Car Accident Aftermath »
No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.

All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
Came in here one Saturday, ( one of the only good mechanics open on Saturday). My car was making a really obnoxious noise that had gone from bad to worse. About 10 a.m. that day my car's lights started to flicker. Fortunately for me, I was able to get on this website and discover Bartlett Automotive. Before this I had called another well-known Memphis mechanic shop. They suggested that it could be my alternator and quoted me a seriously ridiculous fee over the phone. I won't say the name of this place, but, it starts with a G. Their price seemed way over the top, so I started to explore my options. Obviously it was important to find a place that is open on Saturdays. At this point I started exploring my options and just happened upon Bartlett Automotive. I called and they seemed really nice and professional on the phone. This helped when I decided to try them out. Turns out that I was just able to make it there before my alternator gave out. Kenny ( the owner), and his wife (Micky) were as nice as could be and I could sense that all they wanted to do was help me get back on the road. If that wasn't enough Kenny quoted me a price, part and all, that was less than half of that other place. Needless to say, I was extremely glad that I was able to find this shop, and in the future, I will not hesitate to take my car issues to Bartlett Automotive. In this day and age, it's really nice to find someone that you can trust with your vehicle.
Finally a trustworthy mechanic! I have the worst luck trying to find one but not today. I went to three different places to put on a power steering hose that I already had in my hand. Yes, a power steering hose, simple right? The three places I went to all got on their happy computer to look up some magical program that gives them an estimated time to put parts on a car. I forget the program name but they all said, 2 1/2 to 4 hour job and $250-$400 estimate, yes for a hose install. I told them where they could shove that hose! I decided to stop into Bartlett auto and I could tell right away these guyz meant business and not scam thy customer. They put the part on and oil change for very reasonable price. A salesman came in to sell his company's "parts business"(a company that sells parts to repair shops) and the owner explained that he has two different customers, ones that can(Bartlett) afford the warranty parts and one's that can't(Frayser) and he lets them decide what to choose from which is awesome, most would try to up sell you the warranty parts even if you are poor like me. They just got a new customer and I would recommend to a friend!
I called my friend and she gave me this persons phone number and the mand that answered that phone was very professional. I have a 99 ford escort and my a/c went out in my car well needless to say I took it to ford and they were attempting to charge me 1200.00 for parts and labor I needed a ac line, condensor, evaportor core. Well I told ford that I wanted my car back and thats when my friend said I have a great mechanic I was afraid at first then I called him yes he charged me 50.00 because he needed to make sure that he would not be give free advise and after that he stated that the 50.00 would be refunded back to me after the work was completed. Well today is the June 24 and my a/c feels like alaska its so cool that I have to turn it on 1 in 90 degree weather now I would tell anyone that this company is on point and I will use KINCHEN'S AUTO SERVICE AGAIN AND AGAIN by the way the cost was 650.00 parts and labor half of what the dealer charged also he gave me all my old parts now what do I do with them.......LOL Thank you Waymon your the greatest..............Ms. l.johnson
If you have a foreign (or domestic) vehicle that you love & value, and you're looking for the best quality mechanic in Memphis, then this REALLY is the only review you need to read! Before I took my LandRover to Shane, Nick,& the other guys at Midtown Autowerks, I had mechanical issues that lasted for a ridiculous time period of 6 weeks! I thought I would save $ by letting other mechanics address my overheating issues. A few mechanics and $850.00 (of wasted money) later, I decided it was time to turn my wheel over to someone who really knows what they're doing! They were so professional,& reassuring:) after a very stressful 6 weeks, I left my vehicle there with a feeling of trust in their mechanic abilities. And my instincts were correct! Not only did they repair my blown head gaskets, but they also cleaned the stop-leak gunk from my radiator and hoses. Apparently someone had put it in there prior to me purchasing the vehicle. In just a few days, Shane and his team got me & my daughter back on the road!:D I will never let anyone else under my hood!!! Thankyou so much Shane!!!
WENT TO RANDO'S ON A FRIDAY TO CORRECT A COLOR AND HAIRCUT THAT I GOT THE DAY BEFORE THERE. I WAS GLAD TO SEE THAT BRENDA WAS BACK. SHE DID A WONDERFUL JOB ON MY HAIR. DON'T BE FOOLED BY WHAT THE OTHER STYLIST ARE WRITING ABOUT HER BECAUSE SHE HAD TO "FIRE THEM" PER RANDO. THEY ARE STILL HOSTILE. (GROW UP...YOU WERE NOT GOOD STYLIST ANYWAY, RUDE, LOUD LIKE A CIRCUS, AND STORE IS NOT AS CLEAN AS IT USE TO BE NOR IS IT EVER OPENED ON TIME) UNFORTUNATELY RANDO FELT SORRY FOR A FEW OF THOSE STYLIST AND BROUGHT THEM BACK. BET HE REGRETS IT BECAUSE HE'S NOT MAKING MONEY LIKE HE USE TO BECAUSE HIS STYLIST ARE STEALING FROM RIGHT UNDER HIS NOSE. MOST OF THEM ARE ON DRUGS. RANDO WHEN WILL YOU WAKE UP? THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A BUSINESS RUN IT LIKE ONE. LOOK AT ALL THE MONEY YOU ARE LOSING. I WILL ONLY COME IN WHEN "BRENDA" IS THERE WHICH IS ON FRIDAYS. THANKS BRENDA FOR THE WONDERFUL JOB YOU'VE DONE. YOUR WERE PROFESSIONAL, NICE AND KNEW HER JOB. SHOW THE OTHER STYLIST HOW TO DO HAIR AND HOW TO GET SOME CLASS ABOUT THEMSELVES.
We were about to make a cash purchase of a Lexus LS460L that was very attractive and appeared well taken care of. The owner of the vehicle had been an avid Elite customer and we mutually agreed to drop off the vehicle with Elite Automotive to have a pre-purchase inspection performed. I agreed to pay for the inspection and communicated to the seller that I would communicate with Elite Automotive myself about the inspection. Several hours after the vehicle was dropped off I received a call from Elite. The company owner personally contacted me to advise me that the vehicle had significant sub-frame damage. This damage was only visible as the result of an extensive inspection not normally consider part of a pre-purchase inspection. We have nothing but gratitude to the staff of Elite for their integrity, and for placing their reputation above all else. We have since become devoted and satisfied customers. Elite Automotive has extremely well qualified technicians, that you can trust with your high end vehicle needs.
PRO's: Great Location in East Memphis, fairly easy to find. The salon is super nice on the inside, very upscale. Reminiscent of a trendy NYC salon inside. Great color schemes and decor. * Very happy with salon/spa services. Staff friendly, professional and courteous. CON's: The 1 hour wait before receiving services. I sat in the waiting room for what seemed to be an eternity before having my hair done, then after I was finally called to the back, I was seated in another waiting area and noticed about 10 other people sitting under dryers, etc. I think they should space appointments out a little further so clients don't feel like they're being rushed out once they make it to the stylists chair. From what I understand the location is new and has not been open long, so I will give them another shot, perhaps they're still working the kinks out of scheduling, etc. * I will return again, but if I have to wait long before seeing a stylist/technician, I will go elsewhere.
Simply put......Epiphany Salon & Gallery is awesome! The ambiance is amazing. Everyone is so friendly and bubbly and to watch them work is wonderful. Haircutting, highlights, silk pressing, relaxers, etc. You name it, they do it and the shop is so diverse. Black, white, green or yellow....doesn't matter what color you are, if you have hair, they'll do it! :-) My personal experience with hair stylist Angie was amazing! This was my first visit to the salon and even though she graciously took me at the last minute on Valentine's' Day weekend she got me in and out. She explained everything that she was doing to my hair, she explained areas that needed improvement and she explained to me, her method of doing a silk press before and during the process. I will definitely be a regular moving forward and if you are having second thoughts about going to Epiphany Hair & Gallery or going somewhere else-choose Epiphany! My hair is LAID and yours can be too! BOOK ANGIE!
Lost my previous stylist to retirement. Decided to return to my roots and searched for a neighborhood male tonsorial master, like Red's Barbershop in the Normal/Buntyn neighborhood growing up near Memphis State before it became University of Memphis and flattened Red's old place into a parking lot. But I digress. Did a web search and realized I have been driving by Blackstone's current location since the 1980's and never noticed. So I gave Mr. Blackstone a try. He did not chop my hair, but deftly clipped and trimmed, quickly and efficiently and hot lather/straight razor trim. Reasonable price of $16, did not have time for a full package of shampoo, cut, shave and trim beard similarly priced, but plan to. The experience was as I expected. Mr. Blackstone is a Master of not only tonsorial arts, but a personable conversationalist, w/a mature eclectic taste in music.
I recently used Kinchen's Auto about a week ago. I must say they did an Excellent job on my car!!!!!!! Waymon was always up front with me and let me knew the prices and details before hand. It only took him 2 days to remove and install a new engine into my car and it only took that long due to the weather, other than that I really believe he could have done it in one day!!!! I also like the fact that he can do all this right at your house, so I didn't have to pay expensive towing fees to have the car towed to a shop or anything!!!!! They were very nice and professional at all times and never hesitated to answer the phone when I called, he even does follow up calls to make sure the car is still running fine. I can surely say that when the job was finished I was VERY satisfied and Happy!!!!!! Thanx Kinchen's Auto for putting me back on the road again!!!!!!! :-)
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
