They get fresh (never frozen) meats slaughtered here in Louisville. Poultry is usually slaughtered same day as sold. They have unbelievable meat prices that consistently beat the big chains: WalMart, Kroger, Meijer's and so forth.. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are seldom more than $2.59 per pound and they are usually less than $2.00 per pound. Ground chuck is around $2.20 to $2.59 per pound consistently (while WalMart ground beef is selling for $4.49 per pound). No longer do I buy those big rolls of hamburger or the big bags of frozen chicken breasts at the big chains because there's no money to be saved. Knapp's prices for fresh beat the big chains prices for frozen. On top of that, Knapp's meats are much tastier and more tender. Meat quality is truly excellent. Prices on all groceries are also quite "in line" with big store prices--often better. Name brand canned and frozen goods are often cheaper than the big chains. How? I don't know, but it's true. They operate a small deli in the store. You've got to have their famous coleslaw. It's branded "Mamma Wafford's Homemade Cole Slaw". Mamma retired after making the stuff for many years and now, her daughter, a school teacher at Eisenhower Elementary in Louisville makes it. Here's a link to the local newspaper review. The best in louisville...........conveniently located ....... it carries most Asian food staples (rice/noodles, sauces, spices, veggies). Most of the product is geared towards Korean cuisine however they also carry Chinese and Japanese groceries. You can also find much southeast Asian food supplies (Thai, Vietnamese). I was pleasantly surprised to find pre-sliced beef and other meats for hot pot/shabu shabu. They also stock meats for Korean BBQ (bulgogi, galbi) and a nice selection of kim chee.
I love this store but I do not know what is going on with the stock. All of the shelves are empty and no one will comment on if the store is closing. I hope the store is not closing they have the best meat department and very convenient for everyone in Valley Station. People come from all over Jefferson Co just to get their meat and weekly specials. I would hope you remain open or at least get a buyer for the store.
