Goodbye Johnsonville Brats....and Hello Holmes Homemade Chicken Sausage Links... Okay, if what you crave is The Best chicken sausage ever created, then this is the place. All they have is chicken, I repeat, all they have is chicken, so please don't go looking for anything other than chicken sausage links. I was invited to a BBQ and the host grilled the mild chicken sausages from this place and within minutes they were all gone. I begged the host to tell me where I could buy some and he told me. Well I headed over to Holmes Homemade and picked up a 5 pound bag of the mild and a 2 and a half pound bag of the Hot Habanero (trust me if you like HOT, this is the one you should buy.) I grilled mine the very same day and YES, Oh YES, the Best grilled chicken links I ever had. Notes to keep in mind: Yes they do accept cash and debit/credit cards - $1.00 fee for all debit/credit card transactions They are closed only on Sundays They do not cook the links, you pick it up raw and cook it yourself The parking lot is tricky, just be careful going in and out - it can get crowded They only sell chicken sausage links They only sell the sausage links in 5 pound and 2 and a half pound bag quantities. They have frozen and thawed sausage links for sell I've only had the mild and the habanero, but they do have more flavors and I'm sure those are just as good Will you see me there? I'm sure you will. This is my new favorite spot in Los Angeles.
I came in on a whim after receiving a flyer/coupon for this place at my home. Very pleased I came in, because each time I have gone, I've been very satisfied with the quality of meat here. There is a great variety of meats (they offer fresh/live chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, etc.), and you get to choose which chicken you want. They'll freshly butcher the bird for you and believe me, the taste is remarkably different from supermarket poultry. I have been going down to Chinatown for the last 10 years to pick up fresh poultry because the taste/juiciness/freshness guarantee of live poultry is so different from the chicken you get at the freezer aisle. What's great about this place, is #1, it's in my neighborhood, and #2, and most importantly, it is CLEAN and DOES NOT SMELL. The place I used to go to in Chinatown had one con and that it also had such a strong stench from the live birds--the smell was terrible. This place just opened, so the store is incredibly clean and I was shocked that it did not smell. I will definitely continue to shop here.
This place is the best kept secret in L.A.! The best kosher meat in town by far. Many of the local high-end restaurants only buy meat from this place but its open to the public. We had a barbeque with meats we bought from here and WOW!!! Everyone thought the food was incredible. You could taste the freshness and quality of the meat. No wonder all the people in the know go here. The owners are the most genuine and honest people and don't seem to do any advertising or marketing at all. Definitely a must try!!
