New location on 7th & Grand and Woodland Hills!!!

    Provided by

Okay, lets get real.....\r This man has single-handedly held down the BBQ game in LA for years now.\r I hear too many people claiming that their BBQ is better and ya-de-ya.\r If you really want some serious BBQ there's no other option in LA!\r As far as reviews go, always beware of other BBQ places trying to pose as customers or yelpers.\r It's lame.\r Especially when you know that the food here is amazing and if any other place could have took them down it would have happened a long time ago.\r This guy has created a landmark Downtown that was removed by bureaucratic BS and fought his way back Downtown to open a new location.\r Hey...No one respects a restaurant.... but everyone respects the food.\r \r 1 up

    Best BBQ in Town.... BUT>>>>>>

    Provided by

WHERE DID IT GO?????\r \r I wanted to eat some bbq today and drove by the place. It's not there anymore!!!!!! The building was demolished and the plot taken over by developers!\r \r If it were still there, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who's down for some great bbq without the monster size tip. Their tri-tip is a local favorite: tender and swimming in bbq sauce with some garlic mixed in. Also very tasty are their seasoned fries: soft on the inside with a crispy outside, and 100% tasty.\r \r Service is a little slow, but the food should make up for it. You should not expect cleanliness in the dining area. It is an outdoor dining area, there are pigeons walking around, and it is/was in the middle of downtown LA, so air pollution and dust can be expected. You can always order to go.\r \r If anyone knows where BBQ King went, update this information please!

Food = Excellent; Service = Well....

    Provided by

This is my favorite BBQ spot in L.A. hands down. Having grown up in los angeles and lived down the street from Philip's, tried Woody's, and cried when Leo's closed I am so happy I found this place! Who knew the best bbq place would be Downtown!! You get HUGE portions, tender and perfectly seasoned meat, and the sauce alone is worth the trip. But its sad that the customer service is ridiculous (i.e. wrong orders, rude drivers, etc...) When I want bbq i kinda question do i REALLY want to go thru the hassle of putting up a fight and trying to order my food and hoping they get it right. But when i go ahead and go thru all the drama and finally get my food it was actually worth it.

    Sweet BBQ and sour service.

    Provided by

The food was OK and I truly think I would have enjoyed it better if not for the service. I was told to, ""look at the menu"" when I asked a question, waited a full 30 minuits untill my order was ready and the order was wrong though I was charged for the missing items. My coworkers and I had to share what we got because we couldn't wait another half hour for the food to be prepared. The facility had so much smoke that it made people cough at times. For the price I paid I expected much more food, better service, and a better dinning enviroment. I now frequent a BBQ joint down the street.

    meat overload!

    Provided by

Just came back from my first visit..the pork ribs are great! Each rib had so much meat. The sides are ok, the corn bread eh....either way, I am most def going for the ribs. I asked for the burger but was told that it would be a 25 min wait...I will call in my order next time. Meat so good.

    Average barbeque, looong wait

    Provided by

Born and raised in Texas, I can tell you that this place does not serve authentic Texas barbeque. Although it is tasty, it's a far cry from the real thing. And the service is worse--although they pride themselves on slow-cooking their meats, it takes forever, and by the time my order was ready, I wasn't even hungry anymore. Plus, in Texas there are far quicker restaraunts who serve much better barbeque. I don't plan on going back to this place anytime soon.

    Good, but lil bit dirty

    Provided by

This place has good BBQ ..the price isn't bad..only thing is they have an outdoor patio..and there's pigeons all over the tables...which is gross.

Long waiting, Service with negative attitude

    Provided by

I like the idea of having a different burger, and I have been there a couple of times. Be aware the clerk is not too nice and when I asked why my burger took 25 minutes, they just said: go to McDonalds if you are in a hurry. Food is OK, but I am not planning on visiting this stand again.

Make a stop for the burger!!

    Provided by

Once I found out about this place, I kept stoping by before a Dodger game. Don't get me wrong, I love Dodger Dogs but nothing beats the 1 lb burger at Texas BBQ King. The burger is cooked under the ribs in the giant BBQ so that the drippings fall right on top. Oh Goodness that is good! The fries are good too!! I really want to taste the rest of the menu but everytime I show up and see the burger...well you know the rest!

Pretty good but not Texas barbecue

    Provided by

The barbecue here is pretty good but take it from a real Texan-- the bbq here is not real Texas bbq. But still it's better than a lot of the other bbq places in LA and for half the price. Not really a dine in place though there is an outdoor patio on the side. Usually a long line at lunch.

    The Best Barbecue Chicken

    Provided by

I went with my co-worker because he was raving about the tri-tip. I ordered the chicken and it was the best I have ever had. The hamburgers look great. I will try one the next time I go. The staff was very friendly and we got our order very quick.

MY FAVORITE BBQ SAUCE IN THE WORLD

    Provided by

I must say i have gone there maybe 10-15 times and I LOVE (MOST) EVERYTHING ABOUT THE BBQ KING! Number 1 the Baby Back Ribs are delicious and the sauce (which they sell in bottles to go) is possibly the sweetest tastiest i ever had. Yes the parking lot is gross and ive come to just ignore it chalking it up to downtown authentic. I've learned ORDER AHEAD and get it TO GO so i can enjoy it in the comfort of my own home with a nice glass of red wine. (oh yeah). The cornbread is sometimes dry but a little butter and the microwave can fix that. Yes the wait IS unusually long. Phone ahead or if you have kids that annoying moon-walk balloon ride thing in the parking lot can kill some time while you wait. oh, and dont forget LOTS OF NAPKINS!

    Wait Too Long

    Provided by

This is a great place for BBQ, but, the wait is increadible. I love the 1lb burger they serve. I always order by phone and highly recomed you do so, yet you will still have to wait when you get there. They tell you on the phone that it will be about 25 min, yeah right, try an hour. This has happend the last three times I have ordered by phone, and they have proven to be consistantly bad in their timing and service. Also you wait down wind from the BBQ so you will smell like smoke all day. It's too bad because the food is good. I am sorry to say but last time they made me so late I had to ask for my money back. I hope they read these reviews and improve their service.

Not sure why is all that, maybe luck.

    Provided by

After read about the write ups on other web site, went Smell, Saw the smoke from 5 of their outdoor smoker and notice the line and got very excited. Meat was so dark and it did taste burned. Got the Dinner Sampler (bigger than Lunch Sampler) consist of dry chicken, decent spicy susage that has a texture of a meatloaf, ok beef ribs. Also tried the better Tri-tip and hard/dry/burn rib tips. Cold meat splap on a real sweet sauce. Corn bread, green, bean are a ok. A good variety on menu with decent price is the food was done right. I liked the outdoor BBQ atomsphere. I was disapointed that overall it has a burn grease smell than a charcoal/ hickory. We might try sandwich or the 1lb burger maybe is better. Not sure why is all that.

    Amazing burgers!

    Provided by

Nothing new to say here.. read through the other reviews first, and I completely concur with these being the biggest, best burgers in Los Angeles! I also agree that the wait time is outrageous, but it is definitely worth it, and you can call in your order before you come if you can't deal with the wait. I immediately added their number to my cell phone! Everyone should try this joint at least once in their life.. I plan to go back again and try the tri-tip!

    Good Ol' BBQ

    Provided by

This is good old style BBQ. The stuff you use to go miles for. And I will keep going Miles for this BBq. The place ain't much...in fact it is less then attractive..but the food more then makes up for it. And if you get within a mile of the place you can smell those smokers going. So just follow the scent of smoked BBQ...to some really good old fashioned southern BBQ.

    GOOD BBQ, EVEN BETTER BURGERS!

    Provided by

This place has some really good BBQ. Unfortunately, there just isnt much food. Unless you order the Hamburgers. THe hamburgers are freakin huge. We ordered the rib tips and the rib plate. The rib plate is 2 ribs. no kidding. for 10 bux, 2 ribs.... whats going on? in all fairness, the ribs have a decent amount of meat, but still 2 ribs... the sauce however, is amazing. the bbq is really good. The best value is the burger. Oh, be prepared to wait a little bit for the food to come out.

    Best in LA Highly recommended

    Provided by

I'm really surprised at some of the negative reviews. I've been eating the pork ribs and sliced pork sandwich there for at least five years and never had a bad meal. The sides are awesome too! BBQ King catered our company summer BBQ and everyone (about 100 people) raved about it. When I'm heading downtown from Burbank we always stop and eat or at least buy the sauce. The banana pudding with vanilla wafers is very tasty too. Hey the place ain't pretty to look at but I think it the best I've tasted since we moved here from San Francisco.

    Bad Day?

    Provided by

Went there on a Sunday morning, had to apologize to my guest for taking her to the worst barbeque we had ever tasted...very disappointing...had the ribs and the combo plate, must have been the day before left overs...guess we should have tried the burger...
