WorldSpeak is full of wonderful and enthusiastic teachers. My daughter learned more from her first day at WorldSpeak than I ever imagined. She is now describing everything she sees in Spanish with adjectives, nouns, and she phrases sentences accordingly. The school is clean, organized, and cozy. My daughter hates leaving her class behind and always asks when she gets to speak Spanish again with all of her Spanish group buddies and teacher. She never gets bored because the activities are always rolling. Whenever someone gets bored the teacher changes the activity, for example, the children might be finished drawing and get restless when the teacher puts on a Spanish CD and helps burn off all of the extra energy they have by dancing and running. There are so many toys to play with (which means so many words to learn!) that I know I could bring my daughter back for years to come and she might never grow tired of the school. I love the location of the WorldSpeak school. The school is in the mall where I get to relax once I drop off my daughter. Time goes by quickly for both my daughter and I when she is in class and I am shopping or enjoying my day at the mall.

The aptly named Skylight Books is an oasis in this era of impersonal, labyrynthian mall chain bookstores and soulless online ordering. This place not only celebrates the joy of books and reading, but somehow manages to make shopping for books as cool as sipping martinis in some trendy Westside bar. Forget the nerdish bookstore clerks of the past; this bookstore is staffed by helpful young people who have clearly cracked open more than a few titles in their time. There is even a steady soundtrack of interesting music, lively and regular presentations featuring actual authors, and an unruffled feline ambling about or napping in the display window. It's a wonderful bookstore and well worth our support and business. I especially love their collection of classic literature, but they have many, many contemporary titles as well. Browse about and immerse yourself in the magic of books. Techno devices may be handy, but there is something about the look and feel and cover art of a book that is irreplaceable to my senses, and treasures abound at Skylight Books. Go.. you won't regret it.
You may find a wider selection at Borders, but you'll find more interesting material at Skylight. Sure, they carry the bestsellers, but they carry a lot of books on local subjects and published by indie imprints. They also carry really good selections of books within each genre, showing a real understanding of what's noteworthy and interesting out there. Additionally, the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. If you're not sure about an author or book, I'm sure they'll be able to steer you in the right direction. They also offer online ordering now on their website. Finally, a lot of prominent authors read at Skylight. They have a calendar of events you can subscribe to and it's only a matter of time before your favorite author shows up at this store. Authors appreciate great independent bookstores, and apparently they really like Skylight, because a slew of them make it a point to stop by Skylight to read/promote their new books.
