  Nice Location but Lackluster Rooms & Poor Service

  I stayed here frequently while working on a local project. While a great location - walking distance to the capital - with great views of Lake Monona, I was repeatedly disappointed by the very small and dated rooms and extremely poor service. \r \r The exterior, lobby, and Capitol Grill restaurant all look great, but the rooms lack current amenities like working tvs or clock radios, and the bathrooms were so small and in disrepair that they are truly hazardous to one's health - not worth the trouble and risk!\r \r The hotel service was especially disappointing. Dry cleaning and laundry was not picked up - even with assurances from the front desk. Wakeup calls were missed, calls for cabs went disregarded, and complaints simply meant that you got a worse room the following week.\r \r If you don't need the downtown location, opt for a more current and cheaper hotel like the Marriott on the eastern edge of town!

  ok, so madison is pretty chill and has lots of hippies and not enough swank most of the time. But if you want to do it up fancy, this is the ONLY place in madison to do it. Views of the capitol or the lake, walking distance to pretty much everything that visitors want to see (farmers market, state street, convention center, capitol, UW union terrace, both lakes, etc). You can easily taxi it from the airport or park and never have to drive during your entire visit. The most upscale hotel Madison has to offer (which is a bit sad, but it is pretty nice) Madison's best restaurants are in wlaking disctance too (L'etiole, Magnus, Tornado) as far as fancy, great food and spending your money goes
