Behavioral Counseling
You should make sure that you are purchasing a healthy bunny. It is best to select a young bunny. He should have clear eyes and a nose free of any mucus. The bunny should be curious and friendly. Check to see the bunny has been spayed or neutered. Most are breeders and pet stores do not alter their pets. You will want to have your new friend spayed or neutered between 4 and 6 months age. An altered pet will reduce the risk of that famous bunny reproduction and will prevent certain health and behavioral problems. In the United States, bunnies do not typically require vaccines, but be sure to check with your veterinarian to confirm the protocol in your area. Bunnies do, however, require vaccines in the United Kingdom. They always need annual check ups and fecal tests for parasites.

Pet Point Animal Hospital is moving along with the veterinary profession as we look beyond vaccinations in providing preventive care for our patients.We recommend annual physical exams for younger pets up to 7 years of age and bi-annual exams for older pets.Regular physical exams result in early diagnosis and treatment and this can dramatically slow progression of conditions such as heart disease, kidney failure, periodontal disease and arthritis. Some pets may require more screening like blood work and x-rays. Year round parasite control including intestinal parasites, heart worms and flea control will be recommended. Wound and Fracture Care
At Pet Point Animal Hospital we perform both elective and non-elective surgery. Elective surgeries are those scheduled surgeries performed on relatively healthy pets. Examples of such surgeries are spays and neuters. Surgeries such as laceration repairs, mass/lump removals, intestinal foreign body removals, pyometra (uterine infection surgery) are considered non-elective surgeries. All surgeries require some degree of sedation or anesthesia. Risk of anesthesia, while always possible, is minimized by careful pre-surgical preparation, safe drug use, monitoring during surgery, proper surgical technique and minimization of time under anesthesia. After surgery we continue to monitor patients until they are full recovered and make sure we minimize pain with appropriate treatment. At discharge we will give you all the information you will need to care for your furry friend during recovery. And of course we will at all times be only a phone call away.

Ferret ownership. This includes knowledge pertaining to ferret husbandry (care, nutrition, housing, and the species' habits). It is also recommended that no ferret be left unattended with any individual incapable of removing himself or herself from the ferret. It is also important that your ferret have proper care by a veterinarian legally authorized to practice veterinary medicine. This includes preventive medicine and medical or surgical care.
Declawing
Like humans, your pet may at some time require surgery. Some surgeries, referred to as elective are performed on relatively healthy pets. These may be routine surgeries like spays and neuters which are generally recommended for puppies and kittens that are not going to be bred. Spaying and neutering at an early age helps prevent potential behavior and medical problems for your pet. These surgeries also have the obvious benefit of curbing the pet population. Other elective surgeries like declaws are performed more selectively on cats with scratching issues which other more conservative methods have failed to resolve. Declaws may also be required in some instances where a pet owner who is immuno-compromised would like to keep his or her beloved pet without risk of serious disease transmission from the pet.

Dental Radiology
Dogs and cats, like humans, need regular dental care to stay healthy. If untreated, disease from the mouth can spread and eventually affect other parts of the body. Dental care is especially important in some breeds like small breeds, breeds with long faces like greyhounds, than others which may be less prone to gum disease. At Pet Point Animal Hospital we recommend at least once yearly dental exam and cleaning. During the visit we take dental x-rays to ensure we are not missing any disease below the gum line that may not be readily visible during a regular exam.
Microchipping
In the event that your four-legged family member goes missing, you want to ensure that if found, he or she will be promptly returned to you. Microchips are an invaluable tool for this. They are computer chips that are safely implanted under the skin and contain information that, when scanned helps to re-unite you and your loved one. They can be implanted both in an awake pet or while the pet is under anesthesia for another procedure. The pain for implantation in an awake pet is no more than that from a vaccine.
