The Los Angeles County Fire Department has a rich and unique history that is full of improvement and accomplishments. From being one of the first dire departments to design the 911 system in the 1970s to its modern homeland security sections, the fire department is a leader and a model to fire departments throughout the world. Along with its history, the personnel take pride in not only the organization, but also in the areas in which it serves. The station s Battalion logos are unofficial patches that incorporate some of the landmarks, backgrounds and cultures of the more than 2,200 square miles the fire department serves in the county. Departments within the organization include air and wild land, emergency medical services, fire prevention, forestry, health, hazardous materials, the Los Angeles County Certified Unified Program Agency, lifeguards, special operations and hometown fire stations. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has a location in Los Angeles.
