If you are local or traveling to the area, you should avoid this hotel.
They are very deceptive with their pricing, they advertise great rates, but leave a parking fee of $12 in the fine print. They also make everyone that checks in leave a $100 deposit which they automatically deduct your parking fees from (even though they deny owning the parking area, hmm ?). They do not even have this $100 deposit listed on their website.
When I was there one day, this guy apparently with housekeeping, knocked on my room door, and entered without my permission. I was there that time, but no telling if he also entered when I was not there, because I notice a couple of possessions missing.
The housekeeping crew also rushes you to leave early before your checkout. They keep tossing hints at you to try to get you to leave.
Most of the front dest crew are rude, do not care, and that also goes for the management of the hotel as well. So just a suggestion to those looking for a Hotel in the area, you should not use this place !!!!!

I've never stayed in this hotel but I do live in this neighborhood. No, it's not the best part of town and it's not where I would stay on a vacation BUT it's not as dangerous as people make it out to be.
Yes, there are homeless people but guess what, there are 480,000 homeless people in LA so you're going to see them even in Beverly Hills.
I have lived in this neighborhood for three years and my daughter and I often walk this route at night going to and from downtown. I often make midnight runs to McDonald's or to put a letter in the PO Box and never once have we ever been mugged, accosted or in any way threatened.
So take it from a resident instead of someone who arrived with a glorified idea of LA, it's not that dangerous and LA is only bright and shiny in the movies.

Staying at the Mayfair Hotel in Los Angeles is an absolute living nightmare. I would hardly wish such an experience upon my worst enemy (if I had one). I strongly advise everyone who values his/her peace of mind, comfort, and safety to heed the following advice: ?If you have a brain in your head, do not stay at this hotel. Spend twenty dollars more, and stay at a more reliable, higher quality, and professionally managed hotel. Else, I pity the poor, unfortunate souls who ignore my warning. Seriously, it is like something straight out of a Twilight Zone horror episode.? On October 28, 2010, an arsonist set fire to the hotel ballroom sometime after midnight. That room was not in use at the time. However, one of its entrances left opened; therefore, anyone could enter unnoticed, and cause havoc. Even one of their regular security guards specifically stated that he had repeatedly informed the hotel personnel about that habitual problem, but nothing was done to correct it. Then, four days later, another fire was set in the vicinity of that same empty ballroom. The consensus seems to be these were the acts of a deranged psychopath currently staying there. The hotel management did not even care enough about the occupants to deliver official notices, concerning the fires, to the guests and tenants. Such notices might have alleviated the fears and addressed the concerns of many people. Management should have explained the circumstances of the fire, as well as indicated what additional security and safety measures were being undertaken. I do realize that management necessarily had to prioritize actions in the aftermath of the very first fire. Notwithstanding such considerations, how long does it take to draft a half page notice? However, not even after the second fire were there any official notifications! Currently, the hotel is in shambles and disarray. Cleanup equipment and portable ventilation equipment is everywhere. Carpeting has been removed from certain common areas. Wallpaper is peeling off. A lot of the walls have been gutted; you see exposed particle board, plumbing, and plastic sheathing. There is extensive water and smoke damage. It smells awful, especially the carpets. On November 2, 2010, a little after midnight, some crazy fool actually threw a television set out of a tenth-floor window! This window faced the main street; it is a wonder that no one was killed. As it turns out, that individual had gained entry to an unoccupied, guest room because its door had been left open by maintenance crews; they had been renovating that room. What is even more surprising is that there was no window lock or other mechanism to prevent someone from opening the window all the way. (Go figure!) Aside from all of that misery, the rooms are utterly deplorable. They are ever so small. The furniture is worse than Goodwill quality. The bathrooms are extremely tiny. There are bedbugs and cockroaches. Many guests and residents generally complain about the lack of professionalism and concern of the hotel personnel. Also, I think that as many as 40% of the hotel?s occupants are permanent residents. So, it is certainly not your typical hotel. And, if that is not bad enough, the neighborhood is a ghetto. Apparently, many of the bad conditions have been existence for a very long time. Well, this is one situation where apologies and promises just aren?t enough. It takes more than public relations statements; the Mayfair Hotel definitely needs a complete remodeling and re-staffing?period!

The hotel was built during the Roaring Twenties and still reflects the grandeur of the era with glass etchings, brass fixtures, skylights and frieze pillars that adorn the lobby atrium. The hotel combines a sense of old world elegance with a time honored tradition.
The Historic Mayfair Hotel is few blocks from the Los Angeles Convention Center, Staples Center and Nokia Theatre, while the Business & Financial Center, City of Los Angeles & County Offices, LA County Courthouse, Government Offices, Fashion District, Little Tokyo, China Town, Walt Disney Concert Hall are within two miles radius.

The only nice thing about the hotel was the lobby; it is very spacious, with high ceilings. But, the service and the rooms are really abysmal and atrocious. The workers are apathetic. The rooms vary tremendously in size and quality. You might get a clean, neat, and sparsely furnished/decorated room, or one that is very dingy, shoddy and dismal looking. The furniture looks several decades old. The mattresses are extremely uncomfortable. Too often, the showers expectantly become either scalding hot or freezing cold, due to faulty water pressure. For the room, there really is only primitive climate control. The hotel centrally provides EITHER heat OR water-cooled ""a/c."" And even that system is only functional during certain months of the year; otherwise, you get only a fan blowing stale air. So, you will probably not get the comfort of heat or a/c that you really expect or need. You will most certainly share your room with bedbugs and cockroaches! When you first enter your room, you will definitely notice the disgusting smell of mold and mildew. The bathrooms are very, very tiny; my closets at home are larger. The area is close to downtown L.A., but it is a very SCARY and DANGEROUS neighborhood. There are many criminal types and homeless folks lurking about that hotel; so, be extra careful and vigilant?especially after dark! so i moved to L.A. and after trying a bunch of places i decided to take a chance on the Mayfair Hotel...and was I very happy that I did..the rooms are clean..the location is excellent..the staff is excellent...AND WOW THE PRICE IS VERY GOOD...I don't think you can beat this hotel for the price and location..hey this is L.A. ....does not matter where you live..it's a wild city...and the area around the hotel might look unsafe..BUT IS IS VERY SAFE...there is a nice laundry next door ...and you get to meet the locals there..as you do with the nice folks who sell fruit from their trucks parked on the street...all in all it will be fun staying at the Mayfair hotel...if you complain..about the place it is because you are too lazy to really check it out.. it's not the Hotel..it's YOU...!!!
