Overall

I have been working out with Cynthia at The Fitness Hub for a little over 2 months now. Don’t let the fact that this woman is a grandmother fool you into thinking this is prissy calisthenics. No, this woman is tough! And she is in amazing shape, and she’ll whip you into amazing shape, too, if you let her. I live in Northwest Knoxville, and drive 30 minutes 2x a week just to come to this fitness studio because of the results I’m already seeing and most importantly, feeling.

When I started, I was 50 years old, hadn’t exercised since college, and weighed twice what my healthy weight should be. I also have scoliosis, with a curve and spiral in my spine. I have not lost much weight yet (my fault – I have not changed my eating habits, but Cynthia and I are working on a plan for that, too, now) but I no longer have back pain, I have more energy, strength, and bounce to my step. I no longer have knee pain going up and down stairs. And, clothes that did not fit me years ago when I weighed 10 lbs. less than I do right now, actually fit, because my body composition is changing. I am replacing fat with muscle, thanks to Cynthia.

After my initial consultation with Cynthia, she actually took the time to study up on scoliosis and devised specific exercises that will help strengthen my core muscles in order to prevent further progression in the scoliosis, and perhaps even correct it somewhat.

Each session is different. Cynthia takes the time to devise new programs each week, tailored to each person’s fitness level, with strengths and weaknesses in mind, and all exercises can be done at home or in a hotel room, for those of us whose jobs require frequent travel. She focuses on using body weight, and simple tools like bands, a ball, and a mat. She combines yoga, pilates, and calisthenics, and circuit training for a solid overall workout and cardio training at the same time. When I leave, I am “sore” all over - not in a painful “I can’t move” kind of way, but in an “I can tell I am equally-worked-out all over” kind of way. I feel invigorated after each workout.

I started with one-on-one training, and then moved into a small group session with 2 other women. Both are great, but I found that I enjoy the camaraderie and accountability of group training more. Either way, you’ll get a great workout, well worth your small investment, and Cynthia really knows her stuff.
