I went to Hungry Cat with my bf last night. We started off the evening with a tray of assorted oysters. SO GOOD! The flavor of the oysters was exactly what I expected and were served with a great vinegar and cocktail sauce. We were feeling a little adventurous and decided to give the sea urchin a try which turned out to be pretty good. For the price I thought there could have been a little more ""meat"" to it but it was delicious none the less. I don't see myself ordering the sea urchin on a consistent basis but it could be something fun to order when are guests in town. For our main dishes I ordered the mahi mahi and my bf had the white fish special. Both of our entrees were fantastic! Each bite had wonderful flavor and texture. The mahi mahi is served with this coconut rice. The combination of the sweet and non-sweet flavors really worked well with each other. My bf was hooked on the white fish special with a squash puree and a tarragon butter sauce. We finished up the evening with the tres leches/fig compote cake which was so indulgent but hit the spot perfectly. All in all from the beginning of the evening up until the end we continuously were pleased with the level of service and the cuisine. We'll continue coming here.

I had the best time watching the chefs hand-craft our salads and raw seafood order... incredibly delicious stuff. I will certainly return.

I love this place. Fresh squeezed drinks, raw bar. outside seating. Very cool hip place. A little pricey but worth it. The Crad legs are my favorite. You will enjoy it all

The menu is small, which is fine because clearly they concentrate and do these few things well. My husband and I shared a very flavorful octopus starter that had a nice spike of spice. Our two entrees were completely different in tone and flavor, but both delicious: an earthy dish of nutty scallops served over smoked ham and beans; and a Southeast Asian-inspired dish of astonishingly juicy seared black cod with melon and green papaya slaw over a bed of coconut rice. Skip dessert. There were only two--a bread pudding that sounded too rich for us so we ordered a lemon parfait. It was an underwhelming lemon curd and cream, and our meal would have been better without it. Still, it was the best meal we've had in a while, better than our experiences at some supposedly top L.A. restaurants. We ate at the bar and the service was just fine. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place was a disappointment! First off, the place is incredibly loud. This is not a place to go to have a quiet conversation. They blast the music and you are wedged into a tiny little table with your neighbor practically in your lap! We were seated promptly, but waited 20 minutes to be greeted and to order a cocktail. By the time we ordered our food, another 30 minutes, and by the time the food arrived we were over this place! The food was cold and there was a hair in my wife?s chowder. The management at this place leaves little to be desired and the staff appeared to be overwhelmed. There are better places in LA with better service and food!

My friends and I have been talking about going to Hungry Cat for over a year, but it wasn't until tonight that we decided to try it instead of going to Magnolia after the gym. Not the best decision, but you live to live, right? Let my living help you live better, Hungry Cat is a part of life you can do without.\r We couldn't be seated immediately, because we had no reservations, which is fine. \r We got pointed to the 'beer garden' where we sat in the dark and waited to order drinks. A minute after ordering we were moved to our table. 2 out of the 3 drink orders arrived within 15 minutes, but mine was lost and took another 15 to get. The menu is what it is, but I couldn't find anything I'd order on purpose. One salad option, no vegetarian options, and beyond that NO CHANGES to anything. Everything has eggs in it too, by the way. I did what any trooper would do, and ordered the burger. When asked how I would like burger cooked, I said what I meant, ""well done, bordering on burnt"". The waitress asked if I was hell-bent (direct quote) on that, and since I don't eat raw cow, I am. ""The chef might not want to do that"", she said. \r Instead of saying ?Why?d you ask me how I wanted it cooked then??, I said ""If he won't, I'll take the salad with crab."" Right then and there, the burger was scratched off and I was getting the crab salad. Little did I know that I'd be a contestant for the most toilet paper used in Hollywood tonight.\r Whatever, we should drink something else, right? We order Vodka Tonics hoping a simple two-component drink would come quicker. No luck, and to top it off, they make their own tonic. Guess what, Schweppes has been doing it fine forever, and the homemade tonic sucked. (note: they have no call-alcohol, all proprietary spirits, and they pack the ice in there)\r So, a tiny salad with some gamey bait crab, a cheese plate with one eatable selection, a pasta dish, four drinks and a glass of wine later, we're still hungry, not buzzed, and $145 poorer.

Food, so-so. Small portions and pricey for what you get. Seafood dish that should have been hot came lukewarm. A comment to the waitress only produced an ""Oh, really?"" Perfunctory service. The coffee was good. Parking validation for one hour only.

A friend took me here for my birthday. Service...not good. We ordered the special and pork & clam stew. The special was a bass and all I got with my first bite was a VERY fishy smelling and tasting fish. My friend and I immediately sent it back noticing that the table beside us was sending one of their dishes back as well. Never a good sign. Our neighbors also told us that they used to eat here once a week but that things have changed and now the food isn't good and the menu not as creative. To end the evening, I left with a horrible stomach ache. My roomate had eaten there the week before and said her friends left with bad stomach aches too. Mmm.

Husband and I have been coming here for a while as we live down the street - we were delighted to finally have a good restaurant to walk to. They have yet to disappoint. In the 10 or so times we have visited, the drinks were spot on (specials and on menu), service friendly and attentive and the food fresh and interesting. Their late night raw bar and drinks menu have saved me after other inferior meals. a good solid place all around.

The food and drinks at the Hungry Cat were impeccable.. The service was delightful from the hostess (Tess is absolutely charming), server and bus boys was incredible. They did not miss a beat. My wife and I own a small restaurant and we were pleased to finally find a restaurant in Los Angeles, that has such a hardworking and knowlegeable staff.\r Unfortunately, we were sitting close to the kitchen and had to hear the nonsense coming from the men working there, who are clearly heard and seen. It tarnished the whole experience. The food was incredible\r but the comments were less than to be desired.(offensive)\r My wife also had a run in with the manager, literally. The space is very small and instead of letting my wife through, as she was heading towards the bathroom, he barreled through in front of her chomping on his chewing gum.\r As I said I am a restaurant owner, and have more attention to detail than most.\r I hope they can resolve these few glitches, so we can all enjoy their incredible creations and service without the few who are not aware of their surroundings.\r

This place is beyond good. I agree that the hostess is not very good at her job, but the wait staff here has always been EXCELLENT every time I've been there, and we go there quite often. They are very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Let me start with the drinks. They are AMAZING. They use all fresh squeezed juices, and they always have interesting, delicious mixes, with drink specials every night. The salads are perfection. Always good combinations, with just the right amount of dressing. The burger? Let's just say they give In-N-Out a run for their money in the most delicious L.A. burger catagory. I'm not a huge seafood fan, but what I have had here has been great. The fries are to die for. In short, you will get one of the best meals in Los Angeles, in my opinion. Yes, it does take a little time for your food to arrive, but the time goes by qickly if you have one of their cocktails by your side. It is a little pricey, but it is SO worth it. Basically, this is my favorite restaurant at the moment.

Okay entres, Excellent fries. small portions. Nice waiters but Very, very::::: Slo::::::w service. Even after some tables were empty. \r After waiting for 40 minutes for drinks and to order, we asked for toast -for which we paid. This came to us burnt and 'with' the entres, another 20 minutes later?\r \r Never again.

My boyfriend and I stopped by after an evening at the Grove. We were expecting a long wait after being told earlier that they were booked solid for the night and only bar seating was available. Surprisingly enough, we waited for only 15 mintues for patio seating. \r \r We were quite surprised that the menu was small--but with the menu so small we were sure they mastered each dish. He ordered the PUG burger and I had the ling cod with merguez and kale. The waitress did inform us that the kitchen was backed up and the food would take longer than usual. The cocktails were brought out very quickly and to our surprse, their concoctions were absolutely delicous. They cocktail menu is very innovative--and we enjoyed them very much. They are a bit overpriced, but then again it's HOllywood. \r \r The food took about 35 minutes and it was well worth the wait. The fish was perfectly cooked...i would love to describe to you what it looked like, but it was so dark outside I only saw what turns out to be a small spoon of mayonnaise on top of it all. That was a unique experience...each time I put something in my mouth, i wasn't quite sure what it was going to be! But it was really good. \r \r The burger--it's probably going to be the best burger you've ever haid. The 1.5 inch thick patter sits on a brioche and topped off with blue cheese, avocado, and bacon. It's served with a mound of thin crisp fries (i honestly don't remember the last time i had fries so good). Oh, another thing--the base of the burger is probably the size of your palm. Small, but it's thick. hahaha. \r \r Customer service was stellar. And look, maybe you can't customize your dish but the chefs know what they are doing. Don't pay attention to finicky, high maintenance reviewers who've complained. Why go to a restaurant to customize your meal and expect portions larger than your stomach can hold? The Hungry Cat is by no means a Chili's or a Claimjumpers. We can't wait to go back.

I went to The Hungry Cat over the weekend and had to respond to all the negative reviews in regards to the service. I don't know if it was the reviews that made a difference, but the service was wonderful. The hostess was friendly and lovely, and our waiter couldn't have been nicer. The food, from appetizer to dessert, was amazing. I definitely will be going back again soon.

Place was awesome. Somehow we got a walk in table on a weekend. Maybe we got there early? Anyway...the food was incredible. Shrimp app was perfectly cooked and seasoned perfectly. We got some kamquat cocktails that were awesome. Very fresh and very tasty. Our entrees were excellent as well. Fish was perfectly cooked to mid rare. The place is small and our server was awesome. She was very attentive and took great care of us. Everytime we have been back since we havent been able to get in with no reservation, even the bar. Definitely reccomend this place!

I had high hopes for my first visit to Hungry Cat, but left feeling very disappointed, hungry, and ripped-off.\r Service was poor, staff pretentious and cold, and menu overpriced. I've had much better oysters at Ocean Avenue Seafood. I would never go back or recommend.

After a longer than expected wait with reservations, I was dissappointed by the food and service. The food took an unusually long time to arrive. Especially considering you are not allowed to make any modifications to the items! The appetizers arrived with the entrees and were average at best. With all the great restaurants in LA, this place is worth skipping. Don't go here!

This restaurant's service is about as warm and friendly as a slab of concrete in the dead of winter. The staff and especially the hostess is impersonal, pretentious, and have the customer services skills of a burned out DMV employee. This poor service and extensive wait to be seated and recieve any food negated any pleasure my group experienced from the meal. If this place is going to have any staying power, it needs a serious lesson in customer service. I definitely don't recommend this place.

My night at Hungry Cat began with an encounter with a rude and very tan hostess. The hostess was uninviting and had the worst case of pretentious attitude east of La Cienega. After waiting 1 hour without a heat lamp, my party was seated at the bar. The drinks looked interesting but the staff was pretty inpersonal. The food was decent but after all the bad service....I can't recommend this place.

Oyster were good. Not great, but not bad. Actually they were good. Sorry. I just remembered some oysters I had at Charcoal...the taste is still festering in my mouth. Great drinks here at Hungry Cy - a bit pricey...but it's Hollywood, someone has to pay for all the ""new"" glitter on Vine/Sunset. Hollywood chic, especially Bed, Bath & Beyond & Borders. Brings me back to the old days of Garbo & Gable.
