This place was very charming. The service was great and we felt very cozy. We found this place by accident when another Italian restaurants website showed they were opened on Sunday for lunch but were not. We are so glad because I will never forget the lasagna. It was different than any other and it just melted in my mouth. It is only served on Sundays so keep that in mind. You won't be disappointed.

Service is fine; a bit overplayed with the authentic ? Italian waiters, some of whom lack sophistication, struggle in communicating the specials, and aren't attentive to the little service items; Food presentation is excellent, and appetizers are tasty; main course pastas are solid, some are very good; Meat dishes as entrees are well presented but lack finish - careful prep and seasoning for flavour enhancement are missed on some items; instead extra grilling is substituted;
Major issue - for the price, Pizzacoto down the street does its fish and meat entrees and its grilled salads equally or better at 15-20% lower entree price;
Same problem with wine list; for a comfortable but not fashionable location in a little store front on Barrington, Sor Tino should have better pricing on wine list to engage its customers in a tough economic environment -even Brentwood diners are sensitive to value proposition;
Have only tried restaurant twice - with so many good Italian choices on the west side, tough to commit to go back, although maitre'd, probably an owner, is charming and creates very convivial atmosphere that makes the dining experience pleasant

Our neighbors suggested we try Sor Tino and said it was one of their favorite restaurants. I have to say that they were so friendly and warm. They speak Italian, which was a good sign and I believe it is family-run. Our server and another server joked and chatted with us as if they had known us for a while. It was really nice. It was a very charming and cozy atmosphere. My boyfriend got a seafood ravioli (home made with sea bass filling and crab sauce) and I got the gnocchi (at the recommendation of the server). They were both really good; we liked his better!! Actually, his was amazing! They unfortunately gave my boyfriend the wrong ravioli dish at first. The manager came over a little while later with the right dish. It was not a big problem although we were surprised that they didn't offer to compensate somehow for the mistake; maybe just a glass of wine as a gesture. Regardless, we had a really nice evening on the patio (under a heat lamp!). I walked by just the other night and the place was very crowded; they seem to do a good business. We would definitely go back.

It's been a while since anyone reviewed Sor Tino and I felt compelled to finally register for CitySearch to share my opinion. To me, this is one of the best Italian restaurants outside of Italy.
My family is Italian and almost every time we get together for dinner we choose a cozy Italian restaurant to share an evening together. The thing about being Italian is that I've had the pleasure of enjoying some unbelievably good home-cooked meals from my grandmother throughout my life. Great home made pasta sauce, lasagna, cioppino, bragiola, risotto, etc...
Unfortunately, this privilege comes with a price as nearly every Italian restaurant leaves me comparing taste with my grandmother's cooking; ultimately leaving me with a disappointing comparison. And then I was introduced to Sor Tino by some friends that moved to LA several years ago from New York City.
Since that time I've eaten at Sor Tino at least 30 times and have never once been disappointed by the food, service, or experience. I almost never call in advance for reservations and am always greeted with Italian politeness and grace and never wait more than a few minutes for a table.
The food is consistently outstanding... my favorite dish (hands down) is the Risotto Pescatora. It's absolutely outstanding. Their pizzas are fantastic as well and for starters I love the Insalata Carciofi, with shaved parmigiana, artichoke hearts, and hearts of palm.
Sure I like to wine and dine at some of the best places (Mastros, Sasabune, Sushi Roku, The Wilshire, etc...) but there's nothing like having a ""sure thing"" always in your back pocket with a wonderful atmosphere, charming experience, and delightful food.
Part of me almost doesn't want to share this opinion publicly since the reviews of Sor Tino on Citysearch are kind of mixed and unjust... but they deserve a true appraisal of their quality.

The pizzas are really thin and Neapolitan style. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. Ask for the cannolis for dessert, they have them very rarely, but they are so wonderful and creamy, I figure, If many of us request them they will start making them more often... They told us that if we call in advance, days in advance, they will have them ready for us.. They are that good that we should be preparing our sweet-tooth days in advance. They are like a visit to Sicily, worth planning for.

A great casual Italian place on San Vicente's Restaurant Row, Sor Tino serves authentic Florentine cuisine. The specials are usually quite good and different -- they did a nice rabbit dish for a while, and the risotto of the day is most always excellent. The pastas are fantastic and creative: the parpadelle with wild boar sauce (hearty, stew-like) is excellent, as are the gnocchi (very lite and fluffy, served in a light mozzarella tomato sauce). I also enjoy the sea bass-filled ravioli served with a spicy crab arrabiata sauce. Pizzas are thin and crispy. Also, try the carciofi salad -- shaved parmesan with sliced artichoke hearts in a light, lemon vinaigrette. Quite yummy. Desserts are fresh and delicious -- try the creamy (with appropriately balanced bitterness) tiramisu. They have an enclosed patio-area with heat lamps -- just perfect for enjoying a nice meal, a good bottle of wine, and a cup of coffee on a Westside summer evening. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, as are the managers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

On our 1st visit, we had the most fantastic waiter - who was friendly & professional. We told him it was our first time there, and he guided us through his favorites. We shared a pizza, and then had the wild boar pasta and the veal pasta. Both were truly wonderful - but we fought over the boar pasta! And the wine list is great! I love, love, love Vietti wines - and they have them! Best Barbera d'Asti you can get at a restaurant for $36. We feel we got much more than we paid for!

My boyfriend and I go here every week. We love sitting outside because it reminds us of a cozy European cafe. They have a great selection of wines...fantastic specials...great healthy and comfort food options. The service is phenomenal. If you want a personable waitstaff then you have it here...if you want to be left alone then look no further. They are accommodating to all personalities and taste buds.
