland Mansion. Tours of the mansion, Elvis Presley Car Museum, Elvis' custom jets and other special exhibits are available. Graceland plaza also features restaurants and shopping. I've been to Graceland 6 times since the early 90's. The house tour itself is great and I love how the inside hasn't been touch at all. It is such a good tour. The audio recordings really put you in the mood.
The only major downfall to visiting Graceland is when you go into the "extra" tours is the RIDICULOUS way they shove the souvenir shops are shoved down your throat because you need to exit through them. I know that they sold all the rights to marketing or something like that a few years back, but it REALLY takes the spirit out of the trip. Maybe more so for me because I had visited before the merchandising explosion happened. The visit was more about the experience of Elvis than how much money they could get out of you.
If you are a fan it is a great place to go, Just don't be shocked at their non stop attempt to increase the national debt. -

Graceland is amazing. If youve never been there than you really need to go. You get to actually see how elvis lived and its really cool. Everything is 100% authentic and you kinda feel like the king yourself as you walk through the mansion. The Platinum tour is great since you get to see the inside of his plane too. I used a 2 for 1 Graceland Coupon so I only ended up paying $35 for 2 platinum tours instead of the normal price of $70. I got my discount from a website for .75 cents so it was well well worth the price. If you would like to save some money too and get the same 2 for 1 Graceland Coupon just type the word PICounts into google to be take to the same place I got my discount from. Hope this helps.

Avoid Graceland's Parking Lot!

Avoid the parking lot at Graceland like the plague. If you can't find free parking on the street, you can find a nearby commercial lot that charges much less than the $8 fee at the Graceland lot. All the Graceland prices have gone up since the Presley family sold the property, but parking is the biggest ripoff.

Wonderful
I resolved to go to Graceland after two co-workers talked about going there during a flight layover (it was closed and they only got to look through the gate.) I scheduled an early morning flight into Memphis (to start an evening cross-country train trip.) The cab ride from the airport is very short and there were property lockers at the ticketing center for my luggage. I spent all day touring the mansion, the grounds, the museums, the airplanes, had lunch at the visitor center restaurant across the street, carefully chose the perfect souvenir (XXL T-shirt for a night shirt with a large glittery image of Graceland on the front -- of course) and finally, bought a postcard and mailed it from the Graceland post office to a good friend and Elvis fan. Graceland is one of those things you should see, whether you are an Elvis fan or not. It was worth every penny and every minute spent there.

Don't need a tour

Did you know you can get married at Graceland?, We did! Well, there is a little chapel behind the mansion where we held the ceremony. We even got to take our wedding photos on the mansion steps and front yard. Usually they only let a few people to be involved in the photo sessions, because of the tourists, but since they were decorating for christmas, the mansion was closed and everyone got to join in. The only problems were the time constraints to get ready and no changing room for the groom or groomsmen. The Rev sort of rushed through our vows b/c I went over the time allowed to get ready. Apparently they had booked a baptism right after our wedding... If I had known it would have taken me so long, I would have had my hair done before I got there!

A great kitsch experience

I lived in Memphis for five years, and always brought family and visitors to Graceland. It's the ultimate camp, kitsch experience. The museum with trophies, awards and costumes IS very impressive, as a display of Elvis's impact. You can't really take Graceland really seriously, although the tour guides take it VERY seriously, almost reverentially, which makes it even more fun! Just don't make fun of it when the faithful come for ""Dead Elvis Week"".

Of all the possible scenic and historical road trips in the U.S. I would put a trip to Graceland near the bottom. Why isn't Mt. Rusmore and the Black Hills; Yellowstone, Glacier and Yosemite National Parks; the Blue Ridge Pkwy.; the North Shore of Lake Superior; the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kittyhawk; Williamsburg, VA - to name just a few - . . . why aren't they on the list? The author's list is mighty shallow.

For any Elvis fan

This is a truely awesome place. It was smaller than I thought, and the decor was odd to someone who missed the 70's, but it was interesting to see what was cool back then. I made my first trip on the anniversary of his death, so there were thousands of people. Even so, it was still a moving experience. The accompaning monologue is full of information and it's nice to see up close the what a wonderful person Elvis was. As you move through the house, you can almost feel the memories. The staff seemed not to care where they worked, I would definitely recommend hiring Elvis fans, not teeny-boppers who don't know/care who he was. If you're not an Elvis fan, avoid the beginning of January and the middle of August.

When walking through the rooms and tiny hallways of Graceland, your imagination conjures up Elvis having intimate parties in the den... playing solemn piano music when he was feeling sentimental.... and I swear you can see him in the kitchen rounding up a midnight snack. The house, although dated and worn and always crowded with hundreds of people, still manages to feel warm... it feels like a ""home."" The only thing negative about Graceland was the tour employees. They were basically very unfriendly and some were blatantly obnoxious. And funnily enough, they seemed completely indifferent to Elvis Presley. I personally think they should hire dedicated fans to host the tours... (they'd not have trouble finding qualified applicants!) p.s. GO EARLY!!!!! (you'll be soooo glad you did)

Viewing Graceland is a must for all Americans. I have been there twice and will go again soon. There is something new to see everytime you go. If people think it is tacky, then they didn't truly live in the 70's. The decor is the best part or the tour. It is what Elvis liked, not what hollywood expected. That's a real man, and a real human being. The awards for his generosity are awe inspiring. Two thumbs up and 5 stars.

Graceland offers a glimpse into the life of a man who still holds a special place in the heart of many people around the world. In addition to the mansion, the buildings behind the house display Elvis' many honors and tributes. Elvis was a philanthropist who never forgot from where he came. He was generous and kind, and it's sad that he met a shameful demise. This is a piece of Americana that should not be missed.

I had a fantastic experience visiting Graceland. After discovering what a truly wonderful human being Elvis was, I became a true fan. Everyone says the decor in the mansion is tacky... well it was the style in the 60's and 70's!!! It was no more unusual back then the black lights and lava lamps. Even his now considered tacky costumes were the rage back then. Seveal artists copied his costumes in that time, such as The Jackson Five. My point is, don't dismiss going to the mansion just because someone called it tacky. It is truly a highly organized and heartful experience.

Though never huge Elvis fans, we were reminded what a huge presence he was/is in American pop culture. The house is smaller than we imagined and, oh yeah, tacky! The tour is pricey, but well put together (after you get out of the ""welcome center,"" which was poorly organized by blase employees). I dare anyone to not feel touched at the Memorial Garden. It was a wonderful walk through the past, and it shouldn't be missed.

and mysterious. For those that have never toured or experienced Graceland, you gotta at least experience it. If you don't like your experience, don't go back. However, if you do enjoy your experience, then tell others of it. I find Graceland truly amazing and to know that Elvis once lived there with all those people around him that loved and cared about him. The safari room is a one of a kind. Linger there and you can almost feel all the energy that once abounded inside Graceland.

The whole complex was worth it. Fair warning - pay VERY close attention to the tour numbers for line-up. The mansion was, as another reviewer said, incredibly tacky for the better part, but remember it was the 70's! The exhibits were interesting and the audio tour was very informative. The automobile museum was a lot of fun and the Sincerly Elvis exhibit was a little step back in time. The airplanes were worth the visit and you should stop in the shake shop to play with the jukebox and cool down. I could have done without what seemed to be the 800 gift shops, but hey they're trying to make money!

I am not a huge Elvis fan, but when we were recently in the Memphis area, we figured we should go see Graceland. It's much smaller than I had imagined, but on the tacky scale, it's through the roof. I have never seen so much shag carpet, crushed velvet upholstery and ugly overwrought lamps and tables as there are in just the Jungle room alone. But, we went with the idea that it would be tacky fun and that the people-watching would be fun as well. We were not disappointed on either count. Go to see it once in your life, and don't take it too seriously.

Everyone in Memphis has a spirit that of Elvis is still alive. You can really feel it at Graceland. If you are a true Elvis fan...you must visit soon. The best thing to do is visit his home...learn about his styles and unique lifestyle then go to his car museum(close by) and see one of his true loves(automobiles). He has a great collection. Then...top it off by eating at his restaraunt downtown and eat his favorite recipies(fried peanut butter/banana sandwhich,fried pickles, and banana pudding). Then you can take home souveniors fom his gift shop in the restaraunt! PERFECT!
