Minor things such as controlled-High Blood pressure, Thyroid issues or kidney stones might fall under the CACI (Conditions AME's Can Issue) by filling out a simple worksheet and checking records from your treating physician(s). Other things such as color-vision or a fake-leg might require a SODA (Statement of Demonstrated Ability) Sport Pilot Certificate does not require an FAA Medical Exam, and Sport Pilots wanting to upgrade to Private Pilot or higher who are in anything less than perfect health are advised to come in for consultation before doing anything else due to the fact a failed or deferred Medical of ANY class will invalidate and suspend your Sport Pilot License. Epidural steroids or " Cortisone" are commonly injected into the Lower back, but also into the Neck and Thoracic area. This is used more for "Sciatica" or pain coming down the leg or arm, but can be used for Lower back or neck pain as well. While it is true that steroids are not FDA-approved for epidural placement, they have been the standard-of-care for decades. We use only commercially manufactured Depo-Medrol with preservative and we have never had an infection or a serious reaction.

He is a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for pilots and Air Traffic Controllers, military and civilian, at all levels and monitors pilots and other aerospace professionals for optimal health, and also being a Suboxone Provider in addition to being a Chemical Dependency Counselor himself, works with the FAA with an emphasis on getting those professionals with chemical dependency and other issues safely back into the cockpit, as well as anyone else seeking a way out of opiate addiction.
