Absolutely horrible vet!

Please don't ever take your animal here. The doctor doesn't care about the pets, and the receptionist is the biggest piece of trailer trash I've ever met. I was treated so rudely when I called to get a follow up on my pet's condition. In a nut shell, I brought my resuce dog to see this vet 2 days after we resuced her. Because she is a rescue animal you are allowed a free visit within 3 days of bringing your pet home. This vet honored the free visit, but she acted like she was doing me a favor by seeing the dog. She could care less about the fact that I was a new owner and had lots of questions. She seemed bothered that I asked so many questions and in fact ingnored a few of them. I had to ask her twice on basic things, like how much the dog weights, how much she should weigh, how old is she, rtc. again, she acted like she was doing me a favor. She prescribed the wrong antibiotic for the kennel cough. When I called back because the dog's condition was getting worse, she acted like it was my fault, even though she did not tell us to call or bring the dog back. Then her receptionist got on the phone and started to yell at me....

I regret bringing my dog to this place. I hope you never step foot in there, it's cheap and run down anyway. Plastic chairs and a dirty fish bowl in the waiting room. Not at all a nice place to bring your animal. Why?!!??? because the doctor could careless about your animal and your experience while there.

An Excellent Vet

If you go there for a hug and Oprah-like energy, forget about it. But if you want a highly qualified vet that cares deeply for your pet and has years and years of experience, then this is the place for you.

Yes, Dr.Fernandez cuts to the chase and is a no-nonsense person, but I like it that way ... to-the-point honesty without syrupy emotional posturing, and skilled at what she does.

Oh, did I mention that the prices are extremely reasonable?

go if you want to leave feeling lousy!!

Dr. Fernandez is very unprofessional, demeaning, and does not know how to treat her customers with respect. The receptionist is very cold, does not know how to greet and thank patrons and is a robot who is just there to get paid. I was yelled at several times by the vet, who has no patience and got upset at my questions about caring for my dog once he was home. Dr. Fernandez uses very condescending tones and my boyfriend and I were talked down to over the 2 times we went. I cried because I felt so bad for our dog and what he was going through and she was so heartless and emotionless, showing no compassion for my dog. On a phone call that I made, at the end of our conversation she blatantly hung up on me even though I said thank you after just checking on our dog who had to stay over night. When we picked him up, both his legs were shaved (which couldv'e been avoided) as she said they had to stick him 3 times for the IV since he pulled it out. It was only on the 3rd time they realized to put an E-collar on him to prevent him from accessing the IV line. Overall, my dog ended up fine, but Dr. Fernandez and her main receptionist are meant for each other so only go there if you want to be yelled at and made to feel like SH_T!

safe bet for a vet

I have four rescue animals. Dr. Hernandez saved two of their lives. She does not have the best bedside manner, but she is very coompent. As I write this, one of the cats whose liveswas saved is sittingon my lap purring. I don't know whether another vet could have saved their lives but I know that they are alive. I do know that when they were rescued they were very ill and that they are here w/ me today. Thank you Dr. Hernandez.

Reliable animal doctor

Dr Fernandez takes her job serious which means making you feel bad about not bringing in your pet frequently enough. I think she is a good vet and cares very much for the animals, maybe more than for their owners. the rest of the staff is very friendly and you don't have to wait. But I left feeling like I had been sent to the principal's' office... I have been taking my pets there for 10 years and will continue to do so.

Hysterical vet

Dr. cannot converse, takes all questions personally & gets uber defensive. Most of the times I've called, i have to hold the phone away from my ear 'cause the yelling is so loud.
Never listens, just jumps to conclusions & repeats the same info over & over.
Receptionist is THE RUDEST person I haver EVER encountered in Los Angeles!!!!

The grooming staff is nice.

Great Vet!

I just returned from bringing my cat to his third visit to the Wayfarer Veterinary Hospital. Every experience has been positive. The first time, my cat was very sick. The last two times were for his vaccinations. The vet is open on Saturday, which is great for my schedule. The visits are quick. I have never had to wait long to be seen. The staff is friendly and courteous. They all seem like they like their jobs. The vet always has done a good job explaining what was wrong with my pet and what my options for treatment are. She is patient and has always been happy to answer all my questions. The facility is small and quaint, and it is always clean. I would recommend this vet to anyone.

absolutely avoid this place

they were totally unsympathetic and made us feel horrible.
they basically blamed us for our dog's problems and it turned out that we had nothing to do with them.
they made my fiance cry, in fact.
they treated us totally disrespectfully at the front desk and especially in the vet room.
it was a mess and they touched and talked about the animals as if they were not alive.
extremely rude...we were totally shocked!

and we are easy to get along with.
one note...our dog was in serious trouble and the doctor said there was no way to hurry up the results...said they couldnt come back until tomorrow. but when we pressed the lady at the front desk offering to pay more to save our dog...she admitted that results could be rushed the same day.

dont know why the vet forgot to tell us that a critical 24 hours could be saved.
she really didnt seem to care.
in fact, no one there did.
a very sad interaction.

Be sure your pets get sick at the right time

I brought in a limp, wheezing cat at 5pm. I was seen quickly, but the doctor kept looking at the clock and informed me more than once that they close at 5:30. While I understand they shouldn't have to stay open past operating hours, the cat was incredibly ill and needed help. I was sent to the Eagle Rock Emergency clinic (who were great), but was told that they ""sometimes open at 5:30"" by the doctor at Wayfarer. No. They open at 6. So I rushed over there and waited outside with my poor cat until 6pm. It turns out the cat has a serious liver disease and only a 30% chance of survival. He was basically falling into a coma when I visted Wayfarer. I don't know that a half-hour would make any difference, but I really felt that my cat's 'inconvenient timing' was unwanted at Wayfarer. It was also rather unpleasant to have the doctor inform me, after I started crying and saying I was worried he ate something poisonous, that ""if he ate something poisonous this morning, it's already too late."" Thanks. At least they didn't charge me. They got much friendlier when they saw I was willing to leave and take the cat elsewhere.

Outdated and Judgmental

I went to Dr. Fernandez several times and was displeased with several things. Our puppy was perfectly well behaved on his first visit but she told us we did not handle him enough, when in fact we handle him endlessly and he is very well-behaved when being handled. As first time puppy owners, we asked a few things about clipping nails, etc. and even though there was no one else in the office, she seemed put out by having to answer all of our questions. I also wanted to give our dog the nasal-given bordetella vaccine but she uses the much more outdated method of multiple injections.
