Reconstructive surgery is a surgical procedure to restore the functioning of the deformed limb or joint. The deformities may be congenital or acquired. Traumatic injury is the most common cause for deformities and may also be caused due to infections or fractures that do not heal properly. Limb reconstruction or restoration procedures include joint fluid therapy, cartilage transplantation, and prosthetic replacement surgeries. Use of external fixators is more common where the fixators are attached to deformed limb or joint using screws and wires. Fixators are used to lengthen or shorten the limb, realigning the non union fractures, correct the deformity and replacement of the missing bone. Apart from these surgical procedures, bone stimulation techniques using electromagnetic or ultrasound devices such as pulsed electromagnetic field device and low frequency ultrasound device are also employed for limb reconstruction. Used for external fractures, these methods may avoid the need for surgery.

Diagnosing injuries and disease begins with a thorough medical history, physical examination, and usually X-rays. Additional tests such as an MRI, or CT scan also may be needed. Through the arthroscope, a final diagnosis is made which may be more accurate than through "open" surgery or from X-ray studies.

Dr. Ballet received his B.S. cum laude from Brooklyn College and his M.D. degree from the New York Medical College. He was an intern/resident in general surgery at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center in New York.

Hand surgery is a multidisciplinary subspecialty of general surgery, plastic surgery and orthopaedic surgery. Its goal is restoration of useful upper extremity function that has been compromised by congenital anomaly, acute injury, cumulative trauma, infection or degenerative disorder.

Michael received a B.A. degree from the University of Massachusetts, attended Northeastern University to obtain a Masters degree in physician assistant studies. He worked previously with orthopedic surgeons at Childrenâ€™s Hospital of Philadelphia, Cooper University Hospital and private orthopedic practice specializing in hand, sports medicine and total joint replacement.
Physical Therapy
Symptomatic treatments include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, immobilization and physical therapy. Most sprains and strains will repair themselves with adequate rest, ice application, compression, and elevation. A splint or cast may be used if the fracture is seen soon after the injury. Severe injuries necessitate surgery.

Each of our therapists is board certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and is a licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of New Jersey.
Tennis Elbow
The most common tendinitis and overuse conditions seen in the upper extremity are Trigger Finger, De Quervain's Tenosynovitis and Tennis Elbow.

General Podiatry
Meg Fairbairn joined the practice in October 2016. Her prior experiences include working on a medical-surgical unit and in a Podiatry office both in upstate NY. She received her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree from SUNY Delhi Tech. in 1996.
