My wife and I are from Wisconsin. We come down to visit her sister and husband who live in the neighborhood of Cherokee Coin and Jewelry. I have been active in numismatics since the era of silver coinage in circulation. Stu is a fine fellow. His appraisals are right on the money. (We had to dispose of a good deal of gold and silver jewelry from my brother-in-laws late brother). The cash my brother in law received for this small hoard was quite equitable.

I try to make it by his shop to pick-up "Junk Silver" coinage when I am in town. His margin above spot price is better than most. In addition to that, the coins are not cull-like.

Rude and horrible service, plus they will low-ball you. First the woman looked at my coins and could not even tell what was silver! I could even tell and I am not in the business, but my dad has been a coin collector for 40 years. After 5 minutes of flipping my coins around, the guy stepped in and tossed my coins around as if they were nothing. After ‘evaluating’ everything, he turned his back to me and as he walked away said, 'I’ll give you $80. You can go somewhere else to try to get a better deal or we are here until 5:00.' I went to Numismatic Exchange and they quoted me $45 more than Cherokee. I guess I found a much better deal. Not to mention Numismatic Exchange offered excellent customer service and an itemized list of collectibles. Also, Numismatic Exchange was packed with customers while Cherokee was empty. I guess that could have been a giant red flag for me.
Important to note: my dad appraised my coins almost to the dime that Numismatic Exchange offered. Not that my dad is smart, it’s just that Numismatic Exchange is honest.

A bit rude on the phone, and they charge too much over spot; it's unreasonable. Also, it's never good for business to be antagonistic with potential customers. I don't get it.
Much better prices and service downtown.

I am completely BAFFLED reading some of the other reviews for Cherokee! These guys have been doing this forever and they both love coins. I personally have been doing business here for several years and have NEVER had a negative experience. They really know what they're talking about and are happy to pass knowledge and experience and advice is always free of charge!! Also, durings some trips to Cherokee, I have bought and sold coins and am pretty confident that I have ended up receiving amounts on the higher side of the deal more often than not! Both fair and knowledgeable, Cherokee Coins is the place to go for a great experience in Louisville!

Do not trust the negative reviews. I can not explain that place. It is top rate 10\10.I bought a 260 ad barbarian coin for 6 dollars.!!!!

I have been a coin collector for 50 years and you must do your homework if you think you're getting a bum deal. This was only my third visit to Cherokee in a number of years and I have always found Stu, the owner, extremely helpful and friendly.I think the problem with the other reviewers was that they thought they really had something but they didn't. Stu will show you the reputable book everyone uses for wholesale prices and treat you fair.He treated me even more than fair. Knowledge is power, try selling any good to a business for retail.

worst establishment ever

owner is rude inconsiderate unintelligent a self centered with a godlike complex. Do not do business with this establishment he will low ball you and then finally tell you that he doesn't need your business because he has been there for 35 years and someone else will walk through the door so apparently he thinks that his customers are disposable which is it really how you run an ethical business and it's not how you maintain customers I highly recommend not even considering this is tablishment for your gold jewelry and silver exchanges

Low-Ball, Low-Ball, Low-Ball !!! Rude, Rude, Rude !!! I will never do business with these people. Semi-Key and Key Dates that were in fine to xfine condition and were treated like they were nothing. $30-$40 coins were rated as .50¢ - $1.00 ...WOW!!!!! Snakes!

I was guarded because of the reviews here, good and bad. However, I have to say I was very pleased with my visit. The couple minding the store stood up to greet me as I entered and were very pleasant and helpful. I sold my coins and left. I had no knowledge of this store before visiting, but went there because it was the closest to my home. Should I need to buy or sell again, I will most certainly keep this store on my radar.
