Best Sushi - Small Fun Atmosphere

Have been coming here for the past 2 years and love it. Maybe back in 2006 when they changed chefs, they hadn't found their groove yet. But the reggae has settled into the place.

The prices are so reasonable for the portions and delicious specials. We usually walk away stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey for around $30-$40 including Saki and Moki.

The Carpaccio is excellent and we always get a few of the specials. Sometimes the specials are so unexpectedly divine, we have to order an additional plate.

Easily the best Sushi in LA

I read the other reviews, and I was appalled. Sushi House is hands down the best sushi place I have ever eaten at. i have been to lots of sushi spots. LOTS (including Nozawa in Studio City, Roku in Santa Monica, Coy, and Taru Sushi in Studio City to name a few). The atmosphere is very nice, not stuffy, and even fun. Roots reggae and dancehall playing in the background, a steady buzz of conversation, and the constant attention from the exceptional staff.
Now, for the food. The best fish. The best falvor combinations. Shin is a master of his craft. The toro is lways amazing. I highly recommend getting the Omakase (Chef's choice). Everything he gives you will be amazing.
Ignore those other reviews. I have been four times to see Shin, and each time was totally mind-blowing. AWESOME!

AVOID NOW AT ALL COSTS UNTIL YUKI OR KIYOSHI RETURN DEAD DEAD DEAD! NEED I SAY MORE?

I was shocked and greatly saddened one day with a huge appetite and dreams of eating the best sushi on the planet, to show up and find that Kiyoshi had up and vanished. Yuki and Kiyoshi had made this place on Pico the equivalent of a national landmark. Move over Elvis. As a professional pilot, I had eaten fresh sushi all over the world. Most of it very average, some made you ill. By far the best ever was what Yuki and Kiyoshi put out. What made their dishes unique was their flavor combinations, their portions, the freshness, the cuts, the atmoshpere and of course their killer prices. There was no place like it anywhere. Once I flew all the way from Texas, just to gorge myself, then to fly back to work. I used to go there alone and stuff myself like a polar bear after a winter hibernation and they would charge me a paltry 8 dollars, a peasants wage. But after eating there, I felt like a king! I felt embarassed all the time so I always arrived bringing expensive gifts and left 50% tips or more. The food was to die for and so was the comaraderie. It was a fight to get a table and us insiders knew the drill, which I cannot divulge. I had eaten there over 17 years. Like the others we greatly miss the original Sushi House. When I saw the new place, I did not even sit down for a meal. The place was empty like a ghost town. I simply walked out and have not been back since. I was heart broken. I must say though, that I have original pictures of the place and have written a childrens book to immortalize the place in history as once being the best Sushi House on the planet. To those of you who were lucky enough to have enjoyed their dishes, I am certain you, as I, will all miss the place. Kiyoshi wherever you are, we wish you all the best. We sincerely wish you would return and revive the best Sushi House on the planet, for this new place truly, truly, truly SUXS! Harold Katinszky

Sushi House in Santa Monica

The old Sushi House was crowded and had great atmosphere -- the sushi was excellent and so were the prices, the new owners have ruined all of that!!. The ""new and improved"" Sushi House may be new but it isn't improved. now its very overpriced, they changed their sushi so its no longer unique and unusual
the spicy tuna is just tuna now without the amazing flavors they use to use and even the 4316 isnt as good as before we paid 50 dollars! for very little sushi usually we would stuff ourselves for less than 30 dollars
as we hadnt been for sometime we turned up very early expecting the usual lines and wait but we were the only two people in the restaurant for the entire time we were there.
unfortunately you could say 2006 was the death of the sushi house, may it rest in peace!!

Long wait for table and sushi - good sushi

Toro was stringy and not great. However, prices were right on! Good Yellowtail and sweetshrip. Large rolls. Long wait for table and service.

To bad for the old ""Sushi House"" crowd!

My family and friends use to just die for the Sushi House for a delicious sushi dinner, well my friends, those days are gone for good at this place since they changed owners!
We went there last Wednesday after dinner time so it wasn't busy. I don't have enough words to type so I'll cut to the chase....The place sucks now! Have you ever had a simple California Roll and actually gagged because it was made to dry? The sushi is made smaller, and the service is extremely slow! We had to cancel our last 2 orders because it took so long, and they didn't have any Unagi but didn't inform us until after we had already been there for an hour! We will forever miss the original ""Sushi House""! Am sorry to have to inform you of this, but it's all true!

What the heck happened?

Pico Sushi house used to have a a funky feel and great sushi, especially their spicy tuna roll. Now they have what appears to be new owners, a new decor, bad food and worse service. The sushi is average at best with the folks behind my party sending two dishes back. We had to sit and watch our food after waiting 5 minutes for wasabi after the ""waiter"" decided to run around in circles and clear a table no one was waiting for... If it was not for another waitress helping out I might still be waiting for the food or the check. Please bring back the original!

smokin' sushi

I am a sushi connoisseur. Let me begin with saying that this is easily the best sushi I have tasted in L.A.. The fish is fresh, bought from Japanese fishmongers, and very tasty. Their spicy tuna, spicy scallop and tempura are AMAZING. The only con: the place is small and always packed, so you can count on a wait... but, it is well worth it.

cool ambience, but too crowded!

i've been here twice now and the first time was fine because i was with one other person. this past wednesday night, i went as a party of three...and it was hell trying to sit at the sushi bar. two of us managed to sit down when two seats freed up and we were waiting for one of the two couples bookending us to leave. turns out neither of them left for another 45 minutes, which meant we waited for nearly 2 HOURS for the three of us to sit down. all that trouble for mediocre food, at best. beware everyone, people here tend to linger and not leave when sitting at the sushi bar. maybe it's the reggae, but people do not have that quick 1-hour meal nor do they have the courtesy to see that a line of people are waiting for seats!!!!

Awesome Place

This place is great, still being a ""rookie"" to sushi, i can totally taste the difference between this place and other sushi places in my area. The food is soo fresh and the atmosphere is great. Nothing like a little Bob Marley to get you relaxed. If youre a Marley fan, you'll love this place. Definitely worth going to.
