I love it. Waiters are dressed to the nines. Starches are lip-smacking rice, black beans, plantains and yucca. Meats are sauced with garlic, onion and butter as they should be. Yet somehow, it tastes tired. Maybe it's boring. Maybe I'm jaded as an Angeleno and I need some bells and whistles to make me believe that the Cuban food I'm eating is actually better than I think it is. It may be, 'cus I don't really know Cuban culture beyond their awesome contribution to jazz.

The cuabn cuisine at this place is tasty and authentic. The prices are good and the staff is super friendly. My only gripe is that the parking at this place is VERY poorly laid out. I have seen an accident and more than a couple of dinged up car door in my travels to Versailles. Great food guys, but gotta work on the parking lot.

When my girlfriend and I saw how packed the place was, we figured it must be good. However, we were very disappointed. The only friendly service we got was when the bus boy seated us. After that, our waiter was grumpy, disinterested in helping answer our questions about the menu, and he mumbled. I ordered a dinner special- fajitas, which was absolutely bland. They removed all flavor possible from the dish....I don't know how they did that. My gf got some pork chop dish with their famous sauce on it, but the pork was over cooked and tough, and the citrus sauce on the pork over powered the famous butter garlic sauce (which just tastes like garlic butter....I don't see what the big deal is). The only things that were good were the beans, rice, fried plabtains, and iced tea. But, those items are not enough to make me go back their again.

This place sucks! I have been going to this place since i was a kid and i cant believe it has changed so much. You can tell they are using cheaper products cause thier chciken doesnt taste the same and I know for a fact thier servers pick their customers. They fight over the white people and sit them in the front of the restauratn and everyone else in the back. Next time you go in....chech that out its sad. \r The servers are unattentive and rude. I will never be coming back
Whenever we are in the area, we like to come for Cuban food here.
I always love to order the ropa vieja with the platanos (shredded beef w/plantains).
My husband loves to order the Camarones al Ajillo (Shrimp In Garlic Sauce) very, very delicious.
You might also get lucky and catch a celebrity here as this is a local favorite.

We always order and share #20. I don't remember the name but it is somewhat resembling beef stew meaty dish with red bell peppers and tomatoes - with rice, black beans, and plantains. Consistent good quality. Not too spicy, not fried, very soft, easy on my stomach. They bring it almost immediately. Good espresso. Although, we noticed if we choose other seats than suggested, it takes much much longer to get your order. THis all takes place during the day time, morning, lunch hours, so I don't know, maybe it is different at nights.

Been to both the Venice Blvd and La Cienaga locations to try the ""Famous Chicken"" dish. My GF got a small steak. We were both un-impressed. My chicken was dry. Her steak was below average. The high scores from other reviewers make me wonder what they ate that I didn't.

this used to be one of my favorite places. i went at least twice a month. i went last night and instead of chicken i got bones fat and skin as if the chicken was torn off. i told my waiter and he was very nice but when he brought the manager, the MANAGER ACCUSED ME of eating it all and trying to get a free meal! after yelling at me for 5 minutes he finally gave me the meal for free. we gave the waiter a 20 percent tip because it wasn't hiw fault but needless to say i'm not going back.

I was raised on Cuban food and have heard everyone in LA swear by it. I finally got to try it out myself and the food was just horrific. I got a Cuban sandwich, which must be the easiest thing on the menu to cook, and it came out so cold that the meat was cold and the cheese wasn't even melted. Normally, the sandwich is grilled. It seemed like it was nuked in a microwave. I'm never going back again.

I went there for the first time yesterday. I was very excited, the line was long, the smell was wonderful.\r I had a very good sized menu.\r Then my food came. Pork chops with grilled onions, fried bananas and black beans and white rice.\r I ate the bananas first....which were on the plate therefore sitting in the juice from the pork. The bananas tasting like pure garlic.\r The pork chops tasted like pure garlic. I couldn't taste any of the natural flavoring of the pork shops. No seasonings...just garlic.\r The onions were undercooked.\r The beans were bland.\r The rice was great!\r I love garlic, but this was just too much. All I could smell and taste was garlic.\r I was very disappointed.

If you go to UCLA and want to get out of Westwood, Versailles on Venice is the place to go. Get the #6! The chicken is delicious and savory. You pay only $9.99 but you'll have dinner for the next few days! Its a great place to take a friend, or for group events, and its even a great place to take a date! You won't be disappointed!

I almost missed out on this restaurant because I was discouraged by the full parking lot and long line along the outside of the building. Luckily my friend convinced me it was worth the extra effort (and we managed to find a relatively close parking spot on the street) - and he was right. Once we got in the door, the waiter was friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the Cuban food definitely lived up to the hype. The famous garlic chicken (I had to order it) was moist and flavorful, and I also really liked the black beans they give you on the side. For drinks, the mango milkshake was great though the glass was on the smallish side, and my friend's Materva (a Cuban soft drink) was so good I'm going to order it the next time I go. And I'm definitely going again.

i love this place. it has the best roasted pork. it is cooked a long time and the meat literally falls apart. they put this amazing garlic lemon sauce on top of it. yum!!! The only problem is that you have garlic breath afterward. They also have great fried yucca!!!

I have been eating here for 15 years. I'm sure everthing on the menu is great, but the only thing I eat is the garlic chicken dinner. It is legendary. When I have out of town guest this one of the stops we have to make.\r

I used to live half a block from Versailles and now I live two blocks. However, I only go there now when friends drag me. Although the food is decent and great price, I've had an awful experience as of late. I went with a group of 10 for a celebration. Even though we stayed there about another fifteen minutes or so after we paid the bill, THEY DID NOT COME BACK WITH THE CHANGE!!! We overtipped our already generous tip by over $30!!! We thought someone had taken it but after checking with everyone, it was confirmed that the waiter did not come back. Another time, a friend and I (just two of us) were seated at a four-person table (two 2-person tables connected). I guess they got busy so they just took the other table-- which would have been fine except they just took it. No ""excuse me"" or explanation. My handbag that as on the other table as well as the vase were just moved to our two-person table. Versailles has cheap eats but understand that when it gets busy, service just gets weird.

We met our friends here for dinner last night (on their suggestion, but we had been wanting to try it). I must say...not too great. I don't eat red meat and that was a problem--so vegetarians be warned-there are maybe three options. I ended up getting a grilled chicken sandwhich, my boyfriend got the fish. Neither had very much flavor to it, and his was more bones than fish. The garlic and butter bread they served us first was better than the actual meal. The other people we were with seemed to enjoy their meals, so there must be some good things (I hear the garlic chicken is what they're know for). They also serve plantains with EVERYTHING, but they weren't very good, I don't like them too much anyway, but my boyfriend loves them and he didn't think these were too great. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, but it took at least half an hour for our food, and they weren't that busy. One thing that bothered me especially is that they sprayed off the tables around us with Windex, and no one wants a thick amonia smell while they're eating. \r \r This would be fun with a big group of people, you could order a few dishes to try and pass around and get a few bottles of wine. Other than that, I probably won't hurry back.

Delicious... Great place for Brunch, Lunch, Dinner. Suggestions: The entire Menu. \r \r I have tried about 40% of there dishes and all have been great. \r \r The atmosphere is very pleasant. \r \r Great for lunch with co-workers/friends or maybe even a romantic dinner. Not a large menu variety for kids. \r \r Would not suggest for kids. But great for others. \r \r I'm sure you will enjoy.

I came here at the invitation of a coworker. I had never tried Cuban food before and found it to be very tasty. My chicken dish was good but it was a bit odd for me to see large slices of onion piled on top. Other than that, the atmosphere was warm and my meal was very good. I'd come back to try their other dishes.
