usually order submarine, breadsticks with garlic, and/or one of the named pizzas rustica or whatever the other house special is. its true the cheese slides off but i still like the place. i do have to reconsider and give it 4 star considering other places i've tried.

I had heard from several sources that Pizza Buona served fantastic pizza. I read the reviews on this site and since they were predominantly and overwhelmingly positive, we thought we would check it out. We laughed about the two harsh reviews and thought that the average of stars made it worth a try. So, last night we made our way down Sunset to the graffiti covered building, parked and took a seat in the empty restaurant. I take my Pizza very seriously. For those of you who praised this joint, I have to say that this pizza does not deserve 5 stars by any standard. There are a couple of nasty reviews here, giving PB a mere one star. Well, that's not fair either. I am giving it 2 stars for being incredibly mediocre. The negative reviewers did make some great comments with which we do agree. From the first piece, the cheese slid off the crust as if it were desperate to stay on the platter. It was a balancing act after that. Just trying to keep the cheese and crust together was impossible. The toppings were simply ok and the crust was not bad. We ordered the pizza well done in an attempt to guarantee that the cheese would fuse with the crust as we had read some reviews that mentioned a cheese-sliding issue. The plan failed. If you are thinking about ordering pizza from Pizza Buona and absolutely want it delivered, I don't recommend it at all. It was mediocre in the restaurant, so delivery wont help keep the cheese in place. For delivery I do recommend Garage Pizza if they will deliver to your area. For my money... I would rather make the trip to Eagle Rock and wait in line for pizza at Casa Bianca... by far the best thin crust in LA).

I really miss this place. Aside from Nicky D's, this is the best pizza in the Echo Park/Silverlake area. It's a unique kind of take on New York style pizza, and in that same vein it's best when straight up with just cheese or pepperoni. It's thin crust and a sweet tomato sauce under some cheese that perfectly handles that balance between chewy and crunchy.
Last time I checked it was cash only.

I have to say that this is some really good pizza. I wont say its the best in LA but it is definately one of my favorites. I usually order the 'rustica'. its true that this is some soggy pizza atleast at the center but I find it to be delicious. the actual crust is nice and crispy. I always have it with some fresh garlic bread sticks and sweet burgundy wine. I have also had pasta here. I've tried the cheese ravioli and spaghetti with italian sausage they were also great. The sauce tastes fresh every time.
As for the complaints on here. I have to say that I prefer eating at the restaurant in the first place. And with this pizza I would say that trying it at the restaurant so that you can have it fresh out of the oven is a must. The reheated pizza is good as well but having it delivered and expecting same quality as being in the restaurant is unrealistic. I would argue that goes for anything that is served hot.
My two cents

We live just a mile away from Pizza Bouno. Their food is generally good except for their pizzas. We've eaten in or taken out food from this establishment over a dozen times in the past year.
Every pizza we've ordered from them have been extremely oily and on take outs the boxes were completely soaked with oil at the bottom. The worse part is their entire pizza topping manage to easily slide off the crust. If you're not careful you might discover the entire topping has slid off the crust upon opening the hot box. It is almost impossible to cut a clean slice for serving. Something is not done right during the baking process for this to happen every single time. I am amazed at all the positive reviews about their pizza. We buy their pizza because they're very close. Next time I am inclined to let the owner know of this problem and how we're dissatisfied with the quality of his pizzas. He knows this because once we there dining he instructed one of the take out customers not to tilt the box.
Anyway, aside from their pizzas which I don't recommend, the rest of their menu items are quite good. Customer service is about average. Sometimes they can take long when crowded.

Closing a hectic weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in at Pizza Buona one Sunday night. The atmosphere was familiar and warm, with a few couples seated in the booths lining the walls and a large group of friends who sat at the table in the center of the room sharing a few pies and pitchers of beer. Pizza Buona's menu boasts familiar Italian dishes in addition to their pizza, including a well selected beer menu. We ordered a vegetarian style pizza, but requested a few substitutions for the oringinal toppings. In about 15 minutes we were greeted with a piping hot pizza made exactly to our specifications. The sauce was tasty and our requested toppings generously scattered evenly around our beautiful pizza pie. The owner (I assume it was the father), came out to greet us and to make sure our meal was to our liking. Pizza Buona is a modest locally run family business, not some overly ""hip"" hangout, (such as other overpriced competitors in nearby areas) and that's what we especially liked about it. Obviously Pizza Buona cares about their service and product, which in turn keeps their customers from coming back. We're headed there again tonight because in addition to craving a great meal, we're also looking forward to the laid-back and comfortable atmosphere that is Pizza Buona. We're so glad they're in our area!

I love Pizza Buono! Their food is great and they deliver to Echo Park as many
Restaurants in the area do not. A family run business, the owner or his son, are often the delivery drives. This last review complaining about the hour wait was asinine?Yes it may take about an hour for delivery but that?s because the food is made to order, not pre-made fast food. This is not crappy Dominos. We have been ordering from Buono for at least 7 years and the food is always fresh and hot when it arrives. We love to dine in too. Our favorites are the Fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and broccoli, cheese ravioli and any pizza they have. I?m an Italian, LA native and this is one of my favorite pizzas in LA county period. The outside of the restaurant is often taged, but that is the nature of the street corner. Go dine in! They are friendly and remember you if you have been there only once. They also have great inexpensive table wine, the place is clean and well priced.

I read the raving reviews about this so-called New York style pizza and was really excited to try it. I live about 10 blocks from the restaurant yet it took over an hour to deliver my over-priced pizza when I was quoted a much less wait time. I get the pizza and the crust was soaked and soggy, not thin & crispy as reviewed. The pizza wasn't even warm and the cheese was like plastic and it kept on sliding off the pizza--it wasn't melted ON the pizza at all! It was rather a big glob of hard cheese and toppings. This is hands down the worst pizza I have ever had. Obviously these people who are raving about this pizza have never had pizza! I'll take Dominos anyday over this joint!

I have to say I love this pizzeria. I do not know how many times I've either ordered out or visited Pizza Buona since I moved to Los Angeles three years ago but nowhere else in the area makes me as consistently contented as this place. The pizzas, the veal parmesan, chicken parmesan, eggplan parm, minestrone soup, garlic bread, and wine (atleast for the price on the wine) are all excellent. The salads I would probably avoid and go for the soup instead. The location and service has always been friendly whether it's been delivery or eating in and I can not remember being disappointed once. Great restaurant to know and I can guarantee you will want to keep coming back!
