I have never had such an odd experience as I had in this store. Was there at 10;45 on Thursday, Oct 23 2014, and after my experience I believe that this should be a internet only store. I walked in, was never acknowledged at any point and was alone in the front of the store. I walked around the front part of the store for 10 minutes, then decided to walk into the back half and see if it was abandoned. There were two guys , looked to be over middle age, at a desk in the back with their backs to the store, one was on the computer while the other one was giving him moral support. I walked by them twice while looking at small bore rifles and still was never acknowledged, as a matter of fact in 15 minutes they neither turned around , said hello, or offered any help. ( I was the only one in the store), after standing in front of the handguns ( I had a question to ask) for another 5 minutes I finally decided to leave. I walked out, but held the door slightly open as I left to look back in, Yup they were still at the back of their store with their back to me, and still not so much as a peep. So I drove to Melbourne, to a gun store on Wickham and found a very nice store owner who helped me and I purchased a new handgun that day. Maybe ignoring a single sale wont hurt this store, but if that's the case.... why would anyone want to shop there ? If I want to watch two old guys drinking coffee, I go to Wickham Park, not to a gun shop.

Overall

If you are concealed weapons permit holder and are carrying, you will be asked to disarm before going into this store. This makes no sense to me. Obviously, they can run their business however they would like but I don't think it's a good idea to alienate (what could be) a large part of your customer base.

There are a couple of reasons why this policy makes no sense:

1.) As a concealed weapons permit holder, one must pass background checks and prove that they are not and never have been, a criminal.

2.) Concealed means CONCEALED. Were it not for my honesty, no one would have ever known I even had a weapon on me. The salesperson mentioned something about almost being accidentally shot but then if some idiot pulled out his concealed gun, it wouldn't have been concealed anymore, would it?

3.) By asking people to disarm, the shop and its employees are basically asking you to put your trust in them to protect you in the unlikely event someone were to walk in and rob the place. No offense to anyone who works in that shop but I trust me.

The shop looks nice and the people seem nice. I can't speak to their prices because I didn't last in there that long but I'll not spend money in a place that does not want me. This policy is wrong and should be reconsidered. Now, more than ever, all gun owners must stand together and when we are demonizing others within our own group it just gives more leverage to those that are working hard to take our rights away from us. Concealed carry should be encouraged but it should also remain concealed - don't alienate your customers!!!!

We had to change our policy about carrying loaded firearms after we had not one but TWO people have accidental discharges from their weapons! We only ask that you take the magazine out and make sure there is not a round in the chamber. It is funny that Police officers off duty don't complain about this only civilians.

Price gouging at its finest

I am so tired of places like the shooters den jacking up the prices on things due to a tragedy it's nothing but pure GREED and I for one think it's in really poor taste to double and triple your prices because of the tragedy in Connecticut I can't believe the owners are trying to fatten there wallets when hundreds of families are destroyed

I beg the pardon of the YPmobile, as they really have no idea of current ammo prices. Our ammo prices are limited to our standard mark up that currently is well under 35% over cost. It is our position that when other shops do not have ammo, and our wholesale vendors do not have ammo; we go to extreme measures to get ammo for our customers. Lately we have to pay premium prices in order to provide ammo.

This is the best place to shop! Eventhough i am an novice they never made me feel stupid. They are so polite and kind and very knowledgable. They take their time to explain the product to you. They are very light hearted and have a great sense of humor. I made a mistake on my paper work and they were so kind about it. I came back in and they made a simple fix all the while apologizing as if it was their fault. I will shop no where else. All I can say id thank you very much. I always feel better leaving your store than when I came in. I love a good laugh. Please keep up the good work. Thank you!

This is the best place around to shop for a gun and ammo!! The prices are very reasonable and for the staff, well you cannot ask for more polite and respectful employees and owners. We have bought several guns and so have other members of my family and lots of family friends. They all said the same thing prices are great and servce is outstanding. They also help with gun repair, a family friend was well pleased with the service that they received. Not to mention that you can walk through the store freely and handle any gun you want. It is a one of a kind Gun Store. Thanks Mike and Debbie and your awesome employees for great service and a great experience in shopping for weapons.

Sincerely,

A Loyal and Faithful Customer for Life,

I've been into Shooters Den on...

I've been into Shooters Den on more then one occasion and I have to say the place is a waste of time. While the owners are nice and the staff fairly pleasant, their prices are flat out obscene. He can often be heard touting "discounts" for one item or another, but don't believe it, its flat out bull crap, sadly enough. As of today, 3 August 2012, he's got a Colt LE6920 retailing for over 1500.00, a KAC SR15 Mod 0 he's attempting to get for over 2,300.00(A mod 0 won't be found on the KAC website as it's an older rifle, not the E3 variant you'll find), an Arsenal SGL21 non-folder for 1,200.00 (I bought mine last year for 499.00, Thanks, K-Var Inc), and if your not convinced yet, just look at his ammo. ROFL. I almost spoke up but it wouldn't do any good. If you want "fair" prices, take a gander at his Federal Red Box 9mm 115 grain FMJ's..... 50 rounds for.....22.00 bucks. Almost twice the price of every surrounding store. Don't worry though. If you go in, I have no doubt you'll be offered some sort of discount (Thats actually lubricant being slathered on your rectum). Mike, your a personable guy but start giving folks a fair shake. I simply cannot afford to patronize you when you do this stuff. I can literally buy my ammunition from you local competition, resell it, and still be under 22.00 dollars a box. The "I'm a storefront, I've got overhead" excuse doesn't do it for me, Theres close to a half-dozen gunshops in the area, your the most expensive. :/

Tom, You forgot to mention that each of the guns that you listed as being over priced (and I agree) are NOT the Shooters Den stock but CONSIGNMENT Guns from other customers that I have no control over their pricing. Each consignment gun is appropriately tagged with tags that Do NOT even resemble our tags. AS for the ammo sorry, but, it is what it is, every business is entitled to have a reasonable profit on its items. We choose to sell OUR guns at a lower percentage & try to keep the ammo within the national average, but we can not compete with WALMART on AMMO prices. Overhead and profit varies for everything, but we gotta keep the lights on.

You will not find a better place to buy a firearm. The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable and honest. I always feel at home there. Never ever pressured to buy anything and was always shot straight(no pun intended). I wont shop anywhere else. Mike and Debbie care about their customers and their community and will take you shooting. As for negative feedback I cant see where anyone could get that.

WHAT customer service?

I was completely ignored after the salesman helping me just walked away and started helping another customer. The owner/manager, a large gray haired fella, sitting at a table in the middle of the showroom scarfing down a subway sub, not even taking a breath to do anymore than eat his precious sandwich. Told the salesman that I wanted them to order me a firearm. NOTHING. So I decide to leave and let one of the salesmen know that I wasnt happy, only to receive a verbal whiplash from him which included him telling me to "Just take my *ss on out that door." I have never in my life been treated so badly by someone I was trying to give my hard earned money to so they could make a sale and put food on their table. So I walked out, drove to another shop and purchased the firearm. Never shop here unless you like to be treated like scum.

We are sorry you felt slighted, but the whole premise of our store is to let you do your thing while looking around. We try to explain this to everyone who comes through the door, but sometimes folks don't get greeted. We have 3 "rules" for customers: 1) Make yourself at home. 2) Go anywhere and feel free to handle our merchandise, and 3) If and when you need help ask, as we don't hound dog customers. As for the rest of your complaint If you let me know who the person who gave you a tongue lashing; I will surely correct the problem, as we will not tolerate acting like that in my store.

Mike and his employees are the best I have ever dealt with...I am 87, been shooting rifles over 70-years, taught skeet shooting in US Navy for 2-years during WW11, benchrest shooter for 50-years and varmint hunter for 75-years. I stopped in the shop, showed Mike my 700-Rem in 243 Win and asked him to fit a scope. Mike started from the top and worked down to my price-range; I bought it and h took me to his range and watched me fire it for over an hour...no charge. The "Shooters Den" in W. Melbourne should not be missed for gun lovers. They talk to you straight, if you don't like what you hear....try Wal-Mart......fhall6

Excellent customer service. This is the place to go if you are a novice, like me, or even a seasoned firearms owner. They answer all your questions and DON'T make you feel stupid in the process. You can walk around anywhere in the store and pick up any firearm (that isn't holstered), go behind the counters and touch and examine any item for sale in the store. Mike is a wealth of information. His integrity is beyond compare. If he doesn't like a product, he doesn't sell it, but he won't bad-mouth it in the process. He doesn't bad-mouth the competition either. They do business their way, he does his his way. Mike gave me advice on what ammo I should carry for my particular needs, and I agree with his reasoning for the suggestion. Their prices are the lowest in the area, and I really shopped around. No fee for background checks done on firearms purchased in his store. I will shop here for all my firearms needs...no reason to go anywhere else.

The Shooters Den is unlike any other gun stores i've been to. They greet you like family when you come in, and let you handle the guns your are interested in. It's a very relaxed atmosphere, but these guys know their stuff. I've bought 2 guns from them (a sig 2340 and a Smith and Wesson M&P15.) I shopped extensively and made sure I was getting the best deal I could. The Shooters Den was the cheapest by far. I plan on doing some aftermarket work on my Ar15 and know that Mike will either have on hand, or order anything I need.

Bottom line: If you want higher prices, less skilled gunsmiths, and bad customer service, Go somewhere else. You wont get it here.

A woman's gun shop

Most gun shops will not offer a whole lot of assistance to women.. Not this place! Everyone very knowledgable and willing to share and make suggestions. Recently had a shotgun worked on that did not fit me. Their work is extremely good. Older gun that wasn't used much and stiff from new. Got it back and worked smooth as silk. New stocks can sometimes be hard to fit- no trouble for this shop-better than new! Cost?-very reasonable. The parts that had to be ordered took a little longer than expected, but Mike stayed on the suppliers and got it right the first time! Great shop, Reasonable prices! Definitely the "go to" guys in the area.

Heaven for Shooters

The most informative, entertaining and fair firearms store I have ever stepped foot in. You can handle any of the guns (except those in holsters), if you have questions they are quick to help you out. If you want something specific, just ask. If they don't have it they can get it. I have gotten advice on triggers, sights even gotten the dirt on firearms that I thought I wanted and not just because it was an opportunity to make a sale. These guys KNOW THEIR WEAPONS. I am a novice/beginner with firearms and the things I have learned just relaxing and having conversations with the staff has made me a better shooter. The atmosphere in the shop is like hanging out at your best friends house (who happens to have a mess of guns!).

Bottom line- I have been going to The Shooters Den for a while now and for me, there is no reason to go anywhere else for my firearm purchases. You will not be disappointed doing business with Mike and the guys down at "the den".

What a different gun store - in a great way

This is the best gun shop I have ever been in. Prices are great - compares favorably with everywhere I have visited. I have bought several guns from this store, including 2 rifles and 2 pistols in the past several months. I checked out the prices thoroughly and they were the best at shooter's den.

The store's layout is very well thought out and comfortable. The inventory is large, and they will order anything they don't have in stock. Some gunsmithing is offered on site. I have heard them tell some customers that they could get more from their trade in if they tried to sell it via another method, which speaks a lot about honesty.

I go in at least once a week to buy bullets, supplies, or just to visit, and have never heard anyone treated any way other than with curtesy and respect. I think it is a great place to to handle and talk about various guns. The police and sherrif's officers seem to agree because I have seen many of them in on a regular basis.

Overall
Worst gun shop i have ever experienced.

Where to start. Right when i got into the shop i was approached by an employee asking if he could help me. He had no idea what he was talking nor could he answer any questions i had about the hand guns. As i was looking at the guns i saw the owner of the store belittle another customer on the choice of gun he liked. When the employee helping me had to ask the owner a question he could not answer he then proceeded to go off on him telling him it is written down on wall and that he is an idiot. I could not believe this guy acts like this and still has a business that is still open. Toward the end i found a gun i was interested in (( HK USB )) and asked the owner what the best price he could do was. ((btw, the gun was USED he was asking $839, and earlier today i found the same gun online NEW for $750.))

He started off by saying "Price right now, Cash out the door" but i didnt have the full $839 so i told him i could put $200 down and have the rest within the week. He said Alright and gave me the price of $800 ($39 off of a USED gun, for CASH right now) I was very polite to him and thanked him for his time and told him that I would like to shop around at a couple more places to see if i could get a better price.

For some reason this set the man off. He continue to tell me that I had already made a deal with him and how by me saying that i wanted to look at other shops JUST TO SEE if i could get a better price for the gun was somehow "breaking " this imaginary deal he had made 2 seconds prior while i just simply asked what the best price he could do was. He kept going on and on about this deal and told me that this offer would not stand tomorrow if i had decided to come back.

At that point I decided that this store was not the fit for me. I would have not felt comfortable going back and asking questions about the piece or even purchasing accessories for them. Mike tried to pressure me into buying an OVER PRICED USED firearm by his generous discount of $39. But all he really ended up doing was disrespected me and his other client, in front of my wife, daughter, and his other employee.

i recommend this store if you are a masochist and you like to be treated like crap.

I recall this incident and it did happen, but not quite like reported. As anyone who has shopped in our store knows Dusty is a very informed and knowledgeable gun owner/salesman, we do not typically operate like that. This is the most outrageous exaggerations of a bad situations I have ever read. This young man asked for a deal and stated he was ready to buy right then, but did not have all of the money, I offered to honor the price given and told him he could use our free lay away plan. He then stated that he wanted to shop around and I told him then we would renegotiate when he was ready to buy. It is too bad he didn't agree with that stand and I am sorry that I have lost a customer.

First impression

Visited the Melbourne store recently out of curiosity. Was greeted warmly by Mike. I was encouraged to handle any and all merchandise that I might be interested in. No barriers to access to weapons anywhere in the store including behind the counter. Well stocked with guns of all kinds, new and used, including several lefty long guns. A refreshing experience. I picked up a coupla small items, but will return when the need to increase my arsenal hits me again.
