Chronically high blood sugar from diabetes is associated with damage to the tiny blood vessels in the retina, leading to diabetic retinopathy. Patients on standard diabetes treatment get diabetic retinopathy four times as often as people who kept their blood sugar levels close to normal.

Ultrasound
After making a very small incision outside your field of vision, your eye surgeon will insert a tiny probe and use ultrasound to break up the clouded natural lens. With suction, the pieces are easily removed, and through the same incision, the IOL is inserted and positioned correctly. You may have a protective shield to wear during sleep for about a week, and your eye surgeon will prescribe eye drops to be used several times each day for several weeks. For best results, it is very important that you follow your surgeonâ€™s post-operative instructions exactly.

Blepharoplasty
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty (“eyelift”) is an outpatient procedure that reduces excess fat and skin in the upper eyelids that, if left untreated, can interfere with normal vision. During the procedure, incisions are made along the contour of the eyelid crease to remove the fat. Incisions made are barely visible, leaving evidence that will fade over time.
