Dental Care
Whether it is gingivitis, tartar build-up, gum disease, or tooth resorption, the impact on your kitty’s overall health could be quite serious. That’s why at Exclusively Cats, we believe in educating our clients about the benefits of maintaining good oral health.
Vaccination
If you're adopting a kitten soon don't forget to bring her in right away for a “New Kitten Exam”! It is important that your kitten be examined by a veterinarian within days of adoption in order to treat any ailments that you may have “adopted” with your kitten and to set up an “individualized for your kitten” vaccination and worming program. You will also learn about how to control destructive play, what the proper diet is to get your kitten off to a good start, and how to introduce your new kitten to other pets and children. In fact any question that you can think of about your new kitten, Dr Dunkle will be most happy to take time to answer! Behavioral Counseling
We offer appointments dedicated to behavioral counseling. During these 45-minute sessions, we will ask you a number of questions to uncover what is going on. Once we get an idea of just what we are dealing with, we may run tests to make sure the behavior in question is not the result of a physical or medical problem.
Nutritional Counseling
It is important that all senior cats have regular check-ups so that any health problems can be detected and treated early, before they become serious. Even the most conscientious of cat parents are not trained to recognize the sometimes subtle cues that their feline buddy is not feeling his or her best. For example, it isn’t easy to notice mild weight loss (often a sign of illness) in a cat, especially a fluffy one! How many cat parents routinely weight their cat? In the case of seniors, it is not uncommon for a cat to have more than one disease process occurring at the same time, which further complicates detection.
Comprehensive Examination
During your cat’s wellness exam, we will take note of your cat’s preferences, personality, and temperament. Likewise, we will ask you questions and gather information about your comfort level. Are you comfortable administering pills or liquid medications to your cat? How easy is it for you to encourage your cat to sit still or be handled by you? Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
While you and your new feline friend settle in, you’ll want to plan to visit us as soon as possible. As adorable as new kittens are, it is not uncommon for them to carry some not so endearing companions with them such as worms, fleas, and ear mites. Since intestinal parasites can be transmitted to humans as well as other animals in the household, you’ll want to address any infestations as soon as possible.
Pain Management
After the pre-op evaluation, your cat will receive pain medication and other medications as is appropriate for the procedure being performed that day. Our compassionate and skilled veterinary nursing staff will be carefully monitoring your cat’s heart and respiration rates, body temperature, mucous membrane color, and overall anesthesia depth from induction of anesthesia to recovery. The surgical nurse is in constant “hands on” and “stethoscope on” contact with your cat during the entire surgery. Even during pre- and post-operative periods, the doctor is never more than a few feet away.

Rose joined Exclusively Cats Veterinary Hospital in May 2003, with the qualifications of being...a cat. Her first job here was to train the staff in the tasks of caring for a “not weaned yet” kitten. In later years, she has also trained them in the tasks of caring for a cat with inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic granuloma complex, non-insulin dependent diabetes, and osteoarthritis. Although she is a “bit short for her weight,” she can be found running from room to room in the hospital supervising the client servicing at the front desk or patient care in the treatment room. She also serves as an excellent teaching model when the technicians need to demonstrate to nervous cat parents how to provide at-home medical care. Rose especially loves, though, to consult with Dr. Dunkle on which toys to order for sale in our waiting room. There is not a toy sold at Exclusively Cats that Rose (and various staff members’ cats) have not first tried out and endorsed! Rose is definitely not “
Diabetes Treatment
Thyroid Disease Treatment
Feline hyperthyroidism is caused by an overabundance of thyroid hormones due to the development of a benign tumor of the thyroid gland. The excess hormone causes a “speeding up” of your cat’s metabolism, which in the early phases looks like “great appetite with some weight loss,” but in the later phases it can be deadly. If caught early, though, it can be successfully managed with an oral or “rub on the ear” medication or it can usually be cured with an injection of radioactive iodine. Both treatment paths give your cat a very favorable prognosis for a happy life.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Early phases of this disease result in no real “illness” to your cat. Sadly, later stages can lead to severe kidney failure and eventual death. Fortunately, by early detection, and then by dietary management and medical therapy, the progression of this disease can be slowed down to many years of a comfortable life. But early detection and management is essential.

We have experience performing a wide range of feline surgical procedures. These range from spay and neuter procedures, feline dental cleanings, biopsies, and mass removals to abdominal exploratories, bladder stone removals, mastectomies, and more.

Laboratory Services
On admission, our staff will take an extensive history to confirm that your cat is not showing any new symptoms of disease. Our veterinarian will review your cat’s blood test results and listen to the heart and lungs, checking for murmurs or congestion, plus check for a decline in body condition or other abnormalities that occurred since your cat’s last physical. Rest assured that our veterinarian and staff will always put your kitty’s health needs first when determining whether a surgery should proceed.
Microchipping
Microchipping is safe, easy (can be done at an office call), and is inexpensive. And, in most cases, your cat only needs to be microchipped once in his life! The "chip" is so small (less than the size of a piece of rice) that you and your cat will never know that it's there! But if your cat escapes when delivery people or guests drop by, or during a house fire or natural disaster, or while you're travelling with your cat, you'll have the peace of mind of knowing that if your cat ends up at a shelter or a veterinarian's office, the chip will be scanned, the microchip company will be called to give your cat's "number", and the microchip company will call you. (None of your information is on the chip... just your cat's chip number.) It's something that hopefully you and your cat will never need to use, but if your cat does get separated from you, the benefits of microchipping are priceless!!!
