I am very sorry for the misunderstanding. I am also sorry that we did not convey ourselves very well. We take pride in our customer service, and strive to be sure everyone is satisfied with their service. We feel our fees are in compliance with the industry standards. Please allow me take a moment and try to explain this better than I did before. It would cost you a minimum of $50 and if you wanted the repair, the $50 would be taken off the final labor bill. We have to charge the suggested retail price of the parts. There is not much wiggle room in that area; as we are not set up to retail parts. I am very sorry that we failed to communicate this in a more understanding way to you. I do appreciate your feedback, and because of this situation, we have changed our fee structure. There is no longer a break on the diagnostic fee. We were charging a $50 service call, and then taking that off the final labor cost. As this seemed to be confusing, we have restructured our fee schedule. The cost of a service call is $70 plus parts. $70 is the minimum anyone will pay if we come to your home. The industry standard fee schedule is as follows: the customer is charged an $80 -$100 service call, $70 per hour (min 1 hour) and then the price of parts. If you choose not to fix the item, you are charged the service call and the minim 1 hr. At Steve’s Appliance Repair, we felt that this was a little too much, and we wanted to give our customers a break while still staying in compliance with the industry standards. Please understand there is a cost involved in a service call, no matter which company you decide to utilize, whether the customer decides to just use the technician’s knowledge and fix it themselves or elect to have the repair completed.
