- RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen is an upscale casual destination from restaurateur, David Overton and Singapore-raised, New York trained Chef Mohan Ismail. RockSugar showcases the cuisines of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and India. As keeping with the traditional style of Southeast Asian dining, dishes are meant to be shared and each plate aims to capture the spirit and authentic flavors of Southeast Asia. The restaurant also features a full-service bar with an extensive wine list and exotic cocktails. An on-site bakery allows RockSugar to create fresh-made desserts that infuse traditional French flair into nearly a dozen Asian-influenced items. Happy Hour is every day from 4-6:30PM in the courtyard and bar areas. Parking is located in the Westfield parking structure and is complimentary for the first 3 hours with validation. This is a beautiful place to go for a date or a special occasion. The decor and the service here are wonderful, but the food is really a problem. Almost everything I have had here is just so oily it ruined the whole experience. That said you can have a nice evening here if you can just avoid the high fat choices. Unfortunately, that is hard to do here.

Let's just jump right into it shall we? Really satisfying experience.
Went with my cousin to this place hoping it will not be another one of ""those places"" and it wasn't.
As we looked over the menue we came accross the tasting menu which had really nice choices on it. Ususally the tasting menu isn't very inspired.
We had a trio of apps. - Crispy Calamari, which was just OK, needed more flavor. Laquered ribs, which were really good, sticky with a little spice to them, and then we had the potstickers, which were nice, but just a bit greasy... nothing to lose any sleep over.
2nd course we had the coconut chicken soup, which was really nice. I was hesitant because I thought it would be too sweet, but there was a really nice balance between the coconut and the chicken. There were also sweet snap peas and shiitaki mushrooms which were a welcome balance. Also, the soup had a really nice heat to it, and by heat I mean spicy, as in hot... you feel me?
Main course was made up of their bsil Thai chicken, which was spicy and really good, as well as the shaking beef. This was kind of like a mongolian beef, but the meat was not sliced into paper thin pieces, these had mass and was a welcome change.
We also had a side of noodles and spicy cauliflower, which was a really nice balance to the meal.
Final course was the fresh doughnuts and Caramelized Banana Custard Cake. They brought the doughnuts with the hole covered by the little piece of dough side by side so it kinda looked like a pair of breasts, which, what can I say, amused the adolescent boy in me. But the real star of the show was the Caramelized Banana Custard Cake!

The food, service and ambiance are exceptional. The staff are extremely attentive with out fail. The quality of food is equal to similiar restaurantsI frequent in NY. The decor is stunning and enviting.
I have seen quite a few celebrities each time I have been there. It is certainly a place to enjoy great food, service and to be seen!
It's a good thing this restaurant is not next door to my house. I would be there every night. Try the Lacquered Ribs, Samosas, or the incredible Vietnamese Chicken Wings. My personal favorite is the Crab with Cellophane noodles. Nice menu choices for vegetarians as well. Cocktails border on the sweet side, but they are very creative and all hand crafted. Staff is cordial and efficient. The atmosphere is over the top. The communal table at the front is great for people watching!
This is one of the best Pan Asian restaurants I have been to in LA.
The food is great and is designed to be shared - Asian family style. The service was beyond great. We had a small party for our office and the staff and managers at RockSugar were very attentive and knowledgeable.
The Private DIning Room is very elegant and perfect for our small group. The menu they created for our event was fantastic. It was very nice to have all of the different flavors from SE Asia.
This restaurant is a must visit.

We took some out of town guests to rocksugar, one of our favorite restaurants today. Hostess told us there was no room except in the patio (restaurant was COMPLETELY empty when we got there) because of large parties. When we complained, we were seated inside but way in the back (which was fine as we had two babies with us). Service was incredibly slow -- took 2 hours for lunch! As we were leaving, did not see too many large parties and we still saw many empty tables. Complained to the manager, Eric, who was not terribly concerned/sympathetic but gave us his card (I'm not sure what purpose that will serve). Despite the great food and wonderful atmosphere, unlikely we will return in view of the second rate treatment we received. If rocksuger is becoming a westside restaurant with attitude -- definitely NOT worth a visit!
